With only eight weeks left before the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and the day that Mike had promised Gloria she would be able to move into her new home, some unwelcome news hits Mike's team hard.
After Mike had offered to bring in the loved ones of his crew for brief visits since everyone was feeling a bit homesick, Kate recieved news that her father is about to undergo emergency heart surgery. Mike understands her family crisis and books her on the first flight home to be with her family in their moment of need. If being one person down wasn't bad enough, Pinky felt she could no longer stand the oppressive heat and humidity, in addition to the emotional stress of being away from her family and friends for such a long period of time. She informed Mike that she would be unable to continue. This left the team two members short and they were already behind schedule.
To complicate matters further, they would be losing Sherry Holmes due to personal issues back home and Peter Lundy would be leaving for a while. while these departures were not surprises as Kate and Pinky's were, they would still leave the team seriously short on manpower. In order to offset this problem, Damon began recruiting local talent to help finish this project on time.
Despite the setbacks, the work continued. At this stage in the construction, Mike was determined to quickly finish the framing of the first floor and to get the outer walls up. At the moment when he needed the help most of all, four local framers stepped in to give Mike and his crew a hand. With the added manpower, the job began to steam forward again.
