  • This episode has all the classic elements of the show

"The Meister Spy" contains many, if not all, of the elements which made "Hogan's Heroes" remarkable:

-Hogan and Newkirk impersonate ranking Nazi officers

-Carter chillingly plays Hitler as a ranting madman who gets results from Germans through blind fear

-Schultz unwittingly comes within seconds of ruining the prisoners' entire plan

    -Klink is a bootlicking imbecile

-A double agent is exposed and tricked into revealing top-secret information

-Hogan finds time to flirt with a pretty girl

This episode proves that the ingenuity in writing and production did not stop or even slow in the series' later years. This brilliance and excellence of execution is truly exactly why I watch this show.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Hogan gives Herr Strausser's contacts information that there would an Allied offensive to the south. The correct direction was not given to him before the 'con' on Herr Strausser.

    • Carter does one of his rare yet chilling Hitler impersonations in this episode.

Actor Larry Hovis appears as Hitler without Carter's customary black gloves, which he insisted on wearing during filming to hide his real-life wedding ring. Since Hitler was officially married, the gloveless scene works.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Strasser: That uniform... You're an American!
Hogan: Someone around here has to be.

    • Miller: You're going to a German intelligence meeting?
Hogan: I really had nothing else to do tonight, and it is nice to get out of the house once in a while.

    • Hogan: The Colonel wants ya.
Schultz: I didn't hear him call me.
Hogan: Yeah, I know, but why wait 'til the last minute? I think he has a prisoner he wants locked in the cooler.
Schultz: (chuckles) How can you think you know what he wants me to do before the Kommandant even thinks he knows what he thinks he wants me to do? Impossible!
Klink: Schultz, on the double! I have a prisoner to go into the cooler immediately!
