  • It's Ted's first day as a teacher.

    9.0
    "Superb"

"Definitions" is a great season premiere of How I Met Your Mother season 5. I love how this season begins with Ted's first day of teaching. I love how Ted is in the wrong classroom and he completely embarrasses himself in front of the class. I love Lily's obsession with defining the relationship. I love how she locks Robin and Barney in a room so they can define their relationship. I love how they fake their definition of their relationship and Lily is satisfied because even though they think they're tricking Lily, Lily knows they secretly meant what they said. Did that make any sense? I give this episode a 9/10.

  • HIMYM is back

HIMYM was at one time a show I considered as the best sitcom i`ve ever watched along with Friends, I even thought the storytelling was much better than friends. But that was the first 3 season, they were simply brilliant but then came season 4. An average season with still a couple of great episodes but overall inconsistency reigned. The show was no longer fresh, most characters (apart from Barney and probably to an extent Lily) became pretty much annoying and the writing was terrible at times. So I was hoping the show would be back on track. Did it? No but still it was an enjoyable premiere.

So the Barney-Robin relationship is going to happen. It is interesting and brought some depth into the Barney character last season but to be honest, i have my reserves. While Barney was still good here, didn`t find him awesome. I fear they might change him a little bit too much.

Ted is not really the funniest character but he was pretty good in here and his scenes were mostly enjoyable.

Marshall was meh. He used to be my favorite but been pretty dull since season 3 and no, screaming not good enough while whipping won`t help imo.

Overall, it is a decent start but still the weakest premiere of the show, which is worrying. However there are new interesting angles developed here and if explored well might bring this show on track again. **Fingers cross***
  • Robin and Barney figure out what their relationship status is, while Ted struggles with the kind of prof(f..fe..ff..e?)essor he will be.

This was such a funny episode, one of my favourites so far. It had me laughing the entire time. Robin and Barney together in a relationship is so perfect in a completely messed up way. They are both horribly afraid of commitment as well as the status of boyfriend and girlfriend that they will always do anything to avoid the inevitable talk which will label them once and for all. Additionally, Ted trying to find out what kind of professor to be was very amusing and entertaining.

I really loved the way this episode was set up, it was a really good one and definitely a favourite of mine, although it may be because i am a huge fan of barney and robin's "relationship(?)"
  • I really enjoyed this one, and I seem to be the one one (or one of very few at least).

This episode featured a very interesting storyline, which made it for me, and I absolutely loved Lily breaking the door knob and locking them in there. That was terrific!

I also thought that the idea of Ted walking into the wrong lecture was hilarious, and I thought that they had executed that flawlessly, especially when he says, if you don't want to be an architect, then leave!

Robin and Barney together, I think that is great, but I wonder how long it will last.

Overall, I would recommend the episode fairly highly, but it could have been a little better. It's a worthwhile watch, but not overly spectacular, in my opinion.
  • Ted's first day as a professor.

    8.5

It seems like this show is getting back on track, a solid season opener that was genuinely funny. In this episode, we find out that Barney & Robin have started a relationship without admitting it. Marshall and Lilly urge them to have the talk and define their relationship. They end up being locked in a room together forced to have the talk by Lilly & Marshall. A hilarious situation! And I was excited seeing Barney & Robin together since we waited a whole year for this to happen. It felt relieving in a way. Like "…yes finally!" Barney realizes that she might be his girlfriend when Robin gets asked out and he ends up punching the guy that asked her, then he realizes he does all the three things he stated 4 years ago that defines that someone is in a relationship. He avoids those feelings and decides to follow Robin's lead when she says they should lie again. They lie and say they're in a relationship. They don't know they weren't lying. As they were walking on the sidewalk holding hands about to have brunch; it felt so nice. Now that we're back on track with the mother, Ted starts teaching the class where the mother is supposedly in. When he starts teaching the class on the first day, it turns out he has the wrong classroom and he goes one for half an hour on architecture when it was an economics class. Another hilarious situation and Ted taught his real class by the end. A great solid season opener, that opened up a lot of possibilities and arcs for this season. Things seem to be looking up for this show.
  • Creatively Written, Nicely Presented But Still Consists Of Many Loop Holes.

The Episode aims at ted figuring out what kind of a professor he wants to be & as well as fighting his nightmares as a student. This Gets a bit boring since most of the nightmares are quite old concepts. However In the end the Ted's Nightmare cause himself to make a fool of himself is what add a spice of laughter.

On the other hand Lily forces Barney & Robin to define their relationship. This is where all the fun lies.

The episode is a gr8 one but adding some new punches could have made it an awesome one.

From the way this season premiers, it looks we might have to wait another season for the mother or may get an overview in the last few epiosdes. Not The complete picture.

In the season five opener, Ted starts teaching an architecture class and its really an economics class but he doesn't realize it because he won't let the students talk. The gang finds out that Barney and Robin are a thing, but Barney and Robin aren't ready to become boyfriend and girlfriend yet. When Barney and Robin have sex, Lily locks Robin and Barney in the bedroom to make them have the talk about their relationship. Barney and Robin just have sex instead. But Lily says that she brought Marshall and that they would have sex too. Barney and Robin decide to just lie and say they are in a relationship just to leave to room. haha. overall good episode.

Last season was a bit of a bummer, it started well but fizzled out with about ten eps to go. The show is in a phase now where things have to happen. For starters Ted needs to find his future wife soon as the show's premise is getting lost as the years go by. This ep has some very funny moments and shows that there may still be some life in this show afterall.

This week the gang discover that Barney and Robin have been seeing one another all summer but have never defined their relationship. Lilly is desperate for them to have 'the talk' but the both of them seem too afraid to see what they are to one another. But the feelings they have reach a boiling point where Marshall's friend Brad asks Robin out to the hockey and Barney ends up punching him in the face. Soon Lilly tires of the two of them and locks them in Robin's room until they have 'the talk'.

Meanwhile, Ted is freaking out about doing his first lecture at Columbia University and has a dream that he sucks at it. The gang try to reassure him and by the time the day comes he makes a fool of himself by showing up in the wrong class. But he soon finds his class and on the fly has a great time just talking architecture with the students.

All in all this was a good ep with some really funny moments but one can't help but feel that for a series return this was rather dull and by the numbers with no real revelations or twists to make the show seem like it has a direction. My only hope is that the mother is revealed this season or there may be nothing that can salvage this show. Well NPH will probably save the show from being completely disappointing!
  • Whooo!

Robin and Barney together... that's just awesome! I was afraid the writers would ruin them or on the contrary not deal with them but it seems like them as a couple will be just great.

The lying thing is a good idea, even though it can remind us of Chandler and Monica on Friends. But I feel like it will allow some great stories around that.

It was great to see all the gang together again and their chemistry is still there.

I found it hilarious when Ted gave had his first class and didn't know he was in the wrong room. It was really well played because we had no idea what was coming ahead.

Finally, kuddos on Lily who got Robin and Barney locked in a room. It was very funny to see her assess their opinions on their own relationship.
  • Least funny of all CBS' comedy lineups

    5.9
    "Mediocre"
HIMYM has been CBS' version of NBC's Office. Both shows have had a disastrous previous season. And both shows really couldn't ramp up interest with their new season openers.

Not to completely discredit the writing, I must admit there were a few instances that were actually funny like the part where Ted struggles to spell out professor. I used to enjoy scenes where 30 year old men hang out in the bar and behave like douches, but now even that has become way too stale and predictable. I'm talking about things like the fedora and the whip. Barney who is usually the saving grace of the show has become unusually annoying ever since he fell in love with Robin. The show has simply lost it. Or I guess it has run its course.

This was a good start for the new season. Barney and Robin have done the easy part but now it's time for both of them to do the hard part which is defining the relationship. As we see both of them are sort of on neutral now their moving but not really going foward or anywhere fast. And that's because both are too use to being non commited they never really had anything serious before (well except Robin).

As we see things start getting messy and confusing for both of them. I loved that part just when Robin was going to kiss a person she doesn't care about on the public screen of the Hockey game, Barney steps in and punches the guy out of jeliousy. Unfortunately it was an ineffective punch and we see Barney wimping out, fighting is obviously not one of Barney's best attributes.

Lily was right about the both of them they can't stay neutral forever otherwise they'll wind up hurting each other, let alone really mapped the future of herself with Robin when commited in that funny scene when Lily was crying and pouting when her hopes of that future were dashed and like any depressed person just ate ice cream. Her plan to get both of them to talk was a good one let alone ironically refelcted where both Barney and Robin are at, in a way it's sort of a game of Password since both Barney and Robin have to produce the right results for them to get out. I thought it was hillarous whenever their answer was wrong, Marchall would shout out something and then crack the whip.

Even liked that subplot with Ted, I don't blame him for his nerviousness it is the same as anyone that has to deliver a speach to a large audience, the last thing you want to happen is to screw up. Ted's nightmare unfortunately comes true when for some reason he gets into the wrong class and screws up. But at least three good things came out of it, 1. At least those first 7 mins Ted conducted weren't boring. 2. The experence got him to at least let go of the fear and conduct his real class the right way. 3. We know the mom was there in that class at the time, wonder what she thought of Ted?

In the end Barney and Robin did have the talk, they claim that they lied to Marchall, Lily, and Ted that their offically boyfriend and girlfriend but aren't. But we know those three aren't fooled and nor are we because the joke is on Barney and Robin they are a couple whether they accept that or not.

A great episode to start a great season . i am glad to see that the plot advances really fast on this season after the rather slow 4 season .barney and robbin are just great together (last scene were they walk together , ,great) and who ever disagreas is blind . ted as a professor is awesome and marshall is back ! as a great dude as he was in the first two seasons Robin and Barney resist their friends' pressure that they should have "the talk" about their relationship. Meanwhile, a panicky Ted, about to face his first college class, decides he must keep control of his students by releasing his "inner douche", a tactic that backfires miserably Awesome
  • Barney and Robin's clandestine relationship finally comes out in the open. Lilly is so happy. Unfortunately Robin and Barney refuse to have the talk! Lilly is bound and determined to make them do it. Ted is starting his first day teaching at college.

A strong first episode of the season. Very entertaining with some nice storylines. Barney and Robin have been having a three month long affair and they have been hiding it from everyone else. This goes on until everyone walks in on the them making out. Ted is starting his first semester as a teacher in college.

The Robin and Barney story is awesome! They actually do look pretty good together and Cobie Smulders as Robin does an excellent job picking up on the Barney lingo. Not until Lilly takes the door knob off their door does she get them to talk things over. They of course decide to lie to everyone and tell them that they are together. Of course they aren't lying to anyone but themselves. As they go off to have brunch they are holding hands and obviously are very happy.

Ted is so fearful of his first day that he is picturing a catastrophe. Barney gives him some pointers but they are obviously not the right ones. Matter of fact he goes on in front of a class for ten minutes making a fool of himself as he is teaching Architecture 101 and the class he is in front of is Economics 305. No worries though as soon as he gets to the right class he is off and running as a really good teacher trying to do his best. He was just over thinking everything.

Great start to the season with strong dialogue, good stories, and entertaining acting. Nice to see the lead off to the new CBS Monday night comedy block get off to a great start. Thanks for reading...

This episode was so good!!! As a season opener it really felt like almost nothing had changed in the show, and with HIMYM that's a good thing. All of the jokes were spot on, the acting was great, and the only awkward part was supposed to be awkward. First and foremost the running gags throughout this series really make it unique and memorable, so when they pretended to show the mother but then pulled away, it was great! then there was the "oh and by the way, that's not your mother" bit, which has been done several times throughout the five seasons of this show.

    *Spoilers*

    Teds story-

So it's time for ted to start teaching!! in the same classroom as the Mother!!! Awesome. This starts out great and gets even better! First, everyone pitches in and buys Ted a fedora and whip, indiana jones style (Marshals "favorite professor") which was a perfect beginning to the season. Next he has a dream where he's teaching for the first time, and it does not go so well as he does not have any pants (a reference to Marshal forgetting his pants in season 4?) and his story all culminates when he gets to school and starts teaching the wrong class! This was superbly acted by Josh Radnor, pulled off with quintessential Tedness. Oh T-dog, why wouldnt you check the room number?

    Robin/Lily/Barney/Marshal-

While some people do not like the Bobin relationship, I think it was pulled off pretty well here. They pretty much hooked up all summer which is what both of them really love to do, so that's awesome! but when Barney punched that dude at the hockey game it was AMAZING! plus Marshal cracking the whip and his screams of "Not Good Enough!!!" brought me to my knees. One of the best parts of this side of the episode came when Bobin slipped a note under the door to lily describing what they are as "Barman and Robin," however there were many more, including Barney's "door five" to Ted and of course the obnoxiously cute ending where Robney walk off to get brunch together. Of course it's so cute that it's sickening! that's why we watch the show! We know that know matter what happens in any given episode this show is still a love story, plain and simple. And that's what makes this show great.

Not a bad start to season 5. After spending all of season 4 trying to turn Ted into the biggest D-Bag this side of anybody who's ever been on camera on the Hills, I found myself laughing at his great reaction to the gift from his best friends, who really "get" him after all, and it was just the start. Oddly enough there was nothing in this episode that really seems to stick with me I find myself satisfied. Again, after most of season 4 (with a few good exceptions) I didn't expect much from this episode but I'm happy to say that it's a great example of why I do and forever will love this show. Not exactly my best or most in depth review ever but it's still a good example of this.
