  • 'Tis the season for crime, guilt, and loneliness

    8.5
The station is abuzz with the excitement of Christmas, while each officer deals with his own private world of combat. Washington is haunted by intense guilt as he reflects on his accidental killing of an innocent man three months prior, and Hill gets an unwelcome visit from an absentee father. Furillo comforts a depressed Fay, who is relinquishing their child to him for the holiday but remembering happier times when the three were together as a family. Howard is nervous to meet his Jewish girlfriend's parents, and Lucy winds up in intensive care on Christmas Eve.

The drama in this episode is good, but the humor - including the slapstick involving the officers pursuing perps in their reindeer costumes after appearing at a children's benefit - is great. Perhaps most hilarious is Mick Belker dressed as Santa and a little kid telling him he's too ugly to portray jolly old St. Nick, contrasted with the final scene fading out as he comes home to a lonesome place and tries to find some cheer amidst the solitude of his apartment.moreless
