Nicole Sullivan did the same "dating up/down" thing with the hands in her first appearance in the episode "Fifteen Seconds" from Scrubs.
Sellers: Hey, would you like to grab some lunch?
Emerson: Oh, I can't. I have a special date with my Bush.
Sellers: You think you've heard every rejection.
Sellers: I aimed too high with my ex-wife. She was really out of my league.
Emerson: Oh, I'm sure that's not true.
Sellers: No, she even mentioned it in the vows. She couched a little but everyone knew where she was getting at.
This episode was taped from 9/14/05-9/20/05, with the last day of taping occurring in front of a live studio audience.
One of the characters tells of meeting a mime. She says "He had me at..." and then she mimes "hello" with a big wave and smile.
This is an allusion to the 1996 movie Jerry Maguire starring Tom Cruise as Jerry Maguire. Jerry is a sports manager who has an epiphany that he expresses at work and is fired for, but then goes on as an independent with his only remaining client Dorothy Boyd (Renée Zellweger), using his new philosophy. In one scene, Jerry makes a romantic plea to Dorothy, who responds to him, "You had me at hello." This quote has become a widely-known saying since the release of the movie.
