I mean i think all the characters, music, and comedy is all great but the storyline really needs to come up! And they do everything way too much(like when he jumps in the file cabinet, pops out of the garbage dump with his car,or when he looks at his book of Hong Ku or whatever it is) I mean folks come on ya know the storyline repeats and now i know why the show only lasted 1 season(16 episodes)how pathetic is that? I guess they got letters and it discouraged them from making new episodes or they realized how boring it was and just stopped.

I doubt it, maybe they just ran out of ideas for episodes because they had other Hanna-Barbera cartoons to deal with.

By the way, you left out the feline sidekick doing all the work and the bumbling hero taking the credit routine.

It's called running gags. Most old cartoons did the same thing.

Yes, these were definately made for kids who probably just thought that stuff was funny.
I loved it when I was a kid. I bought the dvds when they came out and even today, I just happen to have my HKP tshirt on! lol

I was thinking earlier it might be a good premise for a movie a la' Underdog and Alvin and the Chipmunks style. Some live action and HKP and Spike being CGI.

You have to have watched this show as a child to understand why people like it. What kids find as funny is completely different than what an adult will laugh at.

The name "Hong Kong Phooey" was enough to send my brother and I into fits of giggles. That, and the ridiculous fights they got into were enough to make the show for us.

But if I watched it for the first time nowadays, I would probally feel the same way as the "haters" of the show.
