Could There be a Spinoff or Continuation?:

if How I Met Your Mother, as we know it, comes to an end in the next couple of years, is there room for some sort of continuation? Said Bays, "That's come up. We've had general conversations about rewinding to 2005 and then doing a series called How I Met Your Father, clearly from the perspective of what was happening with the mother all those years. And occasionally she'll stumble through MacLaren's and you'll see people in the background." Bays stressed, "We've joked about that… but maybe let's do that!"

This is a quotation from a great article from IGN. This is from TCA that took place earlier this week.

Pretty funny idea in my opinion, but obviously it's not likely to happen. I personally think it would be pretty interesting seeing what kind of spinoffs or continuations they could come up with.

Here's the full article. It discusses casting of the mother, how the ending reaction from the kids has already been filmed, and more.

In the past I've been on board with that idea but given the way the story is going I'd rather they just get on with it and end with S8.

An episode or two at the very most to her side of the story MIGHT work if she's introduced soon and they save it for just before or after Ted proposes but beforetheirwedding. That would be good timing, she could tell Ted or her kids about her past relationships how they fell in love with her and why those relationships never worked, maybe the one person she said no to when she was proposed to (or even even got married to if you want two episodes to get whoever the story is being told to feelweird)

I say end it with season 8, which I feel was the original plan. I'd rather get a good ending for a show that I like, than see it dragged out into a mess which quickly ends up cancelled, just cause they think they can still make some more money out of it. *cough*Supernatural*chough*

i don't thinki could handlle an entire show about that, but they could totally devote an episode to this idea near the end of the series. The perspective from the mother would be hilarious.

Why do I get the feeling that any perspective from the mother's side would be short and sweet?

"You haven't heard enough of this story? All right... I met your father at a wedding. Now, get washed up for dinner."

They might allude to this in the season final as a bit of a joke, perhaps?!
