Dr Brady is tricked into helping a woman he finds at a car accident site. Lured by the woman back to her home he encounters a wealthy man who has been left horribly disfigured by an accident. The man begs for Brady's assistance to make him invisible to ease his pain over his scars. At first reluctant, Brady later consents and agrees to begin experimenting. However, the picture is not always as it seems and he is soon caught in a web of lies that threatens to destroy the life of a notable politician.

Sally: Why do you keep on shaving?
Peter: Why does any man shave? To keep his face feeling clean.
Sally: It's a waste of time when it doesn't show.
Sally: Why don't you use a man?
Peter: Well, that would be taking too much of a risk. Besides, I can't imagine getting any volunteers.
Sally: I'd volunteer. I'd love to be invisible.
Peter: Not if I know it. One freak in the family is enough.
Constantine: All my life I've lived for beauty. Surrounded myself with lovely things. I've hated ugliness, tried to lock it out. But now I'm engulfed in an abyssal obscenity of ugliness from which I cannot day or night for one moment escape.
