Marshall goes to his father's grave for New Year's Day tailgating; Barney and Ted open a bar; Robin fills in for a news anchor.

(I thought Ted and Barney decided that running a bar would be too hard in "Three Days of Snow.")

Ted also had a skyscraper that was being built but disappeared.
Tony, Stella left on good terms with Ted yet he got completely screwed over with The Wedding Bride.
Punchy's father died but was at the wedding.
Lily was estranged from her father yet he threw his back out at her wedding.
Robin still seemed to visit her father often despite it being a rocky relationship
    There are many more

and the most confusing of the lot

Lily asks her Obstetrician if it was OK to drink some Alcohol during pregnancy despite her saying she gave it up to optimise their chances to conceive

My point is HIMYM is no longer as continuity conscious as it once was. Which is a shame because it once had a fantastic track record for stuff like that.

I think the skyscraper one is the most confusing one. The Lily one isn't really one that bothers me. It could just easily be that Lily missed drinking, didn't want to wait nine more months, but didn't want to negatively affect the baby, so she asked a professional if she could have some without any complications.

As for this episode, hoping it's a good one. We left off with a really great episode, let's pick up on the same quality, at least.

I felt like this episode went by really quickly. It was like they wee starting a bunch of different story lines but not really going deeply into them. There was a lot going on.

I liked the flashback near the end where Marshall was compared to his father. It was also interesting seeing how Robin will become the co-anchor. The funniest part was when in the theme song Barney was like "And we bang chicks in Ted's room" :p

Overall a pretty average episode. I checked www.puzzlesthebar.com and there wasnt anything there.

Very average episode. On paper, it was OK, but it was just average.

I do like Alexis Denisof, so that's always a highlight for me. And, I liked the ending with Lily's dad showing up with the teddy bear. I also like Marshall realizing that he's like his dad. That was sweet.

But, I could really care less about the Puzzles storyline, because it kept bothering me that the show didn't remember that Ted and Barney didn't even like running a bar for a couple hours--even though they referenced the "We should buy a bar!" "We should TOTALLY buy a bar! And the name of the bar? Puzzles! Why's it called 'Puzzles'? That's the puzzle!" conversation. They remembered the conversation, didn't remember the episode.

And that drove me nuts. To the point where I was just wanting that storyline to get over with. (Of course, it also bothered me that the hats were wet. Why were the hats wet?)

    Just very average episode.

I loved the episode. I was interested in every storyline, and Marshall's flashback about his dad was awesome. Does anyone know a place where I can listen to Puzzles' theme song again?

There were a few funny moments (Mostly Sandy) here and there but the first 2/3 really dragged.

But I think the ending really saved this one. Liked the moment with Marshall being like his dad, Robin taking on the new year by the horns and the ending with Lily's Dad was really nice.

This one gets a thumbs up for me. Hopefully s7 has turned it around now.

The show is back to funny which I'm so grateful for. I've been not enjoying Season 7, not hating it but not enjoying it. Now I'm loving it again. The interruptions of Marshall were annoying but if that's the price I had to pay for the sweet scene at the end then I'd pay twice over again.

I love that Robin has realized she wants to be back on air again. She loved it and then somehow it wasn't a dream of hers anymore. I loved her speech about the new year. Very touching.

To the people who complained that Barney and Ted didn't learn their lesson about runninga bar I say the group NEVER learns their lessons. Robin blackslides with both of her exes, multiple times with Ted. In Season one they learn that clubs aren't awesome, they aren't even okay. However they still go to them and know a lot about them. The gang doesn't learn and we don't want them to. It keeps things interesting. It's like Barney and all his rules. Stuff gets said but Barney does whatever he really wants. The gang is the same way. LOVED the puzzle theme song. I like how Kevin keeps trying to be apart of the group. I wonder how much longer he'll be around.

I'm glad they are redeeming Lily's Dad. All the stuff he did to her and the things that went wrong, Lily deserves better and it looks like now he's going to try and get things right. Favorite joke from that storyline was,
Marshall: I believe in you Lily.
Lily: Great then that means I probably don't exist.

    Great one.

I loved whoever has their signature read "No one reads signatures." That was great.

And you call yourselves HIMYM fans...

Ok, Ted built a skyscraper. It did not disappear, it's just you aren't seeing it because it's not relevant to the story. It was relevant in so far as it could as well have been the reason Ted could get a job as a professor. Then, what happened with the Wedding Bride has nothing to do with how they all parted ways. Tony was always a douche, and just because Ted and he did not have some fight or what have you does not mean Tony wouldn't take advantage of him for his own gain. As for Lily's father i again don't see the relevance of his being estranged for long time. Bear in mind the story is a long flashback, not every hole is filled when you're talking 25 years later. That also goes for punchy. As for Robin, your comments start to worry me. You can't speak about continuity and then cite personal preferences. If you would not wish as Robin wishes that's actually your choice, but it is perfectly logical to want to visit your father even in that situation. Finally, there is no discontinuity with Lilly. She wanted to conceive easier, and she did. Thus, the purpose of giving up has been fulfilled.

for the last, Ted and Barney never said they would never run a bar, just that it is hard.

    So there

I understand where marshal is coming from I lost my father a few years ago and when it happen I felt a connection to him for months afterward he passed. But slowly the feeling faded away and it made his death even more depressing even now I get moments of complete loneliness and lost even more so in the holidays and birthdays but lucky for him he has people around him that shows him nothing but love and respect the feeling of losing a father is one of the worst things and since he lost his father it brings back a floods of memories for me
