Viewers can watch House for a variety of reasons: award-winning acting, the bizarre rare diseases and equally bizarre remedies, or the relationships between the employees of Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. But we watch it for the delicious venom that Dr. Gregory House spits forth.

House: The doctor is OUT

This is a busy time of year on the set of many television shows, as several favorite programs are deep into 13-hour-day, six-days-a-week production schedules in order to meet deadlines.

So now would be a very bad time for the star of a major television hit to take some time off...which is exactly what the face of House has done.

Actor Hugh Laurie, who plays Dr. Gregory House on the show, took an unexpected hiatus from production on Thursday to rush home to his native England, reports Variety. Publicists are saying that he had to attend to "family obligations," but Variety doesn't sound convinced.

"Adding to Thursday's mystery is that producers of the show were oddly tight-lipped, instantly referring media inquiries to publicists," reads the article. "In addition, Laurie's rep, Brandt Joel, just left [agency] CAA for Endeavor."

Representatives for Laurie said that the leave of ...

House is Back in the House

Going into Monday's season premiere, it seemed that the whole point of the series to date was to set the scene for this moment: the inevitable examination of Gregory House's mind. The doctor has always toed the line between genius and crazy -- and we all knew that House's trip to the asylum had been a long time comin'.

House (aka House MD), from executive producers Paul Attanasio, Katie Jacobs, David Shore, and Bryan Singer is a new take on mystery, where the villain is a medical malady and the hero is an irreverent, controversial doctor who trusts no one, least of all his patients. Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) is devoid of bedside manner and wouldn't even talk to his patients if he could get away with it. Dealing with his own constant physical pain, he uses a cane that seems to punctuate his acerbic, brutally honest demeanor. While his behavior can border on antisocial, House is a maverick physician whose unconventional thinking and flawless instincts have afforded him a great deal of respect. An infectious disease specialist, he's a brilliant diagnostician who loves the challenges of the medical puzzles he must solve in order to save lives.
