Homicide: Life on the Street

Season 7 Episode 22

Homicide: The Movie

Aired Friday 10:00 PM Feb 13, 2000 on NBC

  • Trivia

    • It seems odd that Mike Giardello, after leaving the FBI, would be forced to spend time as a uniformed officer before getting his detective shield in Baltimore PD. All FBI field agents must have a minimum of three years law enforcement experience before they can even apply for a position as a special agent. Mike would have had at least this much basic experience before entering the Bureau.

  • Notes

    • Whitney Allen puts in an uncredited appearance as Miss Sally, the delightfully innocent host of the TV show-within-a-show, "Miss Sally's Schoolyard". Due to said host's attractive looks, "Miss Sally's Schoolyard" is the show of choice for the inmates of Oswald State Penitentiary - better known as OZ.

    • Ed Begley Jr. puts in an uncredited appearance, a character he played on St. Elsewhere, which was Tom Fontana´s first series.

    • A transcript of this TV film, also known as Homicide: Life Everlasting, can be found at http.//www.windowseat.org/homicide/scripts/

    • In Chicago we were also treated to an extra feature during the local news that feature Andre Braugher as a child growing up in Chicago. Andre went to St. Ignatius for his high school education, where the report also informed us that writer James Yoshimura was also a student.

    • After the episode finished airing, NBC offered this movie for sale, as well the "Anatomy of a Homicide" documentary that features "The Subway" episode.

    • I initially thought that I would like to see the series be left hanging as it was, with occasional references to it on Law & Order and with Munch relocating to New York to work with the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit that seemed like the only way it was going to happen. Then this movie came along and tied up some of those loose ends, and I liked that feeling of closure. Of course they also opened up a couple of new loose ends, but we had to expect that. After all, you can never have total closure in the television world, much like real life.

    • Music in this movie: Peter Tosh "Pick Myself Up" alb: Equal Rights; Beck "Beautiful Way" alb: Midnite Vultures; Gomez "Devil Will Ride" alb: Liquid Skin; Smashing Pumpkins "Crestfallen" alb: Adore.
