An average entry at best. It's eerie to witness someone on the back road dumping a plastic bag with a puppy inside. Leslie is missing from the whole episode, and Suzanne just from the overnight camping trip. Why ? No explanation was ever given.
Eddie is a smaller kid from camp who wants Leo to mentor him in tennis. With an upcoming championship, Leo doesn't have the time, but will do so provided Eddie trains and eats as directed.
The comparison is that neither the puppy, nor Eddie, cares to eat very much. "Scruffy" won't eat the scraps the kids save for it, and Eddie regularly skips out on breakfast.
The kids finally tell Sharon about the dog, and the vet provides kibbles and later finds a home for the dog, thus avoiding the pound.
When Leo's regular partner gets hurt in the championship game, Leo must substitute Eddie to finish with him. Eddie, who was a prior sloppy mess of chocolate stains and mussed up hair, comes in as a clean act and hits the volley that wins the game. It is doubly satisfying as it comes against Huey and his partner, who made fun of Eddie before, calling him "runty".
You could smell it a mile away that Eddie was going to come in and be the winning factor. I guess the kicker is that an even younger kid, looks up to Eddie after the game and wants Eddie to be HIS mentor, now. Not bad an episode, but not GREAT great.moreless
