The episode begins with footage straight from the video of the ad for the proposed Macklin Resort. Then we get a shot of the TV screen showing the ad, and the shot zooms out of the TV in Stacey's office. Stacey is playing the video to Tom and Frank. Tom has this argument with Stacey, saying it puts Summer Bay in a bad light, saying it makes Summer Bay look like "the pimple on the backside of some tourist resort". Meanwhile, Stacey tells Tom of for not taking down the name of the doctor who called about setting up a surgery in the Macklin development. It later turns out to be Phillip Matheson, as he turns up. Stacey has a good yell at him over the proposed surgery as he begs for her to get back together with him and she refuses.
Martin Dribble helps Bobby put up a banner on the roof of the new Bayside Diner (this is the first time we ever see the outside view of the Diner). After Martin smashes God knows how many dollars worth of glasses in the storeroom behind the kitchen (where Marilyn's salon is going to be), he promises Alsa he will give her a cheque to pay for the breakage, and begs her for work at the diner. Alsa is very reluctant, because of his reputation for checking out the legs of every sexy chick who comes into the shop. Bobby makes similar comments, saying to Dribble "if hassling the chicks was a crime, you'd be locked away for life", after Alsa tells her the bad news she has let Martin work at the diner once it opens. Meanwhile, the HSC results arrive for Roo. Despite Alsa telling Alf not to open the envelope saying it's addressed to Roo, he opens it and goes on about how much of a failure she is. Alsa tells Dribble about it at the diner as he waits up for news on Roo's HSC results, which isn't good.
Steven and Bobby ask Tom permission for the use of his car so she could drive to "the city" to see Carly. After he initially refuses (saying her feet wouldn't reach the pedals), he gives Bobby the go-ahead. So, Bobby and Steven drive over to "the city" and sees Carly in the flat where she is staying at, to give her her HSC results and the leftovers from Christmas: her Christmas presents. Carly seems to be intoxicated with something, and doesn't seem to pay much attention or take Steven and Bobby very seriously. Bobby gives her an invite to her wedding, but says she'd better be up to it if she comes. Bobby also says something to Carly about how she (Bobby) grew up in a house full of people drowning in the booze in telling Carly how stupid she is for getting pissed all the time. It doesn't seem Carly got very good marks for her HSC either.
Bobby gets her HSC results, and jumps up and down in amazement at getting such a good mark! We don't hear about what mark she actully got, but Alsa says it's the best HSC mark she has seen since "the stone age". Mr Fisher is also very proud of Bobby's achievement. Bobby comes over to Mr Fisher's, to drink a toast to her success. She even gets to call him "Flathead Fisher"! Mr Fisher also gives her a present: Alan's book (a month before its official release), which has a dedication to her in the front cover. Meanwhile, Alsa and Alf decide they would go away with Roo for a week as she has had a hard time all this year and the bad HSC result will add to it, so she needs a break for awhile (Alsa tells Alf he has Buckley's of having success in talking Roo into repeating Year 12). At the end of the episode, Alsa tells Bobby she will be going away with Alf for a week leaving Bobby in charge of the diner, and kinda gives her permission to snoop around the empty house for Martha's diary while she is away. Alsa advises Bobby not to find out who her real parents are, warning she will be very disappointed, but Bobby remains determined, as she doesn't want to keep wondering all the time.moreless
