In this episode, Helga tells Lila that she loves Arnold. However, for the rest of the series, Lila seems to have completely forgotten this, even when Helga tried to act and dress like her.
In this episode, the "Romeo and Juliet" play ends right after Juliet (Helga) dies. In reality, the play has some more dialogue from other characters after Juliet's death, before closing out with the phrase "there never was a story more of woe, than this of Juliet, and her Romeo." Reply: That part was cut for time.
"School Play" can be found on the DVD "Nicktoons : The Show Must Go On," available in The UK (Region 2 PAL format) and Australia (Region 4 PAL Format).
Notice the terrible dress that Helga tries to make Rhonda wear to scare Rhonda out of being Juliet? How did Sheena ever fix that?
Lila's whole collar is gold throughout the episode, instead of just that one little piece as usual.
In this episode, the balcony scene is shown after Tybalt kills Mercutio. In the actual play, the balcony scene comes first.
While doing the play, Helga and Arnold's kiss comes at the end, though everyone acts like it's the only kiss they got. In truth, Romeo & Juliet share a scripted kiss much earlier in the play (these are the only two in the script, but many performers throw in extra kisses during other major parts of the play).
Mr. Hyunh: Why can't you act like a normal person? Oskar: Me? What about you? You're wearing a dress!
Mr. Hyunh: (to Arnold) Now I believe you should be Romeo. And I will be Juliette!
Helga: (acting) Go get the hands, for I will not away... Sid: (also acting) Okey-dokey!
Helga: (Mutters quietly) I like Arnold. Lila: Pardon? I couldn't hear you. Helga: (Mutters slightly louder, but faster) I like Arnold. Lila: I'm sorry, Helga, you're mumbling. Helga: (Practically screams to her face) I LIKE ARNOLD. (Pants) I'm head over heels, loop-de-loo, over the moon. I'm in love with the boy!. (Pants) Happy now? Happy? Lila: (Stares at her, then smiles cooly) I kinda had a feeling you liked him.
Helga: (Trying to scare Sheena) You know about the dn, right? She's in a crypt, you know, a mausoleum, full of dead rotting corpses and bats. (Getting steadily creepier) And then she takes this big, sharp, rusty dagger... and she holds it up high over her head... and then (Feigns stabbing herself and gasping in pain) Oh, it's great. Real bloody, violent stuff.
In one sceen, Lila looks a lot like Evil Alice from the PC game, American McGees Alice.
Helga confesses loving Arnold to Lila in this episode.
Helga finally kisses Arnold, and this is the first half-hour non-holiday episode.
In the real play of "Romeo and Juliet," Romeo and Juliet kiss more than once. Also, the play is not all that suitable for kids. It has a bit of sexual references in it.
First episode to feature the new opening theme.
School: Play William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" is an actual, very famous and historical play by what most consider to be the best playwright of the English language. Actual lines in the play are used in this episode, and has a special credit during the closing credits reading "Special Thanks to William Shakespeare."
