Home Tonight

Show Summary

Home Tonight is a classic soap opera filmed live from the British Independent Television Authority studios in 1961. The series revolves around The Sutton family, who lives in the fictional seaside town of Abernathy. The season starts with Paul (David Hemmings) and Dot Sutton (Patricia Brake) relocating to the town of Paul's rich father, Henry Sutton (Eric Phillips). Their children Peter (Andrew Laurence), Emma (Patricia Regan) and William (John Downing) do not adjust well to Abernathy, hiding this fact from their parents, who think everything is ok at home. Clean-cut William gets involved with some grass smoking beatniks, and Emma starts to hang around a rowdy bunch of girls. After Dot discovers that young Peter is turning into an habitual liar, she contracts child psychologist Tina Botelli (Jill Carson) to help him. An attraction develops between Paul and Tina, and Emma finds out about it. She confides in her Uncle Tom (Malcolm Russell), who is not on his brother's best-of-friends list. Tom blackmails Paul into giving up part of his inheritance to support his ravish gift buying habit for his promiscuous wife, Jean (Rowena Torrance). Things in the Sutton family get even more complicated after Henry Sutton takes ill.
