  • Richie tries to help a mentally handicapped Immortal, Mickey. Is there anyway that Richie and Duncan can do to make him understand that he is an Immortal?

    7.8
After saving a mentally handicapped Immortal Richie is left with the dilemma of what to do with him. Richie feels responsible for Mickey and is unwilling to simply abandon him. Both MacLeod and Richie struggle with how to best keep him safe. This reminds MacLeod of a time he tried to save an American Indian who he came across being beaten by the man who owned him as his slave. Mac tried his best but the ignorance of the people in the town ended up being Chaske’s undoing. In Mickey’s case his diminished mental capacity makes him unable to understand what it means to be an Immortal, he ends up hurting the people who are trying to protect him. Ultimately Richie must do the right thing even though he knows that it will haunt him for a long time. The Innocent was a good episode not a great one. It made me think about the way the mentally handicapped people are treated in the US and I’ll take an episode that makes me think any day.moreless
