Despite the fact that nobody believes Arnold will succeed, he continues to try to get Torvald to make the effort, much to Torvald's dismay. I liked/laughed at Arnold learning about to 9 x 8, Arnold teaching Torvald how to do math, montage of Torvald at jobs, Torvald already knowing math, and then he passed with a C. Overall, not the best episode, but it was great. 8.5/10

This episode was better than the previous one. I liked the storyline of Gerald visiting Arnold's place. I liked/laughed at boogers as milk coming out of Gerald's nose, Gerald kept wasting electry, Grandma trying to catch the fly, Arnold paying the rent (there's some chicken noises), Arnold and Gerald doing the chores, and everyone fighting until Arnold rang the gong. Overall score 10/10moreless
  • Great episode.

    9.5
This episode was very good because it introduced a new character called Torvald and that apparently he was left back some years. I think this episode was very good and it was funny when Torvald thought that math was business and that's why he was bad in the class and the way he was playing darts and with a photo of the teacher in which was funny when he did that and the way he got a C was very good and a great thing to had happened. Also the other episode was good but "Tutoring Torvald" was for me a little better.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (11)

    • In "Gerald Come Over," we learn that there are two other characters who live in the boarding house: Mr. Smith (who is the main character of an episode) and Mr. Purdy (whose voice is only heard).

    • At the end of "Gerald Comes Over", Arnold appears to be missing his hat.

    • In Ernie's apartment, the bricks next to Gerald change names and numbers in a close-up of Gerald in one scene.

    • When Torvald is a stockbroker in a fantasy, the people behind him change up in a close-up. Also, after he makes a mistake when he presses the minus button, there's a guy with no lower body in one of the after scenes.

    • In "Tutoring Torvald", when Torvald shoots an arrow at a picture of Ms. Slovak it's pink, but in the next shot it's yellow and then it's pink again.

    • Technically, the layout of the boarding house does not make sense in this episode. In most episodes, there are 2 floors with one long upstairs hallway and Arnold's attic door at the end. When Arnold and Gerald go to Oskar and Susie's room, it looks like there is a third floor. Is there one? Because their door is at the top of a different flight of steps than the one that comes from the entrance.

    • Response to captioning goof: It originally DID say that word, but they edited the episode. I remember discovering that change. They changed it in like 2003 or something.

    • When Gerald is talking to Arnold at recess, look behind them, you can see Brainy sitting by himself. A few seconds later, the camera will move further away and you can see Torvold holding Brainy in the air.

    • Closed Captioning Error: In "Gerald Comes Over," when Suzie says, "I could have just married Steven Seeno, he was an orthodontist!" The Closed Captions say, "I could have just married an orthodontist!"

    • Arnold goes downstairs to get out of Torvald's house because Torvald's being an idiot when Arnold is tutoring him. A couple of scenes later Torvald says "Some people think some kids are bad 'cause they stink at everything". If you turn on closed captioning, everything is the same except when Torvald says 'stink' the captioning says 'suck' and that's a naughty word for a 13-year old 4th grader.

    • In "Tutoring Torvald," when Arnold goes downstairs and looks at the paper that Torvald got a C on, he says, "The best thing he ever got was a lousy C-." Earlier in the episode, Torvald's Mom shows Arnold the paper and says, "And look, he even got a C."
