  • Heavy on fantasy

You would think a TV series about angels would be heavy on fantasy. But Michael Landon prefers to focus on drama...with the exception of this episode.

On first sight, I was afraid this was going to be another of those silly Dickens ripoffs about three acquaintances of a deceased Vietnam pilot, Tim Charles Jr, who refuse to donate to a scholarship fund in his name. But I found the characters were quite original and handled well.

The first was a store worker who genuinely didn't feel obligated to a high school star athlete that he barely knew. The second was a businessman who remains bitter over the psychological damage done to his Vietnam vet son. The third was an elderly lady who basically pleads ignorance of the boy.

In true Dickens style, dream sequences are used to remind the three how much their lives were affected by Tim. In the end, an entire group of acquaintances recognize the significance of Tim in their lives. The ending was a little silly, but overall it worked.

Prolific child actor Moosie Drier ("Kids Incorporated"), now grown up, appears as Tim Charles, Jr.moreless
