The episode's title is a parody of the 1987 short film, Lupo the Butcher animated by Danny Antonucci (of Ed, Edd n Eddy fame).
Also, Danny himself was credited as Lupo D. Butcher when he provided the voice of Mr. Sun in the Ed, Edd n Eddy alien special.

The main antagonists of Hothead Goes to Jen-Gu Island are based on the main antagonists of the short-lived 1970s series, Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp. The team, CHUNK, is a parody of CHUMP.
