  • Bad Storyline

    5.0
They really didn't have to show someone sticking a knife in the socket, and you definitely didn't need to see a doctor copy it. Over all I still love this show but this seasons twist of trying to hire new people doesn't take away from the fact that the show still is starting to get stale. Hopefully they can start to add some interesting twists to the show soon. Having some to be continued episodes with a a few different patients with different stuff going on at the same time would be cool. Also you have to figure that by the end of the year all three of his original team will be back working for him.moreless
  • House treats a man with a seeing eye dog, and a manwho tries to almost kill himself.

    1.0
Absolutely terrible second half!!!!!!! The episode started out great! It was funny, witty, dramatic, and Housey! BUT THEN... It got worse with the shot at Detroit, **SPOILER** House electifying himself and the ending. The after life was somwhere they should not have gone! It went downhill, and by the end the cast was terrible and the plot bad. House's new team is getting boring, and the random snipets of his old team pointless at best. It was going to be a 9.0 at least till the second half. The tribal meeting style meeting was brilliant, and the game hillarious, but the end was so bad that it counteracted that, and then some. House is at its best in the beginning, and un-recognizeable by the end. "Painful to Watch", only in the second half.moreless

  • The afterlife

    9.5
This was another brilliant episode at the beginning of Season 4.

House splits the remaining candidates into two teams as they try and diagnose a man in a wheelchair. By the looks of it, the focus is on "Cutthroat **** and "13", with some other characters in the background. I have to admit I didn't expect the women to win, simply because more focus was given on the men.

I thought 13's mistake was a pivotel moment in the episode, and Olivia Wildes acting was brilliant there. I was so shocked that House kept her at the end!

House, meanwhile, attempted to kill himself after a clinic patients tell hims that he saw something when he had a near death experience. I certainly didn't see it coming, and by the looks of it he didn't see much. I think that was a minor quibble for me in this episode- House said he wanted to speak to the patient, but he was already dead- why would he want to speak to him if he saw nothing?

In another sub plot, Foreman finally makes an appearance running diagnostics in New York in a very House-like way- and ends up getting fired! I liked how the writers contrasted his boss with Cuddy, who generally gives House what he wants.

Meanwhile, Chase stands up to House! I have to admit, I did want to see more of the old team...minor withdraw symptons from them!

Overall, it was another great episode, yet not quite to the same standard as the first two- the lack of Chase, Cameron and Foreman was felt a little, whilst I have no idea why House kept 13, although I admittedly like her, and yet fired the rest of the women despite it being her mistake.moreless
  • House near death experience.

    9.0
Best 97 seconds? And House actually wants to experience to nearly death experience. How many times House almost die? I think this is the 3rd. First is season 1 episode 22, second is season 2 finale. Did he really wants to die? The other patient who has a really cute dog is having a disease. House ignores the case and let the team treats the patient. Few doctors went home last episode, makes this episode have less doctor and less confusion. And, I still hate Amber. I think House is right by calling her "cutthroat *****". She fits the name. I don't really like this episode. Kind of think this episode is filler and boring. But yet still great writing. I can't judge and say this episode is bad because I hate this episode. Same reason I can't say I hate vegetables because they are tasteless. But vegetables contain fibres and prevent constipation.

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • 120 volts AC won't stop a person's heart if it's only connected to one arm, let alone the right arm. The current will go down the arm, the torso (right side) and out the leg. Even across the heart of a child, 240 volts won't always kill.

    • When House and Wilson are arguing about Stark's belief in the afterlife, House says "he hasn't been there," implying he's never been dead, but in the season one episode "Three Stories" he is actually dead for about two minutes and says he's observed scenes from outside his body, mainly of the two patients in the episode.

    • When Stark is dying, Jody supposedly switches the tubing that is draining his chest fluid from the full bottle to an empty one. However, after Stark dies and the camera pulls back, the tubing is still going to the full bottle.

  • QUOTES (19)

    • House: You like exotic. Why are you here?
      Brennan: I want this job.
      House: Parents sick?
      Brennan: No, I... I just...
House: This is not the job you want. This is the job in the zip code you want. You engaged?
      Brennan: Yes.
      House: Tadaa!

    • Kutner: Wait, how do you want us to split up?
House: Good question, Overly Excited Former Foster Kid. There's ten of you. I was thinking six against six... no wait...

    • House: You ladies have the honor to give the patient a feeding tube, discharge him, and show up for work tomorrow. The rest of you, you're a disappointment. You make me want to stop dangling.

    • Cole: What are we supposed to be doing? It's almost 4.
Kutner: You've got somewhere to be?
Twin: We know he likes to manipulate people. He's probably testing us.
Amber: To find out what? How long we can look stupid for? He said he'd be here by 3. He's obviously not coming. I'm going home.
Cole: Nobody follow her. She pied pipered nine people right out of the job last week.

    • Cole: Why are you late?
House: To see who'd put up with it.
Cole: So if we left, we would have been fired?
House: I was gonna fire whoever stuck around. But since everyone stuck around...

    • Henry: We're not okay.
Amber: I get it. You don't like me because maybe I'm a little bit competitive.
      Taub: Manipulative.
Kutner: "Cutthroat Bitch" is your official title.
Amber: It's a game. You can either play for fun or play to win. If you want to win, you want cutthroat.
      Cole: No, thank you.

    • Dr. Wilson: You're an idiot. You nearly killed yourself.
House: That was the whole idea.
Dr. Wilson: You wanted to kill yourself?
House: I wanted to nearly kill myself.

    • House: (yelling at Chase) I can have you fired!
Dr. Chase: You already had me fired.
House: Just proves that I can.
Dr. Chase: Were the men wrong?
House: No. That doesn't change the fact that...
Dr. Chase: (interrupts)Why are you yelling at me?
House: Because performing tests for someone who's not a doctor in this hospital...
Dr. Chase: (interrupts again) You're frustrated. If you want help, I'm here. If you just need to vent, leave a message. (walks away)
Dr. Cameron: I like him better like this. You?

    • House: Why does his throat think his lungs are his stomach?

    • House: Can't let you leave. I think you're still suicidal.
Almore: I wasn't trying to off myself.
House: No, that's right. You were just trying to kill the wall.

    • Dr. Wilson: Just watching you is painful. I'm upping your pain meds.
      House: I love you.

    • House: Without competition we'd still be single-cell organisms.

    • House: Hey Wilson! I'm gonna cut some cripple's eye out. Wanna come watch?
      Dr. Wilson: Good times.

    • House: If you're gonna try to take yourself out, why use electricity? You could eat a bullet, or jump off a building...
Dr. Wilson: I love the team thing, by the way.
House: ...or bury yourself alive in Cuddy's cleavage.

    • House: (handing over his cane) Would you mind holding my metaphor for a second?

    • Henry: It was the best two weeks of my life.
House: I think I'll miss you most of all, ridiculously old fraud.

    • House: I'm going to fire the next person who asks me who I'm gonna fire.

    • Dr. Cuddy: You can't beat me at a foot race.
House: I thought we were dancing.

    • Dr. Cuddy: How advanced is the pneumonia?
      House: It's taking college courses.

    • Music: Not As We by Alanis Morissette.

  • ALLUSIONS (4)

    • House: Will there be 72 virgins also?
This is a reference to Islam, where supposedly martyrs will have 72 virgins waiting for them in heaven.

    • House: Thank you all for coming to Tribal Council.
House is mimicking the line said very often by Jeff Probst, host of the TV show Survivor. Survivor pits people against each other in strange locations and votes these people off in tribal councils.

    • Dr. Wilson: Interestingly, the rain in Spain doesn't actually fall in the plain all that much.
Referencing the song from the musical My Fair Lady, by Lerner and Lowe. The song references the phonetic phrase "The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain," which Professor Higgins uses to teach proper pronunciation to Eliza Doolittle.

    • House: Is he a Vulcan? If no, what makes Nimoy bleed green?
Referencing the TV series Star Trek, and actor Leonard Nimoy who plays the Vulcan science officer Mr. Spock. Natives of Vulcan have copper-based blood, hence the green color.
