  • House M.D.: “Epic Fail” - good but not great.

    House M.D.: “Epic Fail”

Dr. Foreman: No House, the job’s still the same.

Thirteen: Even though there’s something missing…

    Taub: I’m short, he’s black, you’re gay-ish.

    Thirteen: (nods) That’s it.

House M.D.: “Epic Fail” - good but not great. House makes changes in his life… This is a new side of House… but he is still House. Despite the statement from Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital, Greg didn’t stop to go to counseling with a psychologist. In turn, Nolan advised to leave practice medicine. He thinks that House needs a hobby. And… House with Wilson decided to enroll in culinary courses. Here Greg reaches unbelievable success, however, the pain in his leg returns. And House decided to…

At this time his team deal with a patient (really inteteresting character, game developer, by the way) that posts all his symptoms on the net. As a result, Forman (new head of the Department of Diagnostic) having huge problems with patient. In addition, his relations with Thirteen also go under the ledge. The ending is extremely interesting, but… Spoilers - the evil. Therefore remains only to add, that episode’s name really justifies itself. “I guess we’re going to find out,” House says.

A very eventful episode of House that was a great follow up to the cinematic season premiere. We got a very intriguing cold opening that has never really been done or seen before, we really saw how great the cast was here in many instances, and finally, we got a nice twist at the very end that made us wonder what came next.

I loved the medical mystery this week, definitely one of the best. Thirteen going behind Foreman's back to look online just as Foreman had his epiphany was great, it was even more awesome when we find out that House was the one who solved the case in the end.

Coming in to this episode, I really didn't think I would like Foreman being the boss, but we got some great dynamics here, and now that the entire team has disappeared during House's absence, who knows what will happen next? The Cuddy & Wilson dynamic was also noteworthy. Overall, underrated episode of House, just a great episode.

Let us call this episode what it really is: an episode of Foreman, a new medical drama that will air on Monday nights in the timeslot previously occupied by House. Foreman is a spin-off of House maintaining the original cast, but limiting their screen time (except for Foreman of course) and making Thirteen the second lead. Annoying rant now over, but seriously this is not House. Gregory House is relegated to being the goofy neighbor (or roommate in this case) while Eric Foreman is the star. While I will admit that Thirteen and Foreman are not the worst couple on TV right now, having them at the forefront while Chase and Cameron are on screen for about 50 seconds combined is absurd.

The episode was still pretty strong, but it is clear that House is evolving and I do not like the direction it is headed in.
  • House the Cook

In this episode of House, the following happens. We open this episode with House announcing that he is quitting. And so instead of spending his days working as a doctor, he is spending them cooking. And apparently he is a very good cook. The team work together on a case, but soon, without House, the team starts to fall apart. Taub tells Foreman (who is now in charge of the team) that he quits.

And to make matters worse, at the end of the episode we see Foreman firing 13. The patient in this episode posts his symptoms on line to try and get a diagnosis, since the team isn't coming up with anything. At the end, they manage to solve the case, but we also learn that someone else got it right online and so they have won the "reward" money, which is $25,000. At the very end of the episode we learn that, that person is in fact House. Cuddy and Wilson believe that House is back on pills, so he gives them a urine test. But as he sits with his therapist at the end of the episode, we learn that he nearly slipped, but when he found the case on line, solving it stopped him.

After the brilliant Season opening, it was expected this episode wouldn't be in the same standard. Nevertheless, it was a strong episode.

The Foreman and Thirteen drama actually seemed, for once, nicely written! The dilemnas facing the couple was tied in with the medical case and Foreman becoming boss- it had a Season One feel to it, which is a good thing.

I didn't expect House to leave the hospital, but I knew he would be back by the end of the episode! I am very glad he didn't slip- it would have rendered the previous episode pointless! I liked his scenes with Dr Nolan- I hope they keep him around, to be honest. Living with Wilson was also very entertaining- it felt like Season 2 all over again! House also learning to cook was very funny, and his scene with Thirteen was actually brilliant- did the writers finally decide to install a personality into her?? She had one in Season 4, and completely lacked one last Season!

The patient was actually interesting, especially as he provided conflict, and posted his symptoms on the internet. It was a little predictable House would post the answer in, but it gave him a way back into the hospital.

Foreman firing his girlfriend was unexpectant as I didn't read the spoilers- maybe the writers are planning to split Foreteen and take them their seperate ways now! Which I am sure many of you will be pleased to hear!

And, with Taub quitting, the old team will be back! Yay!

Overall, a good, solid episode- after the most phenomenal opener, House is back to its formula, and looking solid. Good stuff.
  • House makes changes in his life.. His old team deal with a patient that posts all his symptoms on the net.

I like how the show has taken on a new direction. This is a new side to House.. yet he is still House.. it's just a new facet to him. It's interesting.

Foreman taking over for House... well it was obvious how unable he is to really fill House's shoes. And is it just me or has Foreman finally gone and become worse than House.

What I dislike about oreman is that he has quite a bit of House's bad qualities.. but almost none of his redeeming ones. And he has that irritating holier than thou attitude acting as if he's much better than House.

House might take drugs and is an ass.. But he atleast has an excuse.. albeit a flimsy one. Foreman is nasty just on principle.
  • It was a good episode, a needed break after the intensity of the opening, and a taster for what we can expect in the future. Can't wait for House returning next week!

After the intense emotional and psychological drama of the double season opener, it was expected that the writers would tone it down a little bit, and take the focus off the previous episode's issues, so that the facts will get a chance to sink in with the viewers. House is making a serious effort to change, to understand how the system works and he is accepting the possibility that it might not be so catastrophic to just roll with it. That is a *huge* change, after spending five seasons getting involved in House's internal conflicts, personal dramas and social issues. We got to identify with him, to feel his pain, to understand where he was coming from and dare I say, to adore the character, flaws and everything. So now we need time to assimilate the changes in his life, just as he does. In that sense the focus on the team and the changes in hospital hierarchy are fully justified.

They are also justified script-wise, it would look completely unrealistic if House was to get out of a mental hospital after a serious drug abuse problem, and after having decided to turn his entire life around, only to get back on the team and start diagnosing as if nothing had happened. His leg pain is obviously a serious reason for his refusing to incorporate himself in the "status quo", and now that he doesn't have Vicodin to take the edge of the pain off, he will need to cope with it before things can get back to normal. We understand that. I enjoyed the cooking breaks and the interaction with Wilson very much, even the scene with Cuddy and House's asian cooking buddy. A bit cheesy but a clever way to make a remark about Cuddy's choice of clothing.

What I didn't like was Foreman taking over the department and repeating the drama with the conflict between his feelings for 13 and his professional ambition. We already know he is ambitious, and that he puts his career before everything. His inadequacy to handle the patient case seemed fake. There were times when the invention of Foreman's selfishness preventing him to accept the proper diagnosis was getting stale. And frankly, how many times is 13 going to be fired? I personally like her and would prefer her to stay, but the writers need to seriously make a decision about whether they want the old team back or not. People leaving and coming back to the team all the time looks silly and unprofessional.

It was a good episode, a needed break after the intensity of the opening, and a taster for what we can expect in the future. Can't wait for House returning next week!
  • I knew it would be a letdown after the last episode.

He quits his job and Foreman is put in charge. So I guess that the series is over and it will be replaced in the Fox lineup next week by its spinoff "Foreman".

    Like that would happen ...

Forman yet again tries his hand at leading the team and once again fails epically. What is this about the third time Foreman has tried to replace House?

It is old territory that has been covered before.

House eventually saves Foreman's butt ... although how he does it is interesting. The grouchy Doctor will be back next week and all will be right with the world.
  • House tries to deal with life without drugs or diagnostic medicine. Meanwhile, Foreman is promoted to the head of the diagnostic department.

Epic Fail is an epic fail. This is one of those episodes that could be totally forgotten about at the end of the season and wouldn't make a difference.

Drama begins as House quits in order to keep himself from falling into his old habits of using. Without House, Cuddy promotes Foreman to the head of the diagnostic medicine department. Now trying to fill House's shoes, Foreman waffles between acting like House or acting like an anti-House. Neither way works and only causes tension in his relationship with 13.

By the end of the episode, we realize that House needs to go back to doing what he does best or he will start using again.

Well, putting all this together was amazing, showing how simple and direct things in life that we think are the reason or the cause of our misery or problems are actually not, trying to find a way to change our lives by ditching or getting away from what we are best at is not always the solution.

House is meant to be the diagnostician he is, and it is the secret for his solution. we will be looking for more of the amazing episodes to come, they need to keep up the pace, and we're looking forward for what will be going on.

As for Foreman, he's a complete egocentric maniac, who thinks of himself being better than House, he ruined his relationship, he alienated Taub, and he's destroying the whole thing, House for the rescue
  • Enjoyable storyline but enough with Fourteen and Huddy.

    9.0
    "Superb"
Every once in awhile, House does get a patient that is worthwhile and Vinnie was one of them. Unfortunately, he had to take a back seat to the mindless drivel called Fourteen and Huddy.

Foreman proved yet again that he really can't command respect from the team or patients. I enjoyed watching Vinnie and Foreman spar over his use of the internet for gaining information on his ailment. As much as Foreman tries not to be like House, he always manages to retreat to his arrogant and egotistical ways, proveing yet again that he really is just like House.

While Foreman did finally manage to come up with a correct diagnosis on his own, 13 was the first to announce it thanks to an internet post from a very familiar person who just can't say no to a good medical puzzle.

As could be expected, Foreman's new found authority puts a strain on his relationship with 13. Taub's resignation came as no suprise but Foreman's announcement to 13 was definately was unexpected. Let this be the end of Fourteen.

I applauded House's decision to quit the hospital and concentrate on research as a way of focusing on his recovery. Clearly House is committed to changing dispite a few stumbling blocks. The writer's gave us some memorable House/Wilson moments-in cooking class and back at Wilson's apartment. I loved watching House get obsessed with cooking as a means of taking the focus off his pain. Luckily for us, he realized rather quickly that the only think that really takes his mind off of his pain is solving medical puzzles.

One thing the writer's could have done without was making any reference to Huddy. While the Chinese woman's comment was cute is was unnecessary. It's time for the writers to either put House and Cuddy together or allow them to move on. To sum things up, the video sequences were interesting and the patient was one of the best in a long while. I still miss the clinic patients but at least the season is looking very promising.
  • The Foreman and 14 drama was a snoozefest, the only thing that saved this episode was the House/Wilson interactions.

    7.5
    "Good"
I don't understand why Cuddy would think Foreman could handle the job. It has never gone well when he was in charge. There was season 2 when House just rolled over him, then there was when House was at the CIA in season 4 and the team didn't listen to him, and then he screwed up the drug trial. Just because he has worked the longest with House doesn't mean he has learned the most, it just means no other hospital would hire him.

House and Wilson's cooking class was classic. All the undertones of sex throughout the whole episode was funny, even if I'm not a House/Wilson relationship fan. It was also funny that House figured out that Wilson broke his toilet to test House's urine and had a dog pee in the toilet.

And of course the writers continue to force feed us Huddy. A non-English speaker who meets Cuddy for 30 seconds tells Cuddy to kiss him. The funny part is that even a non-English speaker thinks Cuddy doesn't dress professionally; just take a look at her wardrobe from season 1, especially the first few episodes and compare it to now.

Oh jeez, more 14 drama- be still my heart.

Interesting that Cameron didn't visit House even though she was clearly interested in how he was coping since she asked Foreman. Wonder if Chase had anything to do with that?

Why does Foreman take it so personal that Taub quit? As Cameron said in Half-Wit, "There's no sense in sticking around if you aren't around." Taub joined to learn from House, who is brilliant and famous. Foreman has run a department for what, 2 or 3 months after he left in season 3?

Oh, 13 gets fired, that's new. Oh wait, she was fired in Lucky 13. And she quit when House made Foreman or 13 make a decision. And she has almost died like 2 or 3 times. The writers seem to realize that a lot of fans don't like her so they tempt us with her leaving all the time.

Oh, Foreman, stymied again, still yet to solve a case while at PPTH. And House wasn't even on the case.

Again the patient was on the backburner. I can understand the writers wanting to explore House coping after being released but I could have done without Foreman being insecure about not being able to do the job and the drama that caused with 13.

About as good of an episode as one would expect. There is no dramatic tension with House's quitting, because not one viewer had any doubt he'd be gone for good, and not just because the name of the show is House, hell he couldn't even make it through the entire episode without helping his team. But that's not really much of a flaw. The patient was a kind of a jerk, but he had to be in order to test Foreman's strength as a leader. Foreman and 13 were really good in this episode, I thought Foreman's dismissal of 13 in the end was a bit harsh, but Foreman and House aren't really known for their goody feelings. Taub's quitting was unexpected but very realistic, you can't really blame him and that often happens when someone's mentor quits. The only thing I really didn't like in this episode, and it's a very small thing was the videogame scenes. I hate when any show has a videogame scene because it looks really cheesy and is very unrealistic. Taub was probably just goofing off but him rolling around on the ground asking for help getting the bats off was kind of the peak of the cheesiness. Good episode, very solid. Fairly predictable except for Taub and 13 leaving, but a nice 3rd episode to a season (really it's kind of the 2nd since the first two were like a two-parter)
  • House quits as Forman takes over diagnostics. House tries to find hobbies to keep his leg from helping.

This ep was always going to have problems when it came to matching the season opener. But I admit that this was the follow up that was needed for the season, a transitional one. Here House isn't back but the procedual formula of the show makes its return.

This week House makes the decision to leave the hospital so that he doesn't fall back into bad habits. His resignation is accepted and Forman takes no time making a play for House's job. Cuddy decided to give him one shot with a new patient, if he succeeds then Diagnostics is his department. But he has to contend with a patient that is convinced the answer lies online and not with Forman's team. This leads to division in the ranks especially between Forman and Thirteen who struggle to take the dual relationships.

Meanwhile House has taken up cooking to take his kin off his leg. He turns out to be a great chef but over time the distraction doesn't seem to be working. His therapist thinks he just needs a new hobby that he will be driven by. But of coarse his real passion lies much closer to home and brings about the inevtable return of Dr. House.

SPOILER PARAGRAPH: Things are getting worse in the hospital though with Taub deciding to leave as he wanted to work for House and not Forman. Eventually this leads to Forman firing Thirteen as he can't handle being both boss and boyfriend. This leaves Forman with a team of one and with piles of resumes to run his eye over. If only he knew the impending return of House...

    SPOILERS OVER:

This ep was exactly what was needed, with the show going in a totally new direction for the season return the formula had to be eased back in or else the fans would feel that the eps that follow that stunning beginning were not enough. In this case House is given his own arena as the rest of the team are brought back to do their normal thing. Now wth next week no doubt a normal ep, I can't wait to see what the next patient has in store.

Missed a bunch of House episodes. Not too sure who '13' is. But, it doesn't matter. This is my favorite show on television. And, this episode did not disappoint. It was a nice change in pace to see Hugh stretch into a more 'varied' character. I too cringed when House had the pills in his hand. But, I knew he wasn't stupid enough to put dog urine in the toilet w/o realizing that his friend would be testing it for drugs. I was caught off guard to know that House was the one to get the $25,000. Awesome.

I liked this episode. Every scene with House was great, and it was cool to see him smiling with Wilson when they were at that cooking class together. I liked the scene where Wilson and Cuddy confront him about the pills, good to see he's not going to lose his smart-ass edge.

The actual medical case was pretty cool, and I knew that House would be the one to solve the case over the internet at the end. I would like to see more Cameron and Chase, but it looks like I'll be getting that next week (I LOVE Jennifer Morrison). As far as the Foreman story, we've seen it a million times. He takes over the department, has trouble filling House's shoes, makes a lot of bad decisions, and we know that sooner or later House will have to come in and fix everything. I'm sure this isn't the last we've seen of Taub or 13.

Speaking of 13, do we really need to be reminded of her bisexuality every ten minutes? Between the "that's the best thing I've eaten" line and the whole college roommate story, it feels forced. I get it, she's bi. I get it, it's hot. Her character is MORE than her bisexuality, right??

although not perfect, i thought this episode was a great transition from the psych hospital storyline to the regular hospital scenario. we got our medical case as well as the chance to see House improving. When he got that pill out of the shoe i was screeming at the tv "Don't do it House!!" and i was happy when he didn't. I absolutely loved the House distraction story line and the House-isms (i like to pretend they can see me eating lol). the case was pretty cool too, i liked how they integrated the video game graphics. i know a lot of people are going to be complaining about the 13 Foreman storyline. i am not in the camp that hates them but i was expecting more chase and cameron (but based on the teaser that looks like that will be happening next week). to be honest the only reason i didn't give this epi a 10 is because i would have liked to see more House storyline or more Chase and Cameron than FOreman only because we've seen that story before
  • Epic fail is right.

    6.0
    "Fair"
I realise that the show is trying to gear up to House returning to medicine, but I felt like I was watching a season five episode of the show. The only really good scenes were of House and Wilson, but even those were fleeting. For a show that seemed to offer a new change with its season six premiere really fell flat tonight.

Maybe it was just that the writers really forced Forteen on us that made this episode feel nauseating. That, and the special effects made me feel like I was watching Doom instead of House. Those scenes were great, but were they really necessary to set up the patient of the week as a gamer entrepreneur? I'm also assuming that the lack of House in this episode is due to the fact that they were probably shooting this episode along with the season premiere. If this show had not gotten as big as it has, we'd probably still be watching season two quality episodes.

Next week does look promising, but then again, FOX has glorified next week's episodes since the start of season three.
