Show Summary

Homeostasis is an educational series that originally aired on TVO in 1984, a television network in Canada dedicated to educational programming. It consists of six one-hour episodes that are intended as supplemental instruction in a life science class. The series is suitable for students in grades 9 through 12. The titles of the episodes are "Coping With Change," "The Sea Within," "Osmoregulation," "The Feedback Cycle," "Biochemical Balances" and "Hormonal Control." The series begins with an overview of homeostasis as the ability of an organism to regulate its internal environment. The next segment compares the composition of blood to that of seawater. The use of osmotic pressure to maintain an organism's water content is the subject of the next lesson. The next episode explores the feedback cycle, in which a biochemical signal controls the output of that signal. The next module explains the process of balancing hormones that have opposite effects within the body.
