  • Surprising criticism for a solid episode.

After skimming the scores on the reviews below mine I am surprised to see strong reactions against the return to formula that TV.com recently encouraged officially.

Whether or not the "medical mystery of the week" plot is enough to carry the series at this point is up for debate (I, for one, don't have a problem with it), but I'm more surprised by people not finding redeeming elements in the loose, on location photography, which is a nice contrast to the more commonplace on set B plot of the team working the girl case. I'm surprised people don't find anything to like on Wilson's (and through him, House M.D. the show) bold defense of euthanasia, which is almost as rare on TV as abortion. I'm surprised the bone thrown at those following the admittedly underwhelming overarching plot of the season fell so flat.

While it did not feature the best writing of the series to date, the episode was solid overall I actually find it comforting that the show has decided to stop trying to one up itself with gut wrenching drama related to its main cast and has gone back to a more sustainable and, let's admit it, less ridiculous take focused on the world around the characters. It's solid TV, and that's a lot.

Another really good episode of House. This ongoing arc has really helped the show this season. From House being institutionalized to Chase killing his own patient, this season has definitely been eventful.

I think with this episode, we finally got a sense of the entire "old" team working together again like how it used too be. In the last episode, Foreman called the shots, but in this episode we got back to the norm.

The medical mystery was definitely interesting, we got a lot of twists and turns to keep us intrigued. The return of Lucas was definitely unexpected but I don't know if I'll like the future dynamics of the Lucas & Cuddy relationship.

The scenes that bothered me were the ones that involved Cuddy & House at the 80s party. House was really out of character but of course my theory was defeated when House made the amazing gesture to Wilson at the very end. Loved the cliffhanger, great episode of House.
  • Great in parts

This episode was brilliant in parts, and pretty lame in others.

The medical conference was quite entertaining- House manilpulating his way around and everything was brilliant, although I find it hard to believe he wouldn't have been spotted- hes meant to be quite a famous doctor after all.

Wilson's speech drama was the best part of the episode, and I loved how House drugged him again! Very entertaining, with high moments of humour.

The patient back at the hospital was good, and I liked the character and how she lied- although her relationship with her parents wasn't much touched upon, which saddened me a little. The patient is the backburned these days, however.

It also delved more into Cameron and Chase, which was good, and I was shocked when Chase revealed what happened at the end. Great acting from the pair of them. Its been great seeing the old team at work.

But, for the love of God, stop with Huddy. I am tired of seeing it dominate the show. Didn't Cuddy used to be a boss to House, or something? Its gone far too far- their dance, then the heartbreak when Cuddy has got with Lucas. Its just a tired story arc- it was far more entertaining when House and Cuddy used to argue about medical cases, not tiptoe around their private lives.

Overall, a great episode in parts, but the overuse of a story arc seems to breaking the show ever so slightly.

    The Case:

A rather boring case. So boring I won't even take time to tell about it. While there were some interesting symptoms, there was no suspense. I'm starting to get tired of these cases that just reflect the personal lives of the doctors. I don't think they've had an episode that focused just on a patient with a really bizarre disease for quite some time. There are plenty of weird diseases out there, the writers just won't use them. In their defense, they are doing a very good job with the lives of the doctors, but they should really mix things up.

    4.5/10

    The Conference:

Very funny. Extremely well done. This part of the episode was easily superior. The revelation of Cuddy/Lucas was very important. The ending scene where House saves Wilson from throwing his life away is very moving.

    9/10

    Overall:

The good outweighs the bad. Definitely worth the time.

  • House M.D.: “Known Unknowns”. Hm…

    House M.D.: "Known Unknowns"

Dr. Wilson: Yes, you can sit her running up my hotel bill, or you can go get the woman of your dreams.

House: I didn’t know Angela Merkel was attending the conference.

House M.D.: “Known Unknowns”. Hm… When I read comments and reviews for this episode quite often I encountered severe criticism. The majority view, this episode clearly lags behind the previous, so it gоt a lot of unsatisfactory ratings. As for me, criticism perhaps isn’t without reason, but… I don’t agree with marks. As you can see, I put this episode very good mark, which is higher than marks, which I put “Epic Fail”, “Instant Karma” and “Brave Heart”. And now I will explain my decision… “Known Unknowns” isn’t very strongly or unusually. But… As for me, this episode is a logical part of the chain, which helps scenarists to finish Chase’s storyline and go to the next level/part of the series. Tension in the air as always can dilute the humor… However, there are other ways. So… House, Cuddy, and Wilson go to a medical conference. Meanwhile the team treating the patient, here, incidentally, it’s also an interesting story too. By the way, in this episode are a few minor plot lines. And… I think that it’s really great! Here is everything… Wilson is planning to give a speech about assisted suicide (!). House tries to deny him of this, but he is knowing that everything is useless, so Greg decides drugged Wilson. As a result, Wilson’s career is saved. Greg seriously decided to win Cuddy’s heart (particular on party in the style of the 80’s), but… appears really uninvited guest (by the way, you are familiar with him). But don’t forget about medicine, the case is indeed very interesting. And… Мy rating - 4.7/5

  • House in conference.

I think in some way, this was all about House. Ok, the title of the show says it, but I mean.. the case was little too much overshadowed and the main thing was just to make House realize in the end, he has been too late to say out what he means. But hey.. the end was shocker. For sure, I did not see that coming.

The episode was not bad, no. House has had only brilliant episodes this year and this one goes to the same line. I loved the whole conference thing and Wilson/House friendship developments and how House took that speaking there in the front. That was stunningly done: from writing to the acting. It was very well written episode, in parts (what were majority) dealing with House. The case was like something they thought they had to have but I think it had worked without too.

I will have to agree with the previous two reviews as opposed to the first impressions listed here, that seem to be rather negative. House is still one of the best shows on television right now, it's about character interaction as much as it is about medical mystery, and characters evolving, things changing between them isn't a bad thing, in fact it's the only way characters can go in order to avoid becoming stale and predictable.

That said, this particular episode wasn't the best written in terms of the patient case. With so many revelations at hand the patient unavoidably fell into the background a little, we know she has a condition which forces her to lie, we know some kind of substance is affecting her, and with the usual twists and turns in the diagnosis we suspect some rare disease might be the penultimate cause for all the symptoms. Apart from that however the focus is on the main characters, with good excuse might I add.

Wilson, House and Cuddy are transported away from the hospital environment to attend a medical conference, and the dynamics between the trio are given a more definite form. After teasing the viewers with the possibility for House and Cuddy reconnecting in previous episodes, the relationship is officially put to rest. House more or less declares his interest, in the party and afterwards when he takes Wilson's suggestion to offer to babysit. But it is a little bit too late, after such a long, bumpy ride with him Cuddy has given up on the potential of having a solid relationship with House. Since the beginning I think what excited her the most was the unpredictability and unconventionality of such a potential. House is the charming, unusual person you know will never bore you, but will never offer you a steady, idyllic home environment either. He will never tell you what you want to hear or do what you expect him to. I would go for him in a heartbeat, but it's understandable why Cuddy wouldn't, since she has a child to take care of now. In a way the love interest between those two was predestined to fail from the moment Cuddy adopted her baby, and in my opinion that's why she resisted investing in the baby emotionally at first. Part of her unconscious understood that as soon as the bond with the baby was permanent, it would have to be her first priority, and that would mean giving up on whatever hopes she had for House. Too bad because I would like House to finally be happy for a change, but then again, House with a white picket fence, a baby and a barbecue in the back yard, is not really House... The writers wouldn't be true to the character if they did that. Wilson finally acknowledges his friendship with House. Throughout the series these two have been having trouble establishing a continuous rapport, and especially when Amber died I thought Wilson would never forgive House. But after what happened in the conference in this episode, I think both of them understand now why this friendship is essential to them. House defends Wilson's career in his own erratic, unconventional way and is able to provide Wilson with what he really needs: interest and reassurance. Wilson has learned to understand House and he realizes that, even though the package may not come in the form he was expecting, House can be a true and devoted friend to him. Also, as has been pointed out in another review, the euthanasia issue is a hot potato everywhere, especially in the US, and it was very bold to tackle such a subject, to turn the focus on human suffering and the doctor's part in it. Is he supposed to alleviate the patient's suffering at the expense of his life, when his life can no longer be saved? Which comes first? Such an impossible question and yet every doctor deals with it at one point in their career.

Last but not least, Chase has finally revealed his secret to Cameron!! That is hugely important for what will come next. This moment was bound to come, their relationship would never have survived the strain of keeping it a secret. Now it remains to be seen how Cameron will react - though given Jennifer Morrisson's announced departure, Cameron will probably leave Chase. I disagree with condemning Chase for what he did but... there's nothing I can do about it unfortunately.

A crucial episode, necessary for the plot's further development, and as always a quality episode from House.
  • House goes to a conference with Cuddy and Wilson as the team tries to figure out what's wrong with a 16 year old girl whose disease is making her lie.

This show continues to entertain me this season to no end. This ep is basically just another example of why this show is just so good with plenty of humor and enough drama to keep you enthralled with every minute. Once again this season makes the effort to go deeper into the characters as well as keep the tries and true formula alive and well.

This week the patient is a 16 year old girl who is obsessed with a comic book writer. She comes in with weak muscles and swelling in the hands and feet and as usual it seems that as the crew treat things are just getting worse. But this one they have to do their best with as little House as possible as he is at a conference with Wilson and Cuddy. Needless to say that House does come in and save the day but there are still some great tests, trials and tribulations along the way that make the case another fascinating one.

Meanwhile, House is at first reluctant about going to the conference but when Cuddy is tagging along he decides to go and finally open up to her. House checks the roster for the conference and realizes that Wilson is making a talk that he knew nothing about. When House discovers it is to do with Euthanasia he implores Wilson not to ruin his career. In the end House takes some drastic steps to stop Wilson from giving the speach all the while not jeopardizing their friendship. And for better or worse the relationship between Cuddy and House is defined further by the end of the ep.

On a side note, Chase now must choose whether to open up to Cameron or not, he is afraid that the burden is too heavy for her to carry. But as she begins to suspect that Chase is having an affair, Chase's hand might be forced.

This ep was great, the formulaic stuff is always fun to watch with the team but the true crux of the ep lied with House at the conference with some great heart to heart moments, the return of a side character and some really great laughs. House is truely new and improved, both the character and the show!
  • Another solid offering.

While I would have liked to actually see Cameron's reaction to Chase's revelation, House is in the business of storytelling and getting people excited, so we'll have to wait until next week to find out.

This was a solid offering from House, although the commercials run by FOX referring to it as "the best show on television" have left a sour taste in my mouth. Have Lost, Damages and Dexter suddenly been cancelled and everybody missed that memo?

House had some good lines, Wilson had some good lines, the medical mystery was barely showcased, but was still entertaining and intriguing as well. Not sure what else people want from this show.
  • A nice mix of House in the outside world and medical mystery of the week.

I thought both stories this episode worked well. The conference story had all the big guns, so you'd expect that to work, and back at the hospital, I liked the interaction with Chase and Cameron, the medical mystery was interesting enough for not being the focal point, and Cameron's misplaced anger was an interesting beat. Foreman's steadfast and levelheaded refusal to instert himself into the middle of Chase and Cameron's relationship, and the final scene with Chase finally confiding in Cameron both worked well too.

It's not the same House we've seen in the past, but I like what I've seen so far and I like where it's headed.
  • Euthanasia? Informed Consent. Huddy crap and Wilson trying to hook up House and Cuddy? Pretty much all of season 5. House drugging Wilson? Resignation. House interrupting Wilson with a patient and using the 'Are they dying' line? Autopsy.

    "Poor"
Is there a more over-sexualized character on network TV than Cuddy? They make her wear all these tight clothes and constantly show shots of her butt and breasts, not to mention the strip scene. Compare her clothes now to what she wore in season 1, especially the first few episodes.

Cameron has tried talking to Chase and Foreman about what Chase is hiding. Why wouldn't she ask House? He doesn't baby around feelings. He has been hinting around something to try and get Chase to tell her so he would probably tell Cameron if she asked him. Interesting that she jumped on the affair bandwagon. However, I guess if your spouse is hiding something, an affair is the first thing that comes to mind, not killing someone. Cuddy and House knew each other in med school? I guess the writers don't remember season 1 anymore because House acted like he didn't know her in 3 Stories. And Stacy would never have gone against House if Cuddy didn't give her the alternate option so why can House forgive Cuddy but not Stacy?

Wow, Wilson killed his patient? I wonder if this was the first time or if he has done it before. However, can the writers come up with something new? Cameron in season 3, Chase just recently, and now Wilson.

Great, more Huddy crap. I thought we were over Wilson trying to hook House and Cuddy up. And Cuddy pointed out exactly why they would never work out since she is now a mom but the writers will figure out some way, I'm sure. At least Rachel showed up and Cuddy mentioned she was a mom. I thought the writers forgot about her. Although I bet Rachel doesn't show up for a long time again. I knew as soon as I heard Lucas was coming back they would use him to make House jealous, just like they used Cuddy losing the baby to make House and Cuddy kiss.

At least there was a good reason for House drugging Wilson. His saving Wilson's career was nice, even if Wilson didn't see it that way originally.

It seems like the only reason the writers had House, Wilson, and Cuddy go to this medical conference was to get them away from the hospital. The only thing they showed that had anything to do with the conference was House using Wilson's speech. And the dance served no purpose at all except to shove Huddy some more.

And just like that the patient is on the backburner again. The Huddy dance is definitely more interesting than what the show is about- the medicine (sarcasm). And how exactly did House solve the case? He wasn't up to date at all with what had happened to the patient and he just pulls the diagnosis out of thin air.

Oki the new season is more like brazilian soap opera ;/ Where are the exciting moments, the strange diseases? Where!?!?! Only interesting thing is House as himself. I am disappointed of what i watch now ;/

I dont get it why every episode is goinng to be a sick soap opera ;/ I want more of House and strange illness ;( In this episode i even didnt notice what is wrog with that girl. Nothing interesting. The most interesting part of the episode is "How to get on famous people party?" and ...mh... maybe ending was interesting but it was only 15 sec. ;(;(
  • In this episode of House a young teen ends up chasing a man who I guess created her favorite TV show or something. Also House gets a big slap in the face when he realizes that his old detective friend is with Cuddy. I didn't like this episode at all.

I honestly don't know where there going with House anymore. I've been a die hard fan for a long time now and they just keep messing this season up. I really wanted to see house actually be happy for once in his life on this TV show but i guess not. It's sad how Cuddy is dating someone that was House's friend. I don't know i hope Cuddy feels pain over this. I don't know what do you guys believe am I wrong? I don't really see House into his role of being a doctor in this season hes to busy doing other things. I really hope they fix this and give us all what we really want to see the House that produces miracles. Also i hope we can see House happy for once in his cold cold life.
