  • this is sad unless you hate jonathan taylor thomas or randy taylor. but still it is kinda sad.

i only say it\'s not my favourite story line because i don\'t want to see jonathan taylor thomas (randy) leave the show. the end of an era! i really wish they hadn\'t taken jonathan out of this show, he is just so cool! funny, smart, good looking, this kid has it all! at least they did bring him back for 1 episode and featured him in \'the long and winding road 2\' the farewell episode with clips of all the funny bits. but i just saw the E! true hollywood story: home improvement, and they said there was interviews with all the key cast members, jonathan wasn\'t interviewed! that really annoyed me. i know tim allen wasn\'t happy about jonathan leaving the seris but i think they should either have asked him back or he should been a good sport and just come back for all his fans! either way one of them wasn't being the bigger man. ok thats moved off this episode hasn\'t it? oh well. this episode is rather sad. you get me.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Goof: Tim confesses to Randy that one of the reasons he doesn't want him to leave is they haven't souped up anything together. However in season 3 "Slip Sleddin' Away" they souped up Randy's sled together.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Jill: (about Randy going to Costa Rica) I mean, he's got his heart set on it.
Tim: So? When he was eight years old, he had his heart set on that pony. He never got that.
Jill: Well, maybe if we'd given him the pony, he wouldn't be going to Costa Rica!
Tim: I still know that pony guy. I'll cut a deal with the guy. Although it would probably be a horse by now, wouldn't it?

    • Tim: Look, if you don't want him to go, let's just tell him he can't go.
Jill: We can't do that. He'd hate us!
Tim: He's a teenager. He's supposed to hate us.

    • Tim: Don't you need some time to get your stuff together?
Jill: Yeah, you have to get clothes, you have to get all those shots...
Tim: Translate your records into Costa Rican.

  • NOTES (4)

    • As a tribute to Jonathan Taylor Thomas, the end of the episode featured some of the actor's most memorable bloopers during filming over the course of the series.

    • Starting with this episode, the theme song has been shortened, lasting 30 seconds.

    • Shortly after this episode aired, Jonathan Taylor Thomas starred in the movie I'll Be Home For Christmas. Tim Allen was angry when he found out about this, because Thomas claimed that he wanted to be written off the show so he could prepare for college, and instead, he spent the summer filming a movie.

    • Jonathan Taylor Thomas leaves the series at this point. He appears later in the season in the Christmas episode "Home For the Holidays" and is featured in archive footage in the second part of the series finale, "The Long and Winding Road (2)".

    • When Tool Time was looking for the right song lyrics, Tim hit the gong when he didn't like the song. This is similar to the '70s game show The Gong Show where the contestants tried their various talents and were judged by celebrities.

    • Adios (the episode title) is Spanish for goodbye, as we say goodbye to Randy (he leaves for the year to go to Costa Rica) and the actor who plays him (although this is not the last we see of him).
