    • TRIVIA (3)

      ADD TRIVIA
      • Why does Arnold and his class go to the opera with Ruth's class and Mr. Packenham? Moreover, Mr. Packenham seems to be Arnold's teacher instead of Mrs. Slovak, who does not appear in this episode.

      • When Eugene sets off the fire alarm, Principal Wartz silences the alarm by pushing the lever on the fire alarm pull station back up. In real life, you need to insert a special key into the fire alarm station to reset the lever, then silence and reset the fire alarm system via the main control panel.

      • This episode airs after "Valentine's Day," yet Arnold still likes Ruth.

    • QUOTES (5)

      ADD QUOTES
      • Stinky: She's like a flower blossom. Sid: I know, she's wicked awesome.

      • (after Helga dresses as Ruth) Arnold: Ruth? Helga: Ruth? Pft! (sings) Just like I stated, she's overrated. A big no-brainer with enormous feet. Why not forget her? I'm so much better. My name's Comte Helga and I'm awfully sweet. Others: (sing) She's awfully sweet, such tiny feet. Her name's Comte Helga and you two should meet. Helga: Come join my band of gypsies. Gypsies: We're touring fifty cities! Helga: (sings) With you, my Gypsy band will be complete! (dances with Arnold) Perfect! What could possibly be better than this?

      • Helga: Ruth is a lightweight, a gagiling geek bait! I'm gonna get her, that's what I said! Ruth is a loser! How could you choose her, football head?! Others: Football head! Football head! Helga: I'm gonna stomp her right on the head! Arnold: Oh, yeah? How? Helga: With my golden magic slingshot! Sid: Golden magic slingshot? Stinky: Golden magic slingshot? Gerald: I thought it was a spear and a magic helmet. Helga: No, with my golden magic slingshot! Doy!

      • Ruth: (Singing) My name is Ruth Carmen, but aren't I charmin'?

      • Don Arnold: My name is Don Arnold. Please have a caramel. Your hair is lovely. Do you like my pants? My cape of satin, it is pure Latin, and I had it tailored in the south of France. Others: The south of France, do you like his pants? Why don't you ask the lady for a dance?

    • NOTES (3)

      ADD NOTES
      • Because of Arnold's small-scale relationship with Lila, this is the last appearance of Ruth. Ruth used to be Arnold's love interest until Lila came in (though Arnold doesn't "like-like" Lila).

      • When the 4th graders are listening to Mr. Packenham talk about the operas Ruth is standing next to Arnold.

      • In "What's Opera, Arnold?", Toran Caudell (the old Arnold's voice) does the singing.

    • ALLUSIONS (2)

      ADD ALLUSIONS
      • Episode Title: What's Opera, Arnold? The title "What's Opera, Arnold?" and when Helga mentions her "spear and magic helmet" are references to the Bugs Bunny cartoon entitled "What's Opera, Doc?".

      • Little Kid: I go to bed at 8:30, right after my favorite show, Yo Arnest! Yo Arnest! is a self-parody referenced to Hey Arnold!.
