  • This is the only Highlander episode that includes none of the main characters. It was a pilot for a spinoff series. There are some similarities to the actual spinoff series Highlander: The Raven, although the main actors are never seen again.moreless

Nick and Kate are married and run an ill-defined security business that involves running around in leather and shooting and/or beating up bad guys. They have an odd sort of chemistry - Nick is a Chicago wise-guy and very tough, Kate's motivation for doing this is unclear (although the money is good), they love each other in spite of their differences.

The central issue between them is the Game. Nick doesn't see why Kate has to play the Game at all, of if she must, why she has to follow the Rules. In fairness, the whole Highlander franchise suffers from this basic unresolved problem. Anyway, the question is whether their star-crossed love can ever work, and how many bad guys are going to die before we find out.

Since this is a series pilot, the central question is never resolved. Some standard-issue bad guys get whacked, some good tough-guy tough-girl banter gets exchanged, and we are left thinking that this spinoff had at least as good a chance as the one they actually did, which failed after one season.moreless

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Kate: Look, I'm sorry I'm Immortal, Nick, there's nothing I can do about it.
      Nick: Now you're getting irrational.
Kate: Tell me it doesn't drive you crazy, that I can't die and you can.
Nick: I don't believe this! I mean, first you lie to me, and then when things don't work out you lay this on me.
Kate: Look, you knew what I was when we met. You know the Game, you know the Rules.
Nick: And you know me, Kate. Am I the type of guy whose going to sit on his ass and let you walk off and maybe get whacked? Tell me Kate, is that who you ever thought I was?
      Kate: No.
Nick: How the hell did we happen?
Kate: I didn't know we were going to happen. I didn't know I was going to fall in love with you. Nick, the part of my life that has to do with being Immortal has nothing to do with you. It can't.
Nick: Katherine, I'm either in your life, all of it, or I'm gone.

    • Nick: I say we get a line on the money first.
Kate: No, I don't want his money, I want his head.
Nick: That's very big of you. I wonder if that's what the kids want. You know, the one's he stealing from.
      Kate: I hate you.
Nick: That money could feed a lot of babies. But, if you want to kill him, kill him.
      Kate: I really hate you.

    • Nick: Who is he?
Kate: You don't need to know.
      Nick: Who is he, Kate?
      Kate: His name is Bartholomew.
Nick: Wait, let me guess. You've been searching for him for a zillion years and now that you've found him, you're gonna have to kill him. How am I doing here?
      Kate: Don't do that.
      Nick: What?
Kate: Piss on something you don't understand.

    • Kate: Have you ever heard of the Kama Sutra?
      Nick: Yeah, you read it?
Kate: Read it? I modeled for the drawings.

  • NOTES (4)

    • "Two of Hearts" is unique in that it is the only episode of the series that doesn't include any of the regular characters.

    • Duncan is mentioned but doesn't appear.

    • This episode has some elements of what eventually turned out to be the Highlander spinoff - there is a mortal husband named Nick who gets involved in Immortal affairs despite the female Immortal's objections.

    • The fourth of season six episodes intended to test the waters for a Highlander spinoff with a female Immortal - none of them panned out although arguably this had the best chance since it featured genre actress Claudia Christian, who was fairly high profile.
