How Art Made the World is the PBS documentary series hosted by acclaimed art historian and University of Cambridge lecturer Dr. Nigel Spivey, where we investigate the role of art in our society, and how it came to be so. Each episode looks at a modern-day mystery, and Dr. Spivey leads a quest to solve it by looking at artifacts spanning 100,000 years and five continents. Spivey speaks in colorful and understandable language, using computer graphics to help demonstrate his research. He explores the essential role of art in humanity, and how the functions were necessary in early civilizations and up through today. He claims that no characteristic of humanity is more basic than the desire to make art, and tries to find answers to where these artistic inclinations came from. Are human brains hardwired to make art? Find out with Dr. Nigel Spivey and the PBS series How Art Made the World.
