I love this episode because first of all it connects to Wilson & Cuddy's plot with the whole poker night theme, that was the dash of humor in to the episode, House beat Cuddy & he wasn't even there, and House thought Cameron was hot when he was astonished at seeing Cameron in that dress. I like how Cuddy was drunk through the whole thing, in this episode I actually thought House wasn't going to find the cure, but finally he did! I like how everyone was looking spiffy throughout the whole episode. A great episode especially the montage in the end, a great episode!
  • Even House has killed a patient

It was so different to see House stealing a case from Cuddy, because House always avoids cases. I mean House walked away from a game of poker to work on a case!

This episode was funnier than usual too. I loved how House got Chase to come upstairs to work on the case and all of his mind games when he was on the phone with Wilson. Wilson and House were so funny in this episode and then Cuddy during their phone conversations just made it even better. Oh and House and Wilson at the end when they were playing poker was amusing as well. The case with Ian was very interesting. Everything they tried to do just made him worse. And how could you not love Chase in the beginning? He was great when he was trying to tell House that nothing was wrong with Ian and then when he and House saw that the kids Kidneys were shutting down Chase was ready to do anything. As House has said Chase is an a** kisser!

I loved the end where Cuddy had been called up to take over and House and team were still trying to figure out what was wrong. Of Course House wouldn't listen to Cuddy when she told him to drop it. He wasn't ready to let the kid die because he screwed up.

This episode was just so great; I loved the case and all the humor that went along with it.

I'm getting tired of writing such great reviews!!! This episode was brilliant- credit to the writers for writing a formulaic drama and making it so fresh and dynamic.

The difference in setting was brilliant, during the charity poker event. It was entertaining seeing House manipulate the game through phone calls.

I thought the story was very interesting- House trying to save a boy who displayed the same syptoms of an elderly lady he couldn't save before. It was a roller coaster of a ride seeing House desperate to figure out the puzzle, and perhaps doubting himself as he did so. The scenes with the poker added the comic effect, but it also gave some more insight into House's relationships with Cuddy and Wilson- I love the Wilson/House pairing, and, as I say many times, they are my favourite partnership. The ending where they are laughing and playing poker together was brilliant. I love House and Cuddy's interactions too; they are so similiar yet so different from each other.

Overall, I think, if you read my reviews, you must be getting tired of the same old writings, but this was another series classic. I think many series classics stem from this Season.

This episode was out of the ordinary for more than one reason. One reason is the difference in setting, in lack for a better word, with the poker tournament taking place during the episode. Since it's a festive occasion everybody is dressed up, and it feels like it takes place during a shorter time span than most episodes (even though it probably doesn't). The poker tournament adds more than a sidestory, it adds a different atmosphere and a chance to see the characters more "at play". From House, Cuddy and Wilson at the poker table to Chase trying to score by telling a really bad shark story.

This is also an episode which shows House from a more vulnerable perspective. He's really emotionally invested in the case. The question is though, is he emotionally invested because he really wants to "right a wrong" from his past, or just to save his own ego? It's up to the viewer to decide.

We also get another glimpse at what went on before the show started. I think it's been mentioned before that Chase was the first "duckling" to be hired, and this episode implies that Foreman was the last. It might just be me, but it feels like this is part of what forms the way House treats each "duckling". Even though he clearly doesn't like Chase's tendency to suck up, Chase seems to be House's go-to guy. Like how at the poker tournament he went to Chase, and sent him to find the others. It might also have played a part in why House was so angry with Chase last season for being the one who ratted to Vogler. I got the feeling that he trusted Chase more since he'd been around longer, and was more annoyed by the betrayal than he let on. And when it comes to Foreman, him being hired last might be one of the reasons why House seemed to be picking more on him than on the other two last season.

One character I really like is Cuddy. And this episodes were one of her better. I love the way she treats House, not being the least bit intimidated by him and never hesitant to snap back at his remarks. There's a different dynamic between her, House and Wilson than with the other characters, since they have worked together the longest and have higher ranks at the hospital. It was fun to see the trio playing poker together. Another aspect I like about Cuddy's character is that it doesn't feel like she's a "making a statement" type character, that they just wanted a female boss to be PC. I can't recall a single time where she's played the "I'm a woman" card, except for during banter with House, which doesn't count. But what I like the most about Cuddy is that she's genuingly out to do what's best for the patients, not to be right. We've seen it quite a few times before, how she's been in the middle of a heated debate with House and folds immediatly when it's turned out House is right. She doesn't keep pushing for her opinion just to avoid letting House be right. We see a bit of that in this episode, when she first forbids House to go near the patient, then when she finds him in the patient's room she asks him if he's figured anything out instead of throwing him out. She's the perfect boss to House, and a very likeable character.

This episode also included some scenes between House and Wilson, and they are usually among my favorites. They have quite an interesting friendship, and it's always fun to see. Wilson clearly knows House better than anyone else, but he's still often clueless to why House does and says the things that he does. In this episode it was very entertaining to watch the phone conversations between the two. And I loved the end scene where they laughed together and seemed to be having quite a good time. We need scenes like that every once in a while.

In 'All In' we got to see the doctors in the hospital from a whole different perspective. No labcoats, no needles, no "House! You can't do that!" (ok, maybe a LITTLE of the last one). In this episode we say the characters more like themselves, not just like doctors. Sure, every so often weget to see a glimpse of the life outside of the white coats, but there was serious character development in this entire episode. Chase's romantic side (or, him trying to be), House's ability to connect with other people (sort of), and Cuddy as fun human being (partially). Basically, 'All In' didn't go too far out of original character, but when out of original setting, and that's fun to see sometimes. If you are a fan of House, watch this episode!

This episode was greatly different form what we are used to seeing on House and I loved the change of action for an episode. Similar to "Three Stories" from the first season, I love how there can be something different done with the show besides Patient sick during the day with all the hospital staff around and random comical scenes from the clinic. I liked the desire that House showed in this episode to try and save the boy - by saving him it was like he was finnaly able to get over the life he couldnt save over 12 years ago. I thought the poker scens with House being able to control the game over the phone was one of the most comical things I have ever seen on House. This episode defines what this series is all about. Fantastic!
  • House's obsession

    10
    "Perfect"
House actually steals a case from Cuddy, which is he is not prone to do, so he can work on an obsession of his. He had a case, a patient named Esther, in which he couldn't get a definitive diagnosis, and it drove him crazy. Any chance he gets of getting a case similar to Esther's, House has to grab it. House begins to hope that this child has a diease called Erdheim-Chester, the diagnosis House thought Esther had but could never definitive diagnosis her with. If the child has it, House will think that he wasn't wrong with Esther, and he can finally let her go.

And also, House and Wilson's phone conversations about Cuddy are classic in this episode.

It was a fine, well-written ep. House has an obsession with an old lady he had not been able to save 12 years ago, and a young boy shows up with the same symptoms. After a lot of tests, he finally saves him, but he's going through a lot of stress. At this time we can see that this case is very important to him, and he's trying to exorcise his failure with Esther, the old woman who died. A funny part of the ep is the poker game he's doing with Wilson and Cuddy, analyzing them and each of their moves to find their bluffes. Definitely not the best one, but without a doubt a good one, as usual. And in the end we can see House have a good laugh, what is not so usual :)

the beggining of this was so good. i have no clue what i would do if my teacher went into labour inside a giant heart on a filed trip. like woah. and i also dont know what i would do if i was in the teacher's position. AAaaw dont they all look so cute in their tuxes? did you see the look on house's face when he saw cameron? she blushed haha.

It must be so hard for a good doctor like house when he cant cure a patient. To him so far this kid's case looks alot like Esther's. I dont remember what happens but im confident house will find a cure so he can save this kid and finally be content that he knows what was wrong with esther.

It was so hard to see house suffer. But then it was so priceless when he kept calling Wilson and messing with Cuddy's head. haha classic House. kawasaki's disease. my neighbor is seven, and he had it last year. we were all so fricken worried.... sorry tangent.

wow the kid had no oxygen for 8 minutes. thats a really long time.

Its up to you to see the end! Have fun!
  • What can i say? I just love this series. House it's obsessed with loosing no matter what.

House took quite a gamble with tonight's patient, who was technically Cuddy's patient. Six-year-old Ian (Carter Page) exhibits symptoms strikingly similar to a patient who had died 12 years before. Obsessed, House is out to solve his old case and this new one. In the process Ian undergoes a colonoscopy, tissue biopsy, MRI and a separate biopsy on the heart. He also suffers kidney failure, respiratory distress and cardiac arrest that leads to his brain's eight-minute oxygen depravation. Tuxedos, party dresses and oncology benefits aside, my question is: Did Ian suffer brain damage? The writers certainly made this issue disappear as easily as House's magic poker chip. I'll let it go because it was nice to see everyone out of the standard lab coat. Cameron's red dress took House's breath away. It's a good thing he has a new cane for support — the thing can even break through metal locks should one's after-hours access to the cafeteria be impeded. As always, Wilson is best when interacting with House, even over the phone using cloak-and-dagger references to poker partner Cuddy. "The chicken is still in Picadilly Square," he says. I'll never think of Cuddy the same way again. When not spouting inanities to House, Wilson makes an astute point about the element of luck in House's diagnoses, and though House denies it, we know the secret is out of the bag. Now when are his protégés going to call his bluff?
  • I didn’t think this case would be solved…

What an amazing episode… It kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last minute.

I really thought House really wasn’t going to solve this one, I have never watched an episode of House where I thought the patient would die. My unwavering belief that House can solve anything was definitely put to the test. I should have known better. How could I have doubted House?

In terms of character development this was all about House. While it featured everyone else they weren’t the ones facing ghosts of their past. House not only predicted the boys symptoms based on Esther’s symptoms but he also predicted Cuddy’s hands at the poker game. When House went to sit in the boys room while he thought I felt that it added so much to his character when normally he won’t even step foot in a patients room unless its to get information out of them or their family. It shows that he has a softer side and might even care about his patients.

    Overall a great episode!!

  • This child has all the same symptoms of a patient that house had 12 years ago. He needs to figure out how to diagnose it this time...

Dr. House has a new 6 yr old patient that has the same exact same symptomes as a elderly patient 12 years ago whom died. He lost that case, now hes going to try to make up for it with the boy. Its not his case though so hes sort of in trouble throughout... He almost looses the boy a few times and hes diagnosed wrong a few times. Its most suspenceing. I couldn't figure out whether or not he would die. He didn't though. He was cured in time. (he did have a brain defect after word.) And... his collegue wins a ton of money at a casino! It was a good one.

OMG! this episode was hilarious. i loved the poker games and how he played with Wilson and Cuddy to keep them busy. This episode was great, it made me laugh till i pissed my pants. I hope the next one is as great as this one was, go HOUSE!! all the way!
  • A young boy is admitted into the hospital showing symptoms exactly like a patient of House's from 12 years ago... Ester. He wasn't able to save her then and now is hoping to use the boy to make up for that.

    "Bad"
The episode didn't have the great tension and such that previous episodes generally do. However, it was good in showing House's personality. Again it shows the idea presented awhile ago that despite the fact that he doesn't seem to care... this is his obsession and his life.

It also shows that House is not always able to save people, because Ester wasn't saved.

Other than that... I didn't think it was that great.
  • I must warn you, I only saw the last half. This reiview is more on House\'s behavior than on the actual plot.

This episode, plot aside, was a great character study. We saw House in all his obsessed glory. And you know what? His obsession paid off. Go figure. Think they\'re telling us something? Probably.

House\'s obsession with the case actually brought out his softer side....did anyone want to cry watching him sit in the clean room? I did.

    May esther rest in peace!
  • I've heard that some ppl are calling this a filler episode. I find that hard to belive. It was definatly top notch.

I loved it. The case was cool enough, but that they were supossed to be playing poker was even funnier.

It dosn't surpise me for a moment that House knew all the information in esther's file. I found it hilarious that he had pulled out the file multiple times tring to diagnose people who didn't have the same thing. The little boy Ian was really cute. He did look a little to healthy to bew extreamly sick, but lets go with it. It was so cute when his mom was crying as she was trying to get him to sit still.

Wilson with Cuddy at the poker table was great too. I espicially loved how House could tell what cards Cuddy had without even seeing her. They must have played together before.
  • Kept me on the edge of the seat.

Maybe the best episode of House. This episode really kept me on the edge of the seat. This episode was about a boy who had a similar problem with Houses old patient and House needs to compare the problems which where bloody diariar, loss of breath which the old patient died. I mean I thought this would be the first episode where the patient would die because up to the last minute but House saves the boys problems.
  • This is the one show that keeps getting better and better. Marvelous episode.

    "Superb"
I loved the whole hospital charity party thing. That was new and refreshing. House's reaction when he saw Cameron all dressed up was also nice, so was Chase telling silly stories to get laid and the way House interupted them.

House has some skeletons in his closet, at first I was convinced that Ester was somebody special, someone close or personally dear to House and I was dissapointed when it turned out she was special just because she was a case House could not solve. If she had been close to House we would have gotten to know something about his charachter. But it wasn't less exciting to watch him struggle with the case.

Wilson was fabulous as usually, him and House are the best thing about the show. Loved the ending.
  • Solid outing, but nothing remarkable

    9.0
    "Superb"
"All In" proved a solid episode, but not a remarkable one, particularly when compared with the excellence of the last two. The frame of the Poker Night was a nice deviation from the norm, and the correlation between the two cases provided a "clock" lending the team's efforts urgency. There was some nice stuff between House and Wilson, as usual - although not nearly as strong and energetic as in recent weeks - and Cuddy's tipsy antics proved quite amusing. The kid's acting was quite strong, and the mother did nicely as well.

Ultimately, though, the characterization disappointed somewhat. The obsessed hero's a cliche, and an all-too-obvious one to apply to House. We didn't need an episode to demonstrate his dedication to his work or his willingness to take big risks to save lives: we see it on a daily basis. Compared to his usual behavior, he didn't seem as consumed by this case as we would have expected. Maybe if he'd really gone bonkers - a la "Distractions" - the episode would have been more effective.

Moreover, I have to say, referencing Moby Dick is itself a cliche of these sort of cliched obsessive-hero stories. To name just two examples, they had Khan quoting the book in Star Trek II to describe his obsession with Kirk, and Lily quoting it to Picard in Star Trek: First Contact to describe his obsession with the Borg. (Yeah, Trek fan.) Given this show's wit, I'd have hoped for something a bit more interesting.

Other minor complaints: the intro mis-direction is getting to be rather tiring. The very fact that they feel it necessary to pull the cheap trick of having the entering-labor teacher point out the (gruesome) symptoms of the child suggests that they should chuck the formula. It's a cliche of detective shows (like "Monk") to show the crime in the beginning, and I can't imagine "House" continuing to find interesting new ways to show people suddenly gasping for breath or soiling themselves.

And, the episode wrapped up too quickly. The kid suffered cerebral hypoxia for 8 minutes - as they pointed out, he probably received brain damage. Although he seemed responsive by episode's end, presenting the solution as a nearly-unqualified triumph (albeit a lucky one) seemed unwarranted: the kid might have learning disabilities or something similar. The ending should have been more bittersweet, or at least addressed the matter directly. Or, perhaps it would have been more interesting to give the episode a sad ending, as adorable as the kid was. Seeing House's response to repeated failure might have elevated the episode above cliches.
  • House finds a case mirroring another one from over a decade before which ended with the patient's death. In a race against time House and his team have to find what House missed the first time around.

    8.9
    "Great"
This was another well put together episode on the path to the end of the season. This time it was all about House and his inability to let certain things espically his failures rest. The patient, a six year old boy, and his worried parents were for the must part stock characters with no secrets or hidden agends which then to be very common on this show. There was no time or need for such plot twists in this story. Even the other characters were in more of a back seat position this week, with the exception of some early comic relief from Wilson and Cuddy. It was House's show and House's ghost as well. This episode was solely for the development of the character and I am happy to say it did not dissapoint. While there were not any real surprises or plot twists the est part was that it did not need any of those devices to be a well put together and important episode.
  • All In

I guess I would be in the minority to say that this was just an average episode of House to me. The poker scenes were the best because it showed yet again, how well House reads people and that is a large reason why he is such a good doctor. There have been numerous times where he suspects that there is something the patient isn't divulging that could be uknowingly critical to the case.

I kind of knew beforehand that House has a tendency not to let things go, so it was no surprise to me to find out he was sort of harboring an obsession with a case he had years ago. Though, I was moved for his want to cure and his fear that a case like that would happen to him again (Someone mentioned it was like the third or fourth time House thought the case was recurring, when only this little boy's case was).

It was interesting though to compare what would be more likely to affect an elderly person and a child. Also, interesting to see what it actually was Ernime Chesters (sp?) I have never heard of it before now.

  • Another teriffic House episode, they seem to keep getting better and better and better!

This was a really awesome episode. The poker bits were fantastic I love it when House, Wilson and Cuddy argue with each other. The bit where House goes up to Chase and starts talking about his anal fissure was amazing. I thought it was really interesting how OBSESSIVE House was over the boys case, it was really exciting, they left us until the last minute, and I was praying he would cure him. His expression when he finally finds out what it is is so amazing.

This episode was all around teriffic, the medical story was really intense and the other parts were still funny. Great episode!
  • The BEST House episode this season. Continues the recent run of excellent episodes. The kid was amazing.

I thought the episode with the woman who tried to kill her husband was very good but All In was excellent.

I loved the mix between the comedy and drama. They do it so well and Hugh Laurie is just amazing in this tailor-made role.

    Best bits:

    1. House's interaction with both Robert and Cuttie

    2. House's reaction to Cameron's beautiful dress

    3. The kid with the disease. (What a performance)

    4. House tricking Robert during his poker game with Cuttie

    5. House actually showing a little human emotion towards his patients.

I watched House for the first time yesterday, and it seems pretty good, but odd at the same time. Like, is it a private hospital they work at? The whole scenery just seems different, but it was cool. House is an awesome character. It also started out like CSI(event at the beginning of the show) which was cool.

Great episode, especially the parts with Wilson and House on the phone.Cuddy's dress was absolutely gorgeous, that color looks great on her,Cameron's was nice to.At least House thought so.While I was watching tonight my dad said "He's right every week,so why do they argue with him?"I agree, but I think one of the Ducklings just wants to show him up.
