  • Unique and funny. I am very afraid it will be cancelled before enough people catch on to it.

I really enjoy this show. Have only been a handful of episodes so far, but I am hooked. Definitely think people should check it out. Neil Patrick Harris is surprisingly funny, and makes a great sidekick.

Allyson Hannigan is also very clever. The reason I first watched this is because I am a closet Buffy fan, but continue to watch because it is genuinely a good show.

  • This is a great show. Haaaave you met Ted?

This show is one of my favourites. Ted is explaining to his children how he met their mother. His friends are always trying to hook him up with women, but none of them end up being his true love. If you ask me, he should be with the first one he met. (What was her name again? Was it Jennifer?) Well anyways, this is a great new show and you should check it out if you haven't yet!
  • Well-played, my friend, well-played

I find myself enjoying this show more and more as the season progresses. I think the premise is interesting, which is always a good start. The first few episodes were fairly uneven. However, the show has consistently improved, both in making melaugh and plotlines. Here's hoping it continues its upswing!

Note: The psyching CD in the New Year's episode is awesome. So true, so true.
  • Although I did not have such an interesting group of friends growing up... I can definetely live vicariously through them.

There are three shows in Prime Time that make me laugh out loud, pretty much throughout the whole episode. Although this show isn't one of them, It's possibly just hit the 4th place in that list. The exploits of fab five are always entertaining and, although true to life, presented in an original fashion. Great Example is the Club episode, possibly my favorite episode so far. It's great that in some way I can identify with each of the characters... thinking back on events in my life and remembering that something similar happened to me. And although I didn't have such great adventures in the quest to find my wife (it was pretty much an accident), it's a great reminder of the times and tribulations to be had when dating. And although completely unlike me, Barnie rocks and (with all due respect to my wife) I'm completely in love with Robin. Cobie Smulders does an amazing job in bringing her to life and melting your heart while she's on the screen. In my opinion, definitely a must watch show.
  • A show about a group of friends and the events that went on in their lives. It centers around Ted's journey to find a wife.

This show is absolutely amazing. It is very funny. The most unexpected things happen. Everything has some humor in it, even the smallest things. The characters are so over exaggerated, which is not a bad thing. The characters are great. It's original. The show is about future Ted telling his children about how he met their mother. I haven't seen any shows like this. The storylines are great, and it ties in with current times. I would never miss this show because it is so funny, and funny equals great.
  • Who carries this show? Alyson Hannigan American Pie remember "One Time at Band Camp..." Neil Patrick Harris Dougie houser? or as himself on Harold and Kumar goto White Castle.

Neil has found his new home. I watch this show just to see/hear his one liners.

Here is my top 10 for season 1

    1. (to Ted) You suited up! This is totally going in my blog!

    2. Hey, loser. How is not playing laser tag? Because playing laser tag is awesome!. Oh, I killed you, Conner! Don't make me get your mom!

    3. Okay, meet me at the bar in 15 minutes. And suit up!

    4. We're building an igloo in Central Park. It's going to be legendary! Snowsuit up!

    5. Haaaaaaave you met Ted?

    6. Ted, tonight we're gonna go out, we're gonne meet some ladies, it's gonna be legendary. Phone-five! (Barney does a high five with his cellphone)

    7. It's going to be legen...wait for it...and I hope you're not lactose-intolerant 'cause the second half of that word is...dairy!

    8. Flight Suit Up!

    9. You broke up with a porn star? Friendship over. Friendship over!

10.You are so pathetic! I came back for you. I penguin suit-ed up!

    Then you have Lily:

She gets in the same scenes she had in American Pie

    1. Lily gets her eye injured by a Champane cork. The cab driver asks if Marshall hit her and her response(laughs) Hit me? Please! This guy can barely spank me in bed for fun. He's all like "Oh honey did that hurt?" and I'm all like "C'mon let me have it ya pansy!"

    2. Then she has talks with Ted just like she did with Jim in American Pie

Ted: I could end up marrying this woman; I want our first kiss to be special.

Lily: Aw, that's sweet. So you chickened out like a little bitch?

    and another example

3.Ted: (about the "Slutty Pumpkin" girl) How great of a story would it be if I actually ended up marrying this (Slutty Pumpkin) girl?

Lily: On the off chance that happens, maybe we should stop calling her the Slutty Pumpkin

Postive - I will definitally be buying this when it comes out on DVD.

Negative - This is a hard show to bring up at the watercooler at work because the title of the show is "How I met your mother." People always take it personal. Then you have to say on CBS...

    Must see tv show!!! A+++
  • Hilarious, Fresh, Perfect "new friends". Actresses/Actors: A+ Jokes: A+ . Can't wait the next episode.

When Friends ended, I was looking for something similar, possible a funny sitcom, shows a life of few crazy people in their middle 20s, 30s. Joey is a pretty good sitcom, but I think, the average sitcom quality of Joey can not be compared with the "How I met Your mother" piece.

The actresses and actors are fresh, pretty new faces, with a surprisingly professional acting, and the script is just LOL. If You are looking for a nice show playing in New York and want to laugh out loud on the jokes and the situations these guys are landing in, dont waste Your time looking further, just watch this show! I hope it will keep going as good as it currently is. After the first 10 episodes its already my favorite sitcom of the 2000s years.
  • Genius! One of the best shows i've enver beeb addicted to!

WEll, i was like, "Alyson Hannigan is in it, i'll give it a chance. But then i watched it and was like "this is Genius! Absoulute Genius!" Barny being a character "type" i would not normally like, is one of my favorite chrarcters! And then Lilly, i mean who could hate Lilly? I first began to love Alyson, while watching the first 3 seasons of Buffy. (though i wathed all the seasons, the first 3 were my favorite) Anyway, back to the awesomeness of this show! It is as said Genius, and awesome and if you havn't watched it, DO SO! For yourself, if you like good tv, you will love this show!
  • The New Friends!! I love this funny, funny show!

All characters are larger then life. The writing is top-notch. I hope this show gets picked up for the next 10 years!!

Barney is the new hero for single guys everywhere, the one who always drags us out when we just want to sit in front of the tube with a ho-hum life.

We need more Barneys in todays society!

Neil Patrick Harris Kicks this one through the uprights!

  • Another New York based drama. This one's about two friends and a girl the other is going to marry.

    "Great"
I begun to watch this one purely by the fact that it has Alyson Hannigan in it. After I had finnished watching all the episodes of Buffy the second time I was still craving for more Alyson.

Then I found this. The synopsis for the series didn't impress me much and thought this would be just an ordinary american sitcom. After Seinfeld, Newsradio, Friends and some other great sitcoms have ended there haven't come anything great recently. And How I Met Your Mother isn't an exeption.

Don't get me wrong. I really like this show. And like my classification states I need a daily fix or precisely said: weekly fix. It's funny, warm and entertaining. Many of the jokes were quite surprising. Many of them I considered to be more british humor and therefor was positively surprised.

The characters are quite ordinary. We see these in many series. The one with a love, the one without love and beeing desperate, the one who only swings and do not love. These are the men. The women: the one who looks innocent but is very sexual and the other more casual with problems expressing herself. Alysons sexualy loaded cute girl -character reminds me quite a lot of the American Pie movies.

But this show is young and nevertheless that the new episodes haven't deliver so much laughs than the previous I will continue watch this. I just wonder how long it takes that Ted tells the tale about how he met his childrens mother.
  • Here's the plan, and I crap you not....

Seriously who knew Neil Patrick Harris was hot???

I was fully prepared to hate this show; it seemed like yet another girly, annoyingly fake romantic comedy. But I watched it because I've been slightly obsessed with Neil since I was young and watched him in his best-known role as Doogie Howser MD. From the first episode, I was embarrassingly fixated on Barney and every silly yet fabulous one liner he throws with ease. The rest of the cast slightly less enthralls me; though of course Marshall and Lilly are interestingly cute, and Ted is endearing in a puppy dog way.... But the shows real pull is its Doogie factor, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I love him. If he has ever looked sexier than he did dressed in his Top Gun flight suit, I don't think I could stand seeing it, but I'd certainly try :)

You didn't phone five, did you?

  • this one should stay.this is a must watch

this show comes close to the classic friends. its all about a man who tells a detailed story to hi children about how he met their mum and how hard it was but he had help from his friends.

this dose not explane much i didnt want to rewin the show for you. this is very funny a must see
  • Exactly what the tired old "sitcom" genre needs!

    10
    "Perfect"
This is one of the sitcoms that manages to break through the typical "expectedness" of normal shows. True, it is predictable in that the main character is constantly looking for a girl, and you can count on at least that much, it works. As a guy who is experiencing pretty much the same thing... this show hits really close to home for me. I highly enjoy Neil Patrick Harris as Barney, and he gets my comedy new-comer breakthrough MVP of the year! He is a joy to watch, as is the rest of the cast, who are all pitch perfect in their roles. Even Bob Saget as the narrator is perfection. I will watch this show above almost all else at the moment. It is the funniest live action show that is on right now. Soon to be rivaled by Scrubs, whenever it comes back. Anyway I highly recommend this show! It is legen... wait for it... wait for it... and I hope you're not lactose intolerant because the last part of that word is... dary! It's legendary! Okay, maybe not legendary, but genre-busting (rut-busting, whatever), definitely!
  • Classic comedy sitcom show. Just what I needed this fall season. I really enjoy this one. I am also a hopeless romantic so it gives me a chuckle to see these crazy characters every week!

Great idea for a show. I really think it is a different approach to shows no-adays. Of course I had to start watching because of Allyson Hannigan. She is a great comedic actress and plays her character beautifully. I really enjoy watching this each week. Neal Patrick Harris is a real kick in this one...he is hysterical!
  • good show

  • For a freshman comedy, this show has surprising potential.

    8.3
    "Great"
I've seen a few and have the others on my computer but haven't watched yet, it's surprisingly funny with a different concept for a sitcom. The funniest character is Barney with his antics and always trying to get laid, Ted's alright with his search for love and happiness (a little like me). I hope this show can grab more of an audience and stick around for a couple seasons.
  • This show is hilarious!

I couldn't stop laughing. The jokes are nicely written. I love the characters. Especially Barney, he's the reason I love this show!

I also think this show's plot is cool. It's people telling a story that is happening now from the future. None like most that are the opposite. So basically the show has fresh ideas. It's almost as funny as Friends.

This show is wonderful. It's just what a person who is going through stress needs. It's on my list of "the shows I should watch when I'm feeling mad and sad". Now I just hope it lasts more then one season because it seems like the rest of the shows now-a-days are cancelled within a season.
  • A good replacement for Friends

How I Met Your Mother is a comedy I enjoyed from the first episode. It's written well and has interesting plotlines and a talented cast. Neil Patrick Harris' comic timing is just amazing, and really makes the show stand out. The only thing that could afford a change is the name of the show, since most of the plots aren't really about how the main character met his wife... but if you let that go, it's a great show.
  • Fresh Sitcom With a New Concept - LOVE IT!

    9.1
    "Superb"
The show has a great concept and super acting. Alyson shines again in the comedic aspect and Neil's character is so funny, Josh's character is sweet and a great depiction of 27 y/o who's reading for love, but going through the struggles of finding that one. Every week is interesting and something new is brought the tale of how Ted meet his wife; CBS is killing it this season, with King of Queens and HIMYM - keep up the excellence! :D
  • Definitely give it a chance.

    8.7
    "Great"
I’m definitely glad I gave this show a chance. The previews drew me in and the show has kept me watching. As others have said, it has an innovative format with a narrator in the future telling his kids what led up to meeting their mother -- hence, the name of the show (Go figure. :) ). I do, however, believe that Neil Patrick Harris truly stands out, or at least he has thus far. He really brings his character to life. I certainly think he has evolved from the Doogie Howser days. I definitely plan to keep tuning in each Monday night. Everyone should give the new CBS Monday night lineup a chance.
  • Yes that's Doogie, and he steals the show!

    9.0
    "Superb"
When I read the preview for this show online, I thought the concept for How I Met Your Mother was a bit odd, but four episodes into the season I'm already a fan. The creators don't let the 'flashback' premise get in the way of the witty writing and great cast. This ensemble works very well together, and I certainly can't say enough about Neil Patrick Harris. Just when I thought Doogie Howser had fallen off the face of the Earth (except for roles in Starship Troopers and Undercover Brother--not exactly hits) he comes charging back in a hilarious performance of the obnoxious womanizing friend. This is a very promising show with excellent chemistry among the five core members of the cast. If you haven't watched it yet, it's not too late to check it out!
  • While I can't say I'd tread into CBS waters for anything short of a favorite Buffy alum (Alyson Hannigan), How I Met Your Mother has been full of surprises...

While I can't say I'd tread into CBS waters for anything short of a favorite Buffy alum (Alyson Hannigan), How I Met Your Mother has been full of surprises. The generally formulaic sitcom writing and cookie cutter characters are given new life by the cast's dynamic portrayals. Neil Patrick Harris's impeccable comedic timing has to be one of the biggest shocks of this television season, and his obnoxious ladies man, Barney, doesn't show any signs of getting old. Josh Radnor gives Ted a great deal of sincerity and makes him a truly appealing protagonist. Hannigan shines, per usual, but I’m worried she’s getting a little too close to her character from American Pie. The rest of the cast has yet to win me over, but it’s too soon to really lean in either direction; there hasn’t been enough of them. My only real issue is with the cliché Bob Saget narration, but therein lies the show’s premise. And I don’t see them ditching that. I think the show’s biggest challenge is not settling for the quality it’s achieved so soon, because I could see it losing its charm after the first season.
  • The show is hilarious, a new type of story line and the characters are awesome.

The show is hilarious, a new type of story line and the characters are awesome. Neil Patrick Harris's character is just hilarious with his quips and just his mind set in general. the marshall and lily storyline is just ok, but the rest of the cast is hilarious. big fan of cobie smulders, love her character. its definetly my new favorite show, hope that this show stays around for awhile. also the fact that ted grows up to be bob saget in the end is just really amusing to me. Everyone watch this show! It'll definetly make you laugh hard!
  • I love this show. It's one sitcom lately, that I actually enjoy.

I was glad when I heard that CBS had picked up How I Met Your Mother for the Fall 2005 season, because I always thought it sounded good when it was listed on the 'Series in Development' Charts. I was even happier when I started seeing ads.

Then I watched the pilot, and I decided that I don't just like this show...I love this show! I must admit, this show can be a tad predicatable at times, but its humour and how the show brings its characters to life makes up for it.

I wouldn't really compare this show to Friends, I actually like this show better, and I hope that this show doesn't get cancelled after the first season. I'm not sure how they would carry on the storyline for future seasons, but this show definately has potential.

I'd definately recommend checking this out.
  • I love this show already.. here's hoping it's going to run & run!

I'll admit from the start I only watched the first episode as an Alyson Hannigan and Buffy fan, but I was hooked right away. It may not be the most insightful or groundbreaking TV show, but it makes me laugh :) I find Barney hilarious, I hope they continue in the same line with his humour, but keep it fresh, we don't want to see the same joke in every episode.. Guess we'll see how that pans out. I identify with Ted, I think he's a really likeable character, and its different that you already know there is a happy ending (of some sort anyway!) but its gonna be interesting finding out how they got there.
  • From what CBS has showed, this could turn out to be the best new comedy show this season.UPN's "Everybody Hates Chris" looks like its right up there in the best class with "HIMYM", although it looks more like a family friendly show.

    9.0
    "Superb"
The cast itself speaks for itself (ex:Alyson Hannigan,Neil Ptarick Harris,etc...). The prewie looks great, very charming. A show that I am sure to watch faithfully this season. The time slot it was given is great Monday nights at 8:00 on CBS. That's CBS's day of comedy staples. I don't need to wish luck for the success of this show.
  • I usually don't like sitcoms at all, but OMG...this is such a hilarious show!! Definitely the best sitcom I have ever seen!!

I thought it was kind of an unusual story line with the major flashback and all, but it has turned out to be the best sitcom i have ever seen. I only watched the first episode because Alyson was in it, but it's getting my 30 minutes every week! Way to go!
  • Bob Saget and Neil Patrick Harris how can you go wrong. Amazingly funny

Neil Patrick Harris character barney is what really makes the show for me. everyone has a friend like barney that lame over the top guy whos think he is the coolest thing around and has his focus 100% time on getting laid....sadly that character mostly relates to me but that isnt important...this supringly fresh new show is a great new spin for CBS a network usually known for puttin me to sleep with crime shows and programs my grandparents would love..."cough" ramond...Cbs trying to target a younger audince is risky while fox already has arrested development and kitchen confidential handeling that demographic, but this viewer hopes CBS sticks with it, and cant wait to see where it heading.
  • The best sitcom to come along since Friends went off the air.

    10
    "Perfect"
Finally, a decent sitcom to watch! And not only is it decent, it's actually EXCELLENT. Funny story lines, a great ensemble cast, good writing, good chemistry, the whole works. Neil Patrick Harris steals the show in most scenes. And the "will they or won't they" romantic story line is funny instead of tedious.

  • Made me laugh, hard.

    9.6
    "Superb"
I was instantly hooked. The show does have a fatal flaw that they will always be able to avoid as long as the show is on the air. Do not show the mother! In fact, as long as the main character isn't happily in love with the "mother", the show will be ok. Remember when Ross from Friends was on the hunt for Rachel? It was a better show. After they hooked up...that on-screen relationship went sour. Delay that part as much as possible and we will continue to see Niel Patrick Harris as the life of the party stringing Ted along for the ride.

I have never laughed so hard at anyones crazy ways as I do when Niel's character does the crazy stuff like the Airport Video scene and "Have you met Ted?"

    I love it.
