Lewis: Do you even know anybody in the witness or knows anybody who knows anybody in the witness programme.
Falsone: Nobody has, that's the point they're invisible. They're the Neilsen family!
Munch: I'm not gonna start a murder investigation without witnesses, without a crime scene, without relevant information as to why that body is in that hallway, on that gurney to nowhere.
Griscom: It's a mystery, don't detectives like mysteries?
Bayliss: No, actually we hate a mystery. What we like is when a case makes immediate sense and we're able to lock someone up right away.
Munch: There are rules to this business, fundamentals. The phone rings, we pick it up, we write down an address and we go to where that person was murdered.
Bayliss: Hum-hum, i.e. the crime scene.
Munch: Exactly, that's what we call it the crime scene. We go and evaluate and canvas, the crime scene, hoping for witnesses.
Bayliss: Living, breathing witnesses.
Munch: We come to the morgue only after we have processes and canvassed the crime. We do not come to the morgue to make the acquaintance of fresh murders.
Bayliss: Yeah, that'd be stupid.
Griscom: All of this is stupid.
Munch: Well call us when it's less stupid.
Griscom: Where are you going?
Munch: When you can tell us where that body came from I will go to that place and start an investigation, until then it's not our case.
Griscom: Who's case is it?
Bayliss: Well they say that possession is nine tenths of the law.
Griscom: Who's this?
Morgue Attendant: I don't know.
Griscom: What do you mean?
Morgue Attendent: He's not tagged and we've got no paper work on him.
Griscom: Why is he here?
Morgue Attendent: Well he's been stabbed to death, doctor.
Griscom: I can see he's been stabbed to death. I took out two hundred thousand dollars in medical school loans to be able to say with some authority that he's been stabbed to death. But why is he in my morgue without paperwork? No reservation, no service.
According to viewer John McDermott, when both Falsone and Lewis interview the man and woman in the witness protection program they both refer to their former residence as "Grover's Corner, NH, a wide spot in the road." This is a quote from Thornton Wilder's play "Our Town".
Music in this episode: David Linley "Don't Look Back" alb: El Rayo-X; The Subdudes "Late at Night" alb: Annunciation.
