Hooking Up, a new reality show from ABC that premieres Thursday, July 14, follows the adventures of a dozen New York women who venture into the world of online dating. The women attempt to develop healthy relationships they hope will… more

  • This was a short-lived reality show that followed women from the computer to the date. It's about the growing world of online dating. Each show follows several storylines at once, entertwining each. Most dates fail but the stories are interesting enough.moreless

    "Great"
Of all dating shows this was one of the best--if not the best. The show was tasteful and respectful of the dates. Most camera shots seemed to be from far away--unintrusive. It was edited in such a way that you could identify with the singles as people rather than characters. Post-date interviews with the women, and sometimes the men, revealed insights into the state of the current modern dating world. This show seemed to follow what a reality show should be. There was no (at least it appeared) intervention by the producers or cameras. The show felt like we were really watching a real date rather than fabricated exaggerations like Shipmates, or Blind Date. In this show, there was no vested interest on the part of the show to \"hook up\" the women. Instead, the show took the role as a neutral voyeur interested only in the reality of the modern dating world. It was a dating show, but it seemed to set a new trend in dating shows instead of following the trashy precedence that often appear in reruns after midnight. It is a shame that this show was so short-lived.moreless

This show is fun to watch. It is interesting to see people date. I know I wouldn't want to have to put myself out there now a days. But it's fun to watch these people go on date after date and the interesting (sometimes) people that they date. It's kind of addicting to watch.

  • 11 women let cameras follow them as they go on dates with men they meet on the 'net

As a veteran of on-line dating, I was intrigued to see a show in the summer line up about on-line dating. As a veteran of on-line dating, I've become disappointed in the path the show is taking. The women do not seem characteristic of the kinds of women who are doing internet dating. If I were a man, I wouldn't go out with any of them. I'm also tired of seeing the same two or three women each week. The men also do not seem like the typical guys looking for internet dates. I wonder how many of the show's participants have "acting" listed on their resume? I wonder how many have gone to NY to act?
I hope the show gets better, but I have low hopes right now.moreless

  • If the women profiled on the show weren't so neurotic and picky, you might actually like them. And have hope as a single person regarding internet dating.

This show has a familiar concept and executes it in a familiar way. It's too bad the women profiled aren't actually interesting...they're just annoying, neurotic and bitchy. No wonder they can't find a guy. They complain and do strange things and have strange agendas...but then blame the men for pointing it out. It makes me even MORE SAD as a single person to see these "quality women" really screw up a good thing based on petty personal hang-ups. The show really gives you a view of just HOW MUCH women lie while dating. Lie about their profession. Lie about what they want. Lie about how they feel. The women on the show are just liars, but then cry out if a man is not forthcoming. I have to wonder if they SEE what I see when I watch this thing. Hopefully, at least one will turn to a friend and ask, "Am I really like that." "Yes." And no WONDER you're single. -- Oh sure, I'm gonna keep watching. It's typical and the women bug the hell outta me...but I gotta keep watching.moreless
