  • Barney gets a call from a girl who thinks she's pregnant.

"Not a Father's Day" is a great How I Met Your Mother episode. I love the beginning of this episode where Barney explains The Cheerleader Effect, where a group of people look hot, but as individuals, each one has a flaw. I love how a girl calls thinking she's pregnant with Barney's baby. I love how Barney is excited once he finds out that she's not pregnant. The only thing I didn't care for was "Not a Father's Day". It was just stupid and not funny. I love the Lily and Marshall plot of wanting to have a baby. I love how Lily gets so drunk that she acts like a baby and Marshall has to take care of her.

  • Worst How I Met Your Mother episode ever

First of all I have to say I absolutely LOVE How I Met Your Mother: The writing along with the acting is incredible in my opinion. But this might really be the worst episode of this show I've ever seen. Lily and Marshall see themselves confronted with the decision whether to have a baby or not. Barney cracks some mediocre jokes and Ted continues to be whiney and cheesy. The writing of this episode is comparable with Two And A Half Men : Overacting and unfunny slapstick included.

I can not understand the people here giving it good grades. It was awful.
  • Lily decides she wants to have a baby.

Okay, I will attempt to come up with some positives for this episode. Barney in church talking to God, Barney's shirts and Dan Lauria from The Wonder Years as Nolan. The bad? Just about everything else.

Robin with her unbearable attempt to be Tina Fey and the even worse Lily being the centerpiece of this episode. Remember last season's debacle with the Lily's painting? The same episode where Ted had the red boots?

Not only was it bad but this episode officially jumped the shark for How I Met Your Mother, if it had not already. Lily running around drunk during the business meeting and Marshall dressing up in wigs pretty much sent Fonzy on his jet ski over the water.
  • Lily thinks about having a baby...

Many think that this episode is Jumping the shark, but the writers are kind of forced to make Lily pregnant due to her real life pregnancy.

A lot of people think HIMYM is going downhill...due to its more dramatic tone towards the end of season 3 and now season 4. I see the change in tone, but it isnt a bad thing. The show is probably going to end soon and i think its important to start making the show a little bit more dramatic instead of just random silly crap over and over because the characters are getting older and more mature and ted is probably very close to meeting the mother

With that said I thought this episode was, not the best of the season but not the worst. There were a few moments that just fell flat on their faces but there were a lot of moments that shined. Good episode

This one is broody like none of the others. It is probably best to cycle through how each character deals with the issue:

Barney: By far the best of the lot, even though he had minimal screen time (again!). His close shave with parenthood and subsequent church-based-release and then the sock moment and soul-wrenching karaoke were all touched by Legendary.

Marshall: Liked the idea, but then nursing a drunk Lilly and an insane job made him realise that it was best postponed.

Robin: Her fear of the little buggers was very well written.

Ted: A father-figure know-it-all. You know, this character has SO much potential. Shame about the shocking "acting".

An unusually soulful episode with appropriate funny.

Its hard to pen down this installment as a typical HIMYM showpiece. However, this one wasn't that painful to watch either. The show kicks off with Barney freaking out on the news that he might be the father a child with one the woman he slept with. This leaves Marshall and Lily contemplating on having a kid. Ted and Robin were more or less underutilized in this Lily centric storyline. There were some quantifiable number of funny moments, some of which include - Barney's conversation with God, Robin's fear of toddlers, and the cheerleader concept. Some other moments, such as Not a Fathers day, Lily barging into Marshall's workplace were not at all funny. Well, I did like the part where the Asian guy says - 'did anyone see a naked chick'. That was pretty much the only line I burst out laughing.

An average 30 minutes for a show decaying over the passage of time.
  • Lily and Marshall deal with the idea of having a baby, Ted and Robin debate on what having kids does to you and Barney celebrates a rather unusual occasion in his life.

This is the first genuinely hilarious episode i've seen this season. Extremely well written and directed to begin with, it only helped that Alysson, Jason Siegel and NPH were in top-form with their respective characters. Lily drunk and baby-like in her actions was something only the excessively cute Ms. Hannigan could have pulled off so well. Marshall juggling work and a sexually charged and oh-so-drunk wife was a treat to watch (not to mention his special appearance in both the 'cheerleader-effect' groups!!!)

Neil was effing brilliant - nothing short of perfection. He was teeming with creative energy in this episode.
  • Barney maybe a father, which gets Marshall and Lily thinking about having a baby, and Lily turns to Ted and Robin to help make the decision. Barney creates a holiday to celebrate not being a father.

    Happy Not A Father's Day!!

I have to say one of my favorite aspects of HIMYM is when they use another seemingly innocent word in the place of a more risque one, case in point 'dinner' for 'sex'. In this case they took it one step further by offering an extra joke the whole spicy pork inuendo. That being said, drunk Lily might be better than angry Ted, this is the second incident where she really let loose, the first being her wedding, and now her baby discussion. Watching her go down the hallway on a desk chair with a fire extinguisher and then going down naked, props to the Asian business man for noticing. Also props to bringing Dan Lauria Jack Arnold, The Wonder Years) as Marshall and Barney's boss at Goliath National Bank.

Robin and Ted had an interesting conversation about children, listing the pros and cons, and when they arrive at the bar their witty back and forth comebacks about Ted being a woman and Robin being heartless were great, it is why I love them, they are so mismatched. Barney stooped to a new low this week, he invented a holiday to celebrate being single, wow. There were greeting cards and gifts and a fraternity of bros who at first glance were awesome, but then the cheerleader affect kicked in and poor Barney realized his holiday was not so awesome. The scene where he is praying and answers his phone and then leaves after finding out he is not a dad was priceless.

In the end no one was having a baby or at least was planning to...
  • A well produced episode to say the least.

Marshall and Lily consider whether or not they’re ready to have a baby. After deciding they’re ready, Lily panics and turns to Ted and Robin for advice since they have very different points of view on the subject. And, after finding out he’s not going to be a father, Barney creates "Not A Father's Day," a new holiday that celebrates single guys everywhere. The whole cheerleade effect bit was hilarious and the ending with Barney and the sock was just hysterical and im glad to see Barney has a heart. Other than that it was a good and funny episode but nothing out of the ordinary for HIMYM.

I liked this episode, it was just an episode free from all the different arcs, and it just stood well on its own. It's definitely a breath of fresh air, not having the Stella drama in an episode; you see that HIMYM has gotten back to the norm. We see Lilly & Marshall in their new apartment, which is always great to see. We finally get a pregnancy scare with Barney. With all the girls he sleeps with, I'm surprised this didn't happen a long time ago. Anyways he thinks he might become a father, which leaves Marshall & Lilly thinking that they might want to have kids. Marshall is set on the decision, as they're about to conceive, Robin interrupts them, and it turns out she is living with them now. Marshall has a big meeting to go to, while Lilly doubts the idea of having kids so she turns to Ted & Robin for consolation. Robin is anti-baby, and Ted is being supportive, while all of this is happening, Lilly gets wasted and crashes Marshall's meeting, Marshall comes in to realization that taking care of a baby is harder than it looks when he has to take care of Drunk Lilly all night while juggling work. Favorite line from this episode: Guy on monitor: "Did anyone else see the drunk chick?" Lilly & Marshall decide not to have kids by the end, hopefully someday though. Robin & Ted playfully tease each other throughout the episode while looking for Lilly. Then Ted suggests that Robin should live with him while she's unemployed since he has an extra room. Now it's all starting to piece together. Since we found out that on Ted's 31st birthday, Robin is living with him. This is toward the end of the season. Barney finds out that the girl is not pregnant, so he creates Not A Father's Day. I loved the Cheerleader Theory, they look hot together in a group but individually, they look horrid. Three plots were all great. A great formulaic episode.

This was one amaing episode of How I Met Your Mother, and certainly one that I enjoyed that a lot. The storyline with the babies were certainly amazing and quite funny!

Marshall and Lily deciding to have a baby was quite great, although it sadly didn't work out that way, at the end.

Barney's idea of 'Not A Father's Day' was funny and great, and it certainly added another dimenision to this episode. I really enjoyed that, and it made the episode really funny!

Ted and Robin's debate about childeren was also great, and that was quite hilarious as well, particularly when things got a little heated!

Overall, definitely a funyn and hilarious episode! I really enjoyued it, and I can't wait for some more !
