The episode opens with Mia (Sevigny) executing a "hit" on a man in a remote parking lot. When she returns home and showers, much is revealed to the audience...she used to be a man. Mia is a transgendered hit woman. Later, she meets with her handler or boss and he is impressed with her as always. Then she receives a letter which has been obviously forwarded from one former address to another. The letter reveals that her (his) former wife (Wendy) is dying of cancer and to her surprise, she has an 11 year old son. She decides to look her up. She finds Wendy too late - she has already passed away and has left behind 3 other children in addition to her own son Ryan. The household is being maniacally run by the oldest teen daughter, Riley. She clearly resents the presence of her late mother's former husband and does what she can to make Mia feel unwelcome. Ryan sleeps in a tent in the back yard since the death of his mother. We follow Mia as she visits the local pub where she is hit on by a local creep but decides to stick it out and try to fit in as the guardian for the children. She needs to keep her work hidden, but needs to make a living while making an earnest attempt to support her inherited family. Sevingny is impressive as always and inhabits this role with great aplomb. As Mia goes about her business we learn that Ryan is being bullied in school, Riley is having sex with a much older man, Levi could be gay and the youngest daughter has some sadistic tendancies, or perhaps simply low self esteem. The episode closes when the landlord comes looking for past due rent. We find that the landlord is the same man who tried to pick up Mia at a local pub and the father of the boy that is bullying Ryan. After he threatens the family, Mia beats the man senseless. Great show with much promise.moreless
