Episode Summary

Are we Alone in the Universe?
For centuries, humans have looked up into the night sky and asked: are we alone?

For fifty years, SETI has been trying to find out.

There are a couple of hundred billion stars in our galaxy at least half of them proberbly have planets. That 100 billion planetary systems. There are eight planets in just our solar system. If we assume that there are five planets per solar system, on average, thats half a trillion planets in our galaxy alone. And there are more than 100 billion other galaxies." At least some of those planets must have life?

Horizon looks into new technologies that are helping to identify Earth like planet in other systems so that SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) can essentially be given a phone book.moreless
