  • Valentine Pelka

    Kronos

    10
Assembled from Paramount Television's "Queen of Swords" Cast Biography Page for Mr. Pelka, Mr. Pelka's Fan Club, recent news, and personal interviews with Taram1: "Valentine Pelka is an alumnus of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, where, in addition to his stage training, he received stage combat instruction under the direction of John Waller. While at the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company, the Dewsbury, West Yorkshire native played leading roles in "Romeo and Juliet" and "A Woman Killed with Kindness," as well as performed a one-man show entitled "Maud." A familiar figure on British stage and screen, he has appeared in "Nanou," "If Tomorrow Comes," "Hold the Dream" and "Good King Wenceslas." Mr. Pelka's film credits have seen him appearing with Albert Finney in "John-Paul II," with Jason Robards and Glenda Jackson in "Sakharov," with Sir Alec Guiness in Graham Greene's "Monsignor Quixote," opposite Hugh Grant in the award-winning "Rowing with the Wind" and with Richard Gere in "King David." He had a memorable turn as Sir Patrise in "First Knight" with Sean Connery, and appeared with Parker Posey in the indie "What Rats Won't Do." Prior to starring in the "Queen of Swords" syndicated television series with Tessie Santiago and Peter Wingfield, Mr. Pelka appeared in "The Last of the Blonde Bombshells," alongside Sir Ian Holm and Dame Judi Dench. His notable British television appearances include "Peak Practice," "Mortimer's Law," "Brother Cadfael," "Campion" and "Robin of Sherwood." He played Maurice de Bracy in A&E's "Ivanhoe," as well as had recurring roles as the wildly popular Kronos on "Highlander: The Series," as Korda on "Highlander: The Raven" and on "Life Force." On "Queen of Swords," Mr. Pelka played Colonel Luis Montoya, a military governor who ruled with an iron fist, abusing his power and taxing his subjects to the point of starvation. The Machiavellian tyrant was a believer in executions without trials, enslaving peasants, blackmailing even his best men, and was the Queen of Swords' primary enemy. On May 26th, 2002, "The Pianist," Mr. Pelka's most recent work at the time of this writing and a film directed by Roman Polanski, received the coveted Palme d'Or at this year's 55th annual Cannes Film Festival. The film is the true story of how Polish pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman avoided being sent to the Nazi concentration camps, living and hiding in the Warsaw ghetto from 1939-1945. Mr. Pelka portrayed "Michal" in the film. A creative force, Mr. Pelka also draws and paints, hoping to show his work publicly in the near future. A lover of 19th century literature, the actor has a degree in Humanities and speaks French, Italian and some Spanish. Husband and father to a son, Pelka is a student of Aikido since 1993, a proficient horseman and an enthusiastic and life-long supporter of the Leeds United Soccer Team." Mr. Pelka is brother to actress Kazia Pelka and celebrates his birthday in February. Valentine is also active on the stage. Most recently he has played the title role of John Lennon in the play "And in the End: The Death and Life of John Lennon" by Alexander Marshall. The play first appeared in Scotland in 2004 and in Australia in 2006. Mr. Pelka was the last actor interviewed for the part and was cast because of his uncanny ability to mimic Lennon's mannerisms as identified by members of Lennon's original band, The Quarrymen. Valentine is able to distinguish the various accents John Lennon developed throughout his lifetime as the singing sensation grew in popularity and moved throughout the world. Mr. Pelka does not sing in his role as John Lennon since that is not a requirement of his part in the show. Mr. Pelka is married and has one son. 1/16/2007moreless
  • Roger Daltrey

    Hugh Fitzcairn

    9.5
Roger Daltrey is noted as the founder of the legendary rock band The Who. After leaving London's Acton County Grammar School in 1963, he formed a skiffle band called the Detours, and then displayed an early genius by putting together unusual elements into a world-class performing act. The unusual elements included Daltrey on vocals, John Entwistle on bass, and Pete Townshend on lead guitar. In 1965 they added drummer Keith Moon, and the fabulous line-up was complete. The band was quickly remarkable for the synthesis of personalities: Townshend's art school sensibilities, Daltrey's down-to-earth interpretation, and Entwistle and Moon's skill as performers. They were first noted for deafening shows and for smashing their instruments in ferocious displays of auto-destructive art, but they went on to considerable chart success through original songs written by Pete Townshend and the more humor-oriented John Entwistle. Townshend wrote the first mini-rock opera for their second album, and after their first tour of America, the band presented the full-length rock opus Tommy, which shattered barriers and established The Who as a major artistic force in the world of music. Daltrey released his first solo album in 1973, and followed that up with a number of solo chart successes. He also established a stage and (somewhat off-beat) film career after starring in the movie production of Tommy (1975). He pursued films more steadily during the years after the death of drummer Keith Moon, and turned to production with the drama McVicar (1980). The band continued to perform sporadically with different drummers and John "Rabbit" Bundrick on keyboard, but returned to full force in the nineties with the addition of Zak Starkey on drums. Though Townshend is noted as the songwriter and lead guitarist of The Who, Daltrey remains the genius that drives their performances. His energy and stage presence established The Who at the monumental Monterey Pop, Woodstock and Isle of Wight music festivals, and his instincts for production carved their path through the era of stadium rock. The filmography of musical performances stand as the best evidence of Daltrey's brilliance as both a musician and a stage performer.moreless

"Okay, Boys, gimme some room-- Momma's gonna have herself some fun!" Musetta said, playing the infamous Lash in the sci-fi classic "Oblivion"; and indeed, Musetta always seems to be having fun when she is acting.

As a native South African Musetta was raised without television, trips to the drive-in introduced her to the world of movies.

Musetta began her career as a professional dancer. After completing a BA in Communications and Psychology, she landed herself the plum job as anchor host for an MTV-like television show called Telemusik in her native South Africa. Although this was her first show as on-camera hostess, her early childhood was filled with both on- and off-camera performances in theater and television. Being the daughter of a ballet teacher/opera singing mother, her first appearance on stage was at age 4 in one of the many shows her mother choreographed.

Musetta is a qualified ballet teacher herself. After being spotted on-camera by future husband (director Jeff Celentano) during a visit to South Africa, she ended up exactly where she had always dreamed of being- Hollywood. She and Celetano married in 1988, and shortly after her arrival in the US she became part of the very world she used to host, except this time as the desirable girl in various music videos for artists including Rod Stewart, Tina Turner, Elton John and Chris Isaak to name but a few.

Altogether she has graced 21 music videos for top artists. The transition to the big screen shortly followed and in her first feature she played a Russian scientist opposite Bill Paxton, Lou Gossett Jr. and John Hurt. Numerous other projects followed. Among her most memorable roles were the humorless weapons expert "Munitia" in Warner Brothers "Wild Wild West" (1999), Ella Baines, the mother of the comatose boy in New Line Cinema's dark thriller "The Cell" (2000), and as the seductive Siren in the smash hit from the Coen Brothers "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" (2000).

Musetta also added a few television credits to her list, including guest appearances in Stargate Sg-1, Frasier and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

She can currently be seen playing legendary Robert Duvall's wife Janice, in Will Ferrell's summer comedy Kicking & Screaming.moreless

He moved to Los Angeles and struggled for some time, not being able to get any TV jobs, until he landed the role as Oliver Sampson in the science fiction series VR5.
