Can someone explain the 'straddle' to me? It seems to be like a super blind.

    Thanks

You've probably looked it up for yourself by now but anyway...

A "super blind"... That's basically it. A extra bet equal to 2 times the big blind. The player announces before a hand that he is "putting on the straddle" he also gets have a say pre flop (he can check or raise when action gets back to him).

By using the straddle you are also buying position, because you get to act last preflop, and have the option to check or raise. It is important to note that this is a "live" straddle. Every player has to agree to this for it to be "live", meaning it's a 3rd blind. If the live straddle is not agreed to, a player can straddle, but then they are just calling or raising blind and they don't have the option it check or raise. The reason why players like the live straddle because it makes the game much more loose and makes tighter players play more hands, building the pots much higher then normal.
