Brendon, Melissa, and Jason arrive at Camp Campington for a week of learning how to make better movies. But it is a living hell. Meanwhile, Coach McGurk is being chased by a group of "Man-huggers"
This is one of the funniest episodes of any show I've seen. H. Jon Benjamins voice acting is absolutely superb. He was brilliant on Dr Katz as Ben and he has continued on the good work on Home Movies. The storyline of the coach is brilliantly done. I laughed so much in this episode, I hope they do a commentary on this episode on the DVD set. I just discovered Home Movies and this episode puts it right up their with my favorite shows. Its just a pity I only discovered it after it was cancelled. If you want to check out Home Movies watch this episode!moreless
This is far and by one of the best episodes of the series. This is one of the episodes that started the whole "Maybe I should stop making movies" thinking by Brendan Small.
Brendan arrives a Camp Campington, where he shows off his movies to great disgust by his fellow campers and by the overly-mean camp couselors.
Also at the camp are Dwayne who is acting as a counselor by singing with a back-up band...(I think...) but more importantly the back-up band is no other than... They Might Be Giants! Both Linnel & Flansbourgh (John) appear and sing many songs throughout the episode. Add a hilarious side-story with McGuirk being chased by hippies and well sir. You've got yourself some rip-roaring humor I tell ya what! Look forward to DVD Season 4, because this is an episode to watch Over And Over Again.moreless
In the animatic view on the special features, the film that Brendon shows to the camp director is titled "Catholic School Squirrals (sp.)".
Edit
The guests They Might Be Giants go from saying "Camp Campingston" in the song "Camp Campingston URGR8" to saying "Camp Campington"(no 'S') in the song "Taste The Fame".
Edit
Meatballs:
Brendon tells Jason that he will be the one at camp who is overlooked and then is taken under the wing of a counselor and later wins a race. This is the plot of this movie.
Edit
Venom: The song that was played in Rabbit Troop's performance at the end, "Welcome to Hell", is a homage to the song of the same name by Venom, one of the first satanic metal bands.
Brendon also says before, as the councilor that he is In League With Satan, which is another Venom song from the same album.
Edit
McGuirk's Hallucination Sequence:
Stephanie covered in blood = Famous scene from "Carrie"
Woman combing hair in mirror = "The Ring"
Lynch... = Buffalo Bill's dance from "Silence of the Lambs"
Man looking out over river = "The Ring"
Walter & Perry in blood covered hallway with "Rec Cos" on the wall = The twins from "The Shining"
Clown in front of rope = "It"
