Hi-de-Hi!

Show Summary

A long-running British series drawn from the real-life experiences of writers Jimmy Perry and David Croft tells us the story of a group of people at a British holiday camp titled Maplin's, set around the 1950s. The show starts when the entertainers return to the camp for the 1959 holiday season and find out that their camp has been sold to Jeffrey Fairbrother, an academic, who is a total opposite of them. The entertainers include a wisecracking Ted Bovis; a senior Yellowcoat named Gladys Pugh; Ted's understudy Spike; a child-hater Mr. Partridge; dance instructor Barry Stuart-Hargreaves and his wife Yvonne and may other. As the time goes by, sparks fly between characters, the stories get complicated and it's all combined in an intersting and funny 30-minute episode.

  • I absoloutely love this show! Best comedy ever!

    8.8
Hi-de-hi is one of my favourite comedies of all time! It can be hilariously funny one minute and very moving and touching the next. The writers can be described as nothing short of genius. They wrote a multitude of clever and witty episodes that reflect the lives of holiday camp residents and employess perfectly.

The actors are all perfect for their roles. Particularly the brilliant Su Pollard who made her portrayal as the lovable Peggy seem effortless. Peggy is one of the funniest comedy characters ever created. The last episode of Hi-de-hi is the most moving with Peggy finally achieving her life long aim of becoming a yellow coat! And she deserved it!
