Me and my mom (Andrew Lloyd Webber fans) were flipping through the channels one summer night, and we came across this program on BBC. We were in love with the show immediately! Webber decided to find a Maria for his West End production of The Sound of Music through a broadcasted talent search. I think the show ran in England in 2006. So three years after it's release, me and my mom tuned in every Sunday to see who went home and who went further in the competition. Each episode consisted of some brief background of the girls, their goals while vying for the Maria role, footage of how they were coming along with the strenuous rehearsals, they performed a song, the panel judged them, and within the same show a contestant was sent home. That's a lot for one hour and a half show! We loved it though. A great deal of the numbers chosen for the women were musical tunes, so we were in heaven! And Andrew Lloyd Webber (a musical theater god in his own right) was guiding the show all the way. At times the styling of the show was way too cheesy. I mean, the contestants were given names like "Irish Maria", "Opera Maria", "Tomboy Maria", and "Sexy Maria." That's kind of corny, isn't it? The judges were entertaining as well; John Barrowman and the other male judge were always awkwardly commenting on how certain contestants (mostly Siobhan) were very attractive. And who could forget the send-off after contestants were given the boot? "So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, good night" - How cheesy is that?! Anyways,it was all a bit overly glamorous, but if you are a musical lover this is your show!moreless
