  • Ted has party and 2 more

    8.0

The second episode of this series brought some laughter, but it was not as good as the pilot. Some common themes in this episode that happened in the whole series happened in this episode. While Ted is a great character, he does have douchey side. You see it when Ted is planning the parties for Robin. Also another reason why she is NOT the mother. You also see Lilly's "friendlessness" is also displayed. I think it's funny that future Ted does not go into details about it. also a common theme. I also like how Marshall refers to himself as the "the kid." I also like how Robins ends up joining up the group at the end.
  • Ted tries to "casually" throw three parties to win the heart of a Robin.

Ted has been a little uncomfortable ever since his blurting of "I think I'm in love with you." to Robin after only their first date, when she makes it clear she's not ready to get married now or even ever, which is the exact opposite of what Ted wants. Robin and Lily run into each other and Robin says the only thing she could handle at the moment would be some sort of casual relationship, and Ted can do casual, or so he says. He invites her to a party he schedules at the spot for next Friday. Sorry, if only it were this Friday. Oh did I say next Friday, I meant tonight. (Friday) Robin doesn't show up, and apologizes that her job kept her from coming. Ted "casually" says it's okay, and the same thing happens Saturday when he throws another spontaneous party. So he schedules a party for Sunday, in which only about a dozen people attend, including Robin. Then he screws himself when he says these parties weren't for her, but so he could set her up with a random guy. (Carlos) His friends tell him he was stupid and he goes back out on the roof and they make out. They look good together, but Robin gives a good explanation of why they can't be together. (for now) In the B plot, Marshall has to fight distractions - the parties and Lily's sex drive - to finish a 25-paper with something to do in becoming a lawyer. After writing it in one night, he surprisingly gets a B-. Impressive work, dude. I thought this was a great episode.
  • Ted keeps throwing parties until Robin shows up to one of them.

"Purple Giraffe" is an awesome How I Met Your Mother episode. In this episode, Ted keeps throwing parties until Robin shows up. I love how Robin and Ted become friends in this episode. And I love how Robin becomes friends with Lily in this episode. It was so funny when Marshall was trying to get his assignment finished and there were too many distractions for him. Barney was funny in this episode. This girl wants a relationship, so he tells her that he's in love with her, so she'll stop wanting to have a relationship with him. I give this episode a 9/10.
  • Oh my gosh, brilliant.

One of the catches I've always been hearing about How I Met Your Mother is the continuous use of inside jokes from one episode to another. It's only the second episode and jokes from the first episode are already transferring over to this one. The whole set up of this episode is just great. Ted throws party after party just so he can see Robin and there are just too many shenanigans that happens inbetween it would only mean spoiling the meat. Though just touching upon the surface of it, it's like a joke within a joke; the whole "Carlos" thing and "Carlos' girl", the roof, it's amazing how the writers were able to structure the writing so well to fit in all in a meager half hour. Absolutely brilliant writing.
  • three parties for one girl -- isn't that romantic?

    9.5
    "Superb"
Ted still has feelings for Robin, and it makes him to throw "not one, not two, but three parties" to see her again. well, it doesn't really work, 'coz, you know, Ted and Robin want different things: he wants a family, she wants nothing serious... but this episode marks the beginning of "hilarious five" friendship :) plus, there is the great example for guys who are gonna break up with the girl they don't wanna be with -- "just tell her you love her on the next day after your meeting". be careful, though, some girls will love it :)

FAVE SCENE: Ted's "plan" of behavior when Robin shows up at the party.

FAVE QUOTE: Ted (about Robin): I can't ask her out! 'Cause if I ask her out, I'm asking her out! So how do I ask her out without asking her out?
  • It's a logical continuation to the pilot, but not as good as the pilot.

While not as good as the pilot, this is still a very good episode. Ted throws three parties to hit on Robin, but in the end they end up just being friends.

While the main story is funny it's not that special, and the best parts of this episode is Barney's story, and the Marshall, Lily and Ted interactions in the apartment when there's no party (especially when they sit on the couch in the mornings after the parties).

It's nice to get what seems to be a logical end to the whole Ted/Robin lovestory (even though the writers didn't agreed wit hme and brought it back up later in the season).
  • Still not excellent but getting better

    8.6
    "Great"
This episode is better than the pilot in my opinion because it develops the story very well and marks Ted’s first step forward in getting over the Aunt Robyn and starting towards the road which will eventually lead him to wind up with his kids’ mother.

The laugh track was also better used in this episode because it seemed to be used in scenes with a funny line but not one worthy of a laugh in the pilot.

The plot of the episode with the three casual parties being thrown just so he can see Robyn was a brilliant storyline with great moments throughout, aswell as the works with Carlos girl and horny Lily subplots.

Overall, this was a great follow up to the first episode and the series seems to be getting better.
  • After meeting Robin, Ted throws a party in hopes of seeing her again.

This is a very special episode in the relationship of Ted and Robin. It shows how Ted wants something serious rather than casual, and the start of a numerous times Robin must incorprate with. As an 8.8 rating in my case, this is a very good episode as well as the showing that Marshall is a devoted law student, and how Barney takes to a hardcore relationship; which is not so good. Anyway, its a great season opener, and I have hopes in seeing another episode like this; a situation where all people, adult and children, collide in a mixture of love and insulting.
  • It ended pretty good and emotions showed for me, but it wasn't great.

It ended pretty good and emotions showed for me, but it wasn't great. I hope that this show would improve because I believe in this show, I believe that they would be able to produce great episodes, but they did have some improvements when it comes to word usage, it was pretty good:)
  • The boy who wanted the purple giraffe a lot...

    8.9
    "Great"
And then, he just gets stuck in the toy machine. Robin is there to cover the story, is that the great opportunity for Ted to ask her out again? Maybe, maybe not. After the "I love you." fiasco, it would be a little hard and it is, indeed. So why not throw a party? Parties are casual, you can just hang out casually, make Robin jealous, right? Not if she doesn`t show up. The episode shows how much Ted cares for Robin and how bad he wants to meet her again. Throwing parties three nights in a row for her is just impressing. The ending is great, emotional, yet kinda funny.
  • Another good episode.

In a desperate attempt for a second date, Ted invites Robin to a party he is throwing. However, she doesn't show up and he keeps throwing parties in the hopes she will finally arrive. Another good episode. I'm starting to get into How I Met Your Mother. So, I'm guessing we dont find out the "Mother" until the end of the whole show, bit I like it. I love the characters, Barney is the best, he is so funny. I also love Ted too. And I can't wait to watch more episode from How I Met Your Mother, bring it on!
  • Another review.

Like I said in my last How I met your mother review I just started watching this show, I know shame on me for not watching it sooner but better late than never right? Right, so this episode in my opinoin was slightley better than the first, Marshall got a bit more screen time here and he was great, the plot was funny and original and Barney is a total legend. Great start to this show in my opinoin it could be a future favourite show I'm watching here. Cant wait to see more of the gang and I'm starting to get addicted to this.
  • Three parties.

    9.3
    "Superb"
I love the editing of this episode, and definitely the concept. Robin is Ted's purple giraffe. Robin covers a news report covering a boy who really wanted a purple giraffe so he climbed in the machine and got one, but got stuck in the machine. Ted, like the boy, loses the giraffe so he climbs in to get it, only to get stuck in the "machine". I'm not sure what machine compares too in Ted's case. Maybe it's the friends zone. But the similarities on one small scene, and the plot for the whole episode amazed me.

The episode starts out with Ted wanting to be casual with Robin and not be too clingy, since Lilly heard from Robin that she doesn't want anything serious. So Ted plans a fake party, when she doesn't show up, he plans another. She doesn't show up to that one, so he finally plans one that she goes to, only to find out Ted planned three parties for her which is well... not casual. Meanwhile Marshall tries to get a paper done, but either Ted or Lilly interrupts him on writing it. Barney meets a girl at the party, and when she starts to be attached, he did what Ted did in the pilot. "I think I'm in love with you." Funniest scene of the episode! A great episode overall, definitely gave some closure to the whole Ted/Robin relationship, well at least for now. And Robin gets introduced in to Ted's group. For me, this is where the show really begins. Amazing episode, and follow up to the pilot.
  • I loved hat! Amazing episode!

I really enjoyed this one, and I thought it was really great. The storyline was quite well thought out and it was quite great. I really liked the idea of tha t kid going after that purple girafe and getting caught in that claw machine game!

Thre three parties for Robin was quite romantic and quite unusual! Poor old Marshall paid the price wit h his assessment/assignment, but it was certainly a great concept, particularly the 'Sunday' party, and the Carlos storyline!

Overall, a really funny episode, and one that I really loved! Would highly recommend it, and can't wait for some more! Keep it up, How I Met Your Mother! !
  • Worst episode of the series yet, (up to and including zip, zip, zip) because the plot is just so fucking lame with the three parties and the stupid and so predictable storyline.

Sounds like something out of a really lame sit-com like friends, where its just so predictable it hurts to watch it. As always there were some good parts but as usual Neil Patrick-Harris has to step in and save the episode by introducing a few elements of comedy. He is by far the greatest character on the show, the rest are all basically filler characters even when Josh Radnor is supposed to be the main character all i\'m really watching is NPH. Alyson Hannigan basically shouldn\'t even be on the show because her character has no funny lines if it wasn\'t for her marrying Jason Segel\'s character there would be no Lily... and i would rejoice.

I was expecting something new after such an ending in the Pilot episode. Who is "the mother" then? will we ever meet her? or maybe this is a diversion way since the mother is maybe robin... no, can't be, she's the aunt... did he wed his roomate's fiancée? ohhhh I sure have too much imagination!
  • I personally found it a bit more enjoyable than the pilot...

In my opinion, "Purple Giraffe" was a great follow-up to the pilot episode. Ted, desperate for a second date with Robin, throws a party and invites her. She doesn't show up due to work, so he throws a second one. Once more, she isn't able to show. But the third time is the charm, and she finally arrives for the third party. Unwilling to admit that he threw the party for her, he tells her that he wanted to her to meet someone and introduces her to a random guy.

Later, on the "magical" roof, he is honest with her about everything. She tells him that she really likes him but she can't stay with him, because she would feel like she'd either have to marry him or break his heart. But they remain friends and she tries to help him find someone.

The episode was great. Funny and charming. There were great moments with the supporting characters and I'm starting to really like Ted. And as always, Alyson Hannigan is the definition of cute.
  • Party Trifecta!

    8.6
    "Great"
Ted throws, not one but three parties (the great party trifecta) for the chance that Robin will show. Ted is on a mission to show Robin that he can be a 'casual' friend and not someone that wants to marry her tomorrow. The ultimate destination for the evening is the roof (the roof, the roof, the roof is on fire), where he can romance Robin. When she finally shows up on the third night, it is brought to her attention that the parties were thrown for her. Robin and Teb unite on the roof, but not for any romance. Robin isn't ready to commit to any type of relationship, especially a serious one. They decide that they are going to be "just friends" although they both feel the pull of attraction towards each other. With their dynamic relationship I am excited to see if they can stay "just friends".
  • Poor excuse for a second episode...

    5.6
    "Mediocre"
I really didn’t enjoy this episode that much, although I certainly tried. There were a few laughs but not enough for me to really feel like this was a great follow up episode to a pretty good pilot. Even Neil Patrick Harris wasn’t as funny as he could have been, in my opinion. The show seemed very uneven to me, and it’s going to have to try harder if it wants to succeed for the rest of the season. Also, even though it’s supposed to be about how Ted met the mother of his children, it’s seemingly is focusing too much on everything else in his life and not about meeting her. Although, I shouldn’t be so cruel to it as it is just the second episode. I am beginning to wonder if we will ever figure out how he met his wife this season at all.
  • Ted throws three parties in a row for Robin (which I think is worth!), and she ultimately attends the third. Ted's imitation of 'casual-attitude' is very funny. Finally, the episode ends with a new friendship bond between Ted & Robin .

The show is turning out to be really nice. Filled with comedy right from the first episode, I believe this show will continue to excel for a long time. The cast of the show is very good. Cobie Smulders looks very pretty. Personally, I'd continue to watch the show for her!
  • "The roof is where magic happens!"

    8.9
    "Great"
While I was a little disappointed with the first ep, this one really came through for me.

Although the primary reason I decided to give this show a shot was Alyson Hannigan, I have surprised even myself at how much I am loving Neil Patrick Harris ("Suit Up!") The dude is just freaking hilarious.

I am finding the character of Lily to be okay – nothing great, but not terrible. I don’t think (at least so far) that they are anywhere near Alyson’s talent level. I went into it sort of expecting Lily to be just like Willow – but she’s not. At all. What that shows me is that Alyson has so much more talent than just playing Willow. And showing people that was probably her goal in taking on a role so opposite than her previous role. Worth noting is that Brenden’s character on Kitchen Confidential is almost exactly like Xander Harris – at least so far and for me personally, that’s not a bad thing. (and given that these two shows are on at the same time – thank God for Tivo).

This episode focuses on Ted trying so hard to get together with Robin, yet make it look like a casual think in her eyes. So he throws the three-day party. Hilarious. Especially funny was the whole “Who’s Carlos?” side-plot. Carlos ends up being a bit of a hottie, and on the roof with Robin. I thought that to be a little strange, since Robin seems a lot more mature and grounded than a random hook-up.

Other side-plots included the kid stuck in the claw machine and peeing all over the animals. Wonder why they couldn’t just bust open the machine and get him out? And of course, Lily’s vamped up sex-drive since she’s gotten the engagement ring. Poor Lily. She has no clue what a few years of marriage will do to her super sex life.

Lastly, let me say that I find the beginning and ending of the show – the parts with the kids and an unseen Ted – to be just stupid. I hope they change it up somehow in the future.

I give this episode 4 out of 5 happy babies.

  • A perfect romantic comedy. The televison needs more classics like this one!

The episode contiuned where the pilot left off. The jokes got even better in this second episode, I remember laughing my lungs out on two or three jokes, they were really original. I don't have to write about cast, they did a perfect job once again, all of them, miss Smulders especially.

Basicly, this sitcom is all about longing for love, which was also the main reason for the success of ''Friends''. In comparison to Friends, How I Met Your Mother is very alike, maybe lacking the casual Joey-Chandler jokes, but it's more interesting from romantic perspective since everything is about Ted and Robin falling in love.

I hope this show survives the first season, it's a classic among bad-joke-sitcoms with absolutely no feeling for romance!
  • This episode was just terrible. Predictable from beginning to end. This isn't going to help this show's already slim chance of survival.

Wow. This episode was really awful. It was hokey and predictable from beginning to end. How did they get so many people to show up for a party in two hours? I predicted all of the major plot points. Saw them coming from miles away. The Lily subplot was so terribly done that I had to change the channel when it came on. And when all of those predictable moments finally happened, I switched over to \"Wife Swap\". Terrible show.
  • I truly like this show!

I really like this show. It is funny and it's not really like any other show on T.V. You really want to know who he ends up with and how. I love Neil Patrick Harris in this. He thinks he's cool, but he is a big dork in so many ways. And Alyson Hannigan is great. A little dirty, and she adds the necessary splash of feminism to the group, but at the same time, she is so one of the guys. I hope this show does well and can come back next season.
