  • Gruesome coincidence

    7.0
This episode may be seen as the finale of a long story line about the elections and the shooting of a small boy, but it is the roll call scene that makes it one to remember. Was it in incredibly bad taste, or just a gruesome coincidence? Two day before the episode aired Michael Conrad (Sgt Esterhaus) died after a long illness. (This fact was mentioned on the night of the first airing, but has been left out Some viewers might have missed the news and only learned about the tragedy as they sat down to their favourite show. What does Esterhau do during the roll call? He mentions that some graveyard plots have become available for police officers by means of a blind auction. The writers must have known Conrad was in a bad state at the time of shooting? He looked pretty gaunt. Was it impossible for the producers to cut some bits out of the roll call? After all, the story about the graves only leads to a few short dialogue scenes.moreless
