  • Great Show

I love this show! To bad it never comes on tv anymore.
  • A nice start

    8.5
This is a great episode in my opinion, The episode Downtown as fruits is about Arnold and Gerald plan on skipping Helga's play and decide to explore the city a bit. It was a funny episode and I really enjoyed it. The next episode is Eugene's Bike which is an episode where Eugene gets a new bike, and by accidentally brakes Eugene's bike and decides to make it up for Eugene by hanging out with him for the day. I think this episode is really good since we get a good back story about how Eugene always had bad luck with Arnold. So with the plots being said I give Downtown Fruits an 8.5 out of 10 and I give Eugene's Bike an 8.2 out of 10. Personally I think these episodes are very well written and the first episodes gave us a good idea about Arnold and Gerald but also Eugene as well despite the fact that his first appearance is the second segment of the first episode. With all of this being said this is a great episode and gives us a good idea of the characters in this show. Since we learn about other characters other than Arnold, Gerald, and Eugene in this episode but they are not as significant as those three are in this episode.

  • Downtown as Fruits was perfect/hilarious, but Eugene's Bike was kinda a bit dragged, but still enjoyed.

    9.0
Downtown as Fruits:Not looking forward to performing in Helga's "The Four Food Groups" musical, Arnold and Gerald decide to take the bus a few stops too many, but end up stuck downtown. I though this episode was perfect. The beginning was hilarious when Arnold was imagining surfing. Arnold and Gerald being dressed as fruits was funny. Helga yelling Arnold's name and Anrold asks "Did you hear something just now" was funny as well. Helgarepeatedly saying "I love you, I hate you" was funny. Curly asking Do vegetables have souls? made me LOL so hard.Helga crying about her play and then hitting herself was hilarious. Overall, a perfect first episode of Hey Anrold. 10/10

Eugene's Bike:When Arnold accidentally ruins Eugene's new bike, he takes Eugene out on a day of fun, thinking that "every geek deserves his day." I thought it was great episode of Hey Arnold! OMG, the beginning was very hilarious. Just like "Downtown as Fruits", Arnold imagines himself. The girls' part at the beginning was hilarious. Arnold dropping the bikes was funny. The flashbacks were very funny especially the "Mr. Crab" part. The only thing that lowers my score is that some scenes were boring. Overall, this episode was great, but not as perfect as "Downtown as Fruits". 8/10moreless
  • a great pilot ep

    10
This episode I would have to say was a great first episode and is a great start to the series in many ways. The episode was funny because Arnold and Gerald are going to a school play, they are dressed up as fruits, both decide not to go, they get stuck downtown trying to get back to the school for to participate in the play and they do many things. Arnold is dressed as a banana and also Gerald is dressed as a cherry or a strawberry.

The other episode it was about Eugene's bike, it was funny and it made a good start to the series of a great episode.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (13)

    • Ever notice that there's something strange about Helga but you just can't pinpoint it? Could it be that Helga has only one, huge, eyebrow?

For that matter, Helga, Harold (who also has just one), Stinky (whose are well above his eyes), and Gerald seem to be the only kids that have any eyebrows (although Rhonda's hair may hide hers - Sid removes his hat in "Heat", and Iggy removes his glasses in "Downtown As Fruits", and neither has eyebrows)

    • Arnold dresses up in a banana suit and Gerald dresses up in a strawberry suit in this episode.

    • Look Hard: In "Eugene's Bike," Eugene's license plate says "YOOJ."

    • The name of the pool hall that Arnold and Gerald go to is called, Ernie's Pool Hall.

    • In the teeter-totter scene, Gerald's shirt is number 3 instead of 33.

    • Look Closely: At the beginning, Iggy can be seen without his sunglasses.

    • The characters in this show have only 3 finger's and a thumb. Unlike, the characters in say Doug or Rugrats.

    • To comment about Arnold and Eugene couldn't have had classes together since pre-school. Sure he could! I've had classes with a few of the same kids since 4th grade (that's when I moved). It's not uncommon for that to happen.

    • At the crosswalk, the white man flashes to warn pedestrians that the light is about to go back to the hand. Later episodes have the hand flash after the "walk" part, like real pedestrian traffic lights do.

    • When Arnold has to tie his shoe, he sets his books down on a bike in a bike rack. This causes the bike to tip over and makes all the other bikes in the rack to fall down. Eugene's bike falls into the middle of the street and get ran over. When Eugene finds out his bike is destroyed, he looks at Arnold and yells. Right after this, we get a good look at the bike rack. Notice that there are no bikes in or around the bike rack.

    • When Gerald is yelling at Arnold to come on, his mouth doesn't move.

    • Eugene said he got his bike on Flag Day, which is impossible because Flag Day is past the first day of school, and because it is a national holiday.

    • Eugene says he almost caught a "Studs McGee" ball, but both the video board and the baseball card says "Spuds McGee."

    • This was the first of three instances where a child saved someone's life by seeing the Heimlich maneuver performed in the episode "Eugene's Bike."
