This is hands down one of the best comedies on television today. I think what I like the best about the show is the way they treat the audience. They set up a joke five shows ahead a time. The way they use callbacks is brilliant. The cast is also amazing. I think that Neal Patrick Harris is the most convincing skirt chaser that has been on television since Sam Malone which I find completely amazing considering he is a gay man playing a straight man. Alyson Hannigan who before How I met your mother was best known for Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Willow and that show was not exactly known for it's sitcom like comedy. She has really come into her own. Jason Segel keeps getting better and better. When I first started watching this show I found him the weakest on the show but as the show progresses he grows on you. Now for me I think he is the funniest on the show. The rest of the cast to me is just average and I believe could be replaced. Obviously not Josh Radnor's character of Ted but like I said he is average on a above average show. I can not say enough good things about this show. If you have not seen this show watch it now I am telling you it is really good stuff.
wow where should i start. very funny show i completely love it..since friends stopped playing this show kinda took its place. i love how they aways have stories to tell when their sitting in their usual table drinking or eating something. and im really interesting about who the mother is..i know it says its not robin but i would really want them to be together. when ted found out lily broke robin and him up dang he flipped and he didnt even care about his other exes so...oh and barney rules!! hes always got the most interesting rules for his friends
This is a show revolves around the lives of five friends living in New York.Ted(the romeo of the gang),Marshall(the married mature one woman guy),Barney(really awesome, the sleep with a girl n never call her guy),Lilly(Marshall's wife n the adviser of the group) and Robin(the girl Ted loves[it keeps going off and on though]).Ted is an architect who's college roommate and best friend is Marshall.Marshall is a lawyer.Lilly is a teacher,Robin is the one who joined the gang last.she is a reporter.Barney's job is never revealed though[the firm is known but not what he does].Ted and robin shares a awesome fluctuating relationship for quite a big chunk of the series.Barney, who is trying to teach ted how to live keeps preaching his principles n tries to make people to follow him.this show is a must watch n one will get hooked to it.Keep watching it its great!
As Barney describes himself, HIMYM is definately an awesome and a legendary show!! One that makes me crack up!! All the characters are so refreshing! They all have a different style of humor! All episodes have a impressive theme and is carried out in such a spontaneous manner!! Barney is my fav character because he is free and like me he has the strangest of theories! All the actors are perfect for their parts! Ted is so adorable and vulnerable :P too!! Robin is well Ms Canada..and too scared of little children as they might be planning to kill her! Lillypad and Marshmellow, though super mushy, are still a very unique and not very popularly potrayed characters!! And Barney is our man...someone is got to see his resume!! :)
This is one helluva crazy show!! Makes me laugh and see it over and over again!!! You guys if you love friends...then this is your show!! Looking forward to the last episode of the 4th season!!
And question to the producer...when does ted meet his childrens kids??!! :P
I have to say, that this is one of the FEW half hour comedies that is a must watch for me. There aren't much GOOD ones out there. It's been 4 seasons and it hasn't slowed down any. There strange thing is that they haven't introduced or changed any of the main characters, which is rare for a sitcom that last for over 2 seasons. There ensemble is still great and it amazes me that they still haven't run out of things to talk about Ted's past. I think they might be losing sight of finding Ted's future bride, but its still hilarious!
I hope he never meets her, then the show would never end. ;)
Its really bad what they are doing to this show.
People around me have lost interest.
Its a shame that with a cast like that and such a nice concept, they cannot find good script writers and cannot come up with creative ideas and scenarios.
Season 4 is almost over and nothing interesting has happened. The story should move on... Ted should me the mother of his children.
Its really bad to waste such potential... Hope that fans agree with me.
What do you think?
- Should barney and robin become an item?
- Should Ted find the one?
- Should their friends start having kids?
This show is absolutely great you will find it difficult to pick out a character in this series that does not make you laugh. All characters are totally different in unique circumstances so you never find the show repeating humour from character to character. If you have not seen this show and thinking of something to get into I strongly recommend watching How I Met Your Mother. Get to know and love Ted, Marshall, Lilly, Barney (personal favourite) and Robin. Their unique backgrounds thier stories and how they all come to live pretty much together in New York. Great Show.
I was so glad to see this as the top rated comedy on your website. I have heard a lot about Two and A Half Men being the #1 comedy in the ratings for several years, and I feel this show is far superior. The characters are interesting, the writing is clever, and I love the way some jokes reappear in future episodes (e.g. the slap bet; Robin being a former Canadian pop star). Barney is one of the best characters on TV and Neil Patrick Harris is as awesome as the character claims to be. This is another one of the few shows that my husband and I agree on.
I absolutely enjoyed this episode to the fullest, There was not a single episode in which I did not laugh about Barney's crazy mind, techniques, etc. I also laughed at the messes they all made together, and the way Ted told the story made it look a little innocent (which it wasn't) I hope the kids learn from those mistakes and their own, but along the way have some fun. To me their is a moral in every creative thing, and for this one it has to be, you can't reach perfect, but you can have fun trying. I absolutely love this show and recommend it to anyone and everyone! ENJOY!!
I've seen so many of the storylines on other shows that are based on group friendships. This show isn't much different from Friends. Having said that I like most of the cast but strangely it's the two "leads" that I find boring. Robin and Ted are the next generation's Ross and Rachel except we already know that it's not going to happen. Why they insist on throwing these two in bed together I'll never know. Maybe the writers should have taken a page from Seinfeld's Jerry and Elanie. I would be rather dissappointed to see the show throw a twist and find some way of putting Ted and Robin together, perhaps after they have been married and had children with others. I've heard rumors about the " future voice" not being Ted however, since he speaks in the first person when recalling these memories, I just don't see how that is possible. Marshall and Lily are cute, both actors work well together, but they are inhibited by being the "married couple" and have become mere sounding boards for the other three with a touch of slap stick throw in. Barney is a blast. I think Neil Patrick Harris is the breakout star of the show. While I like the show overall I'm not disappointed if I miss it.
I have basically watched it from the start and i have always thought it is going too go far. And i was right it did go a fair way and it is still going which is really cool. i hope it keeps going for a while because everybody know this show is really funny (sometimes). my personal favourite is Barny he is so funny and always trying to get the chicks. Ted is pretty cool too but he is the main star when i don't think anyone should be the main star because their pretty much all cool. Marshall is funny and really goofy at the same time. That's why i love this show.
I am so happy people are finally getting to know How I met your mother and it's getting higher in ratings !!! It is a great show. The caracters are funny and Ted is so cute. I have not loved a show so much since Friends. go HIMYM !!! I'm still rooting for Ted and Robyn... Even tough I know they can't end togheter... Can't wait for him the find the right one... Man... 100 words minimum ? I don't know what to write anymore except watch this show !! it is worth it !! I have five words left.
A Thought: Marshall and Lily just might be the perfect couple. I love the witty banter, and the friendship the two have.
Of course, I love Ted, Robin, and Barney -- this show would not be the same without any of them. I think it's great the way then writers epitomize the friendship dynamic in these five characters. I think we all know a Lily, Marshall, Ted, Robin, and Barney -- or are one of the aforementioned.
I can't decide which is my favorite episode, who is my favorite character, or what is my favorite storyline. Truth be told, I love them all.
The writers place very small clues about the mother and they never really show her. But I seriously think they showed her in this episode and no one noticed! Ted says that he didn't meet his wife in the club...he only bumped into her! Re-watch the episode...When Ted and Barney are at the club, Ted's talking to Vanessa Manillo and he bumps into a girl, he apologizes for a sec and continues his discussion. Now think about... What was the point of him bumping into this girl! I'm pretty sure thats his wife. Or maybe they're just toying with us, either way love the show. If the writers are reading this... don't forget me! :) hehe joking
At first I thought "Wow, another show about five friends, how original". But I gave it a chance after everyone was telling me how great it was. I gave it a chance and now I see why everyone loves it.
It's not your usual show about friends. It has a lot of creativity in it like how it first started off as story. Now really think it's a funny show and my favorite character is Barney. I just think that anyone could fall in love with this show like I did.
Fans of "Friends" and "It's Always Sunny" will probably like this show
I don't live in the US, so i found out about this show from an SNL episode with Neil Patrick Harris, which was extremely funny, btw.
So i checked out TV show he advertised and it was even better. Every single character (and all them together) is amazing, jokes are the best, by far this is the funniest show i've seen.
So i watched all available seasons and it even gets better in the end.
Yes, there're ALOT of references to friends and some other sitcoms, but they're not annoying, even funny sometimes (like that Cheers episode).
Bottom line: show is totally worth watching and if it doesn't make you laugh, go to the doctor, there might be something wrong with you!
What an amazing show!! Some of the best characters by far in any show on air. The writers of the show are amazing how they come up with the plot for every episode and tie them all in with past and future events. So many memorable moments that make me want to watch every episode over and over. The characters are great, the lines they come up are classic and the story is memorable. truly Amazing!!
I'll make some people angry and id have to say this would be BETTER than Friends by far. Great show, a must watch for anyone!!
To be honest, not really a exceptionally interesting episode. What was the point of the final twist revealing the 3 stories took place on 3 different days? Usually when HIMYM throws such a contrivance in, it leads to a unique and event-catalysing scene; and as touching as the Marshall-Lily reunion was, it's not like we've never seen it before ('How Lily Saw Christmas', for example).
Really the only reason I'm writing this review is for confirmation that we saw a 'future scene' during this episode. During the montage of five-word-sentences-that-every-man-says, one has Ted sitting on the couch saying "I'm gonna win her back". Is it just me, or has that not happened yet? Clearly it wasn't meant to be part of the joke, so is it something coming in the future?
If so, what could this mean? Is it the mother he's referring to? And speaking of which, when was the last time HIMYM gave another hint about her? As I recall, last time was in episode 3.12 'No Tomorrow' where she and Ted attended the same St Patrick's Day party. Isn't it time for another hint (given we're well over Stella by now)?
I have seen many bad reviews about this series and I decided to watch it, every single episode.
And the thing is that I loved it. The plot is good written, the characters are charming and crazy in their own way.
I will try to answer some question whit my review, to try and make the people understand it better.
So the story of how I met your mother is Ted Mosby telling the story of how he met their mother, and why? Why would a father do that, well in season 2, episode 3, Ted tell his mother that one day, we will tell his kids the story, every single detail, because he think it's important they know. And why torture a kid? It's like telling a story of what u got today, I may think it's interesting but it's just pain to every one else. So it's all connected, if you see it from the right angle, every bit of the story is connected to the future.
Some people say that the jokes are stolen and the show is an imitation of other shows. In a comedy it's hard to tell a joke that don't resembles any other, and if you were a fan of other shows you will recognize it, but now, think like this, the joke may be similar, but the situation, the timing, the characters and even the surrounding make it new and funny again. Innovating is good, but making something old into something new and funny it's has hard and good as innovating.
I read some were that there was no depth in the personality of the characters. If I try to watch the show, and take attention every character as a distinct personality and different ways of acting, Ted is a kind guy that takes extreme good care of girls, is a very loyal friend, gets crazy some times, want to get married, and find the love of his life. Robin is from Canada and loves her country, she is afraid of commitment, hates kids, loves guns, has some father and past complexes, and wants to travel trough the world. Lily is a sweet girl that works on a kindergarten loves to paint, feel bad that her carrier as a painter didn't go so well, loves Marshall and his totally nuts when It comes to having sexual relation whit Marshall. Marshall is the romantic, dedicated and respecting boyfriend, crazy about Lily, dedicated to his best friend Ted, wants to stay a teenager, he loves to party and wants to protect the environment as an attorney. Barney is the Womanizer of the group, crazy ideas, always trying to get girls, helps his friend in his own way, has father as well as mother issues, thinks it's a god, as a shady job, and as a other side that…(watch the show won't put spoilers in here). Every character has her own distinct objectives, personalities and lives, none of them are equal in any way, that makes them unique and not in any way shallow.
The show is awesome; the actors play their characters greatly. Every situation is so unique and crazy, but at the same time you can relate to them, any character has a trait that you can watch and think "hey, I've done that!" or "that happen to me." I recommend the series to any one that loves a good romantic series as well as a comic one, the plot is very well written that will make you want to get to know every aspect of the series and the characters, and you will be always wanting to know what will happen next.
This comedy is a great laugh and works so well even though similar ideas have been created eg. seinfeld and friends. The key to its success is possibly that it creates a kind of mix between the two for a great fresh comedy.
This show is about a father who tells his children about how he met his mother through a series of flashbacks. The father is Ted and he goes through a series of stories and events with his four best friends; Marshall, Robin, Lily, and BARNEY!
Whoever thought of this show is a pure genius. The way this show is set up is brilliant; how Ted is telling his children twenty years into the future about how he met their mother is a great and original idea. This show is one of the funniest ever! There isn't a show where you won't leave thinking, "wow!" As funny as all the characters are, the funnniest guy, who most fans of this show fall in love with is the confirmed bachelor; Barney. His catchphrases, his lack of respect, his antics to get girls will crack you up throughout the entire series. Watch it now!
Well, "noway746", criticise me for disliking a show which feels the need to remind us every -3.0363 seconds that boys like girls, girls like boys, boys have penises and girls have vaginas, but you have absolutely no basis for critising me for liking The Simpsons. Do you want to know why, or were you just mocking my love for the greatest television show in history because you know you're wrong and you don't have any legitimate criticism to offer?
And if you actually think that I called this show "unsuccessful", then you are seriously one huge idiot because if you spend more than half a second glancing at my review you'll notice that I said "...the fact that show show IS REASONABLY SUCCESSFUL" not "unsuccessful".
But...haha...then I just remind my self that there's no point arguing with a bunch of people who think this watered down version of Friends (which was actual comedy) is more pointless than writing out the entire dictionary on a notebook just so you have a spare. Why don't you guys just buy some tissues, rent Friends or YES, THE SIMPSONS, and cry your hearts out over the sight of actual comedy - something you're clearly so unfamiliar with.
the people who are putting this show down because its rude or some thing like that are people who are no fun this is a tv show its not that big of a deal it is funny and a good show i will tell anyone to watch this show it is the funniest show since friends anyone who does not like this wouldn't know comedy if it fell in front of them yes sometimes they make a rude joke but i dont know anyone who hasn't made a rude joke before everyone it doesn't madder who you are have at one point said something a bit rude to make people laugh it is a good show
It is the best comedy show ever keep it up guys .
I mean the story is gread , the dirctor is brilliant
and the actors are first-class I hop it gets as far as friends or more As for actors Ted: makes you feel that no body else will be right for the part more than him Marshal : spontaneous , gives you the feeling that you're watching him living his real life not acting in some show Barrny :what can I say , but I'll tell him as he usaully says ( you are awesome ) Lily and Roben are the flavor of the show
How i met your mother is amazing i had heard alot about it for a year or so and then i finally watched an episode online.. and was hooked. I then had to get ahold of all 3 seasons and ended up watching them in a couple days before season 4 came on :P. If there is one thing this show seriously cannot do without.. its neil patrick harris.. his role as barney is Legen.. wait for it.. dary.. haha he makes that show. But honestly the whole cast is perfect they are all funny and the ladies are hot. I think the best thing about this show is presentation.. the way they show things is great. Example: In the slap bet episode when it goes straight from ted telling robin he wont tell anyone about her 'being married' to the next scene of barney being slapped across the face. The way they transition into the next scene with immediate laughs is why i love this show.. not to mention the constant reference to getting high with the eating a 'sandwich' thing haha. Hope this show goes on for a long time it doesnt seem like the writers are losing their spark anytime soon :D
okay, cinemaster, i can't take you seriously when you judge this show to be immature after i saw that you have "the simpsons" picked as a favorite show....
good show, love the wit, love the story, love the jokes, and love the characters. They do well referencing previous episodes, and continuing the storyline from episode to episode.
the premise of the show is excellent, and the execution of the idea is flawless...
if people like cinemaster would watch more than a few episodes of a show before writing a review of it, then they might actually raise a few valid objections to the show, but since reasons such as immaturity are noted in her review, i highly doubt she bothered to do her research.
Ted is an excellent character, he seems so vulnerable, allowing the audience to connect.
Marshall is awesome. He is naive in that he thinks to look for the good in others, and he hopes for saving the environment, and yet he is very intelligent, and witty. And his roots in minnesota playing "baskiceball" make him just "adorable" Barney is a jerk, and the show needs a jerk to be complete. The "immaturity" he provides is harmless and hilarious, get over it if you can't handle it.
Lilly is possibly the cutest woman ever to be on television. She is an artist, and a kindergarden teacher, she wants to act grown up, but she just can't.. her struggle provides some great storylines.
Robin is gorgeous, funny, and smart. Her presence allows for some playful, and tasteful mockery of our neighbours to the nort... Her character is just aboot the funniest part of the show... gun slinging hockey loving, and cute, deadly combination.
the cast fits together perfectly, each person's flaws fit into the next person's flaws, opening the door to many many lines of jokes..
unsuccessful? season 4 neilsons put it averaging at 9.56 million, peaking at 10.4 mil... sounds pretty successful to me...
also, dont even bother calling me immature, you're talking to the 19 year old who has more classical music in his collection than your average public library, a 19 year old who can quote any simon and garfunkel song's lyrics, and who sings in an annual local performance of Handel's Messiah... which btw, i could quote for you right now.... so, no, i am not immature...
in the immortal words of Marshmellow, Marshall Erikson: "Lawyered"
For the past couple of weeks, How I Met Your Mother episodes were trying too much to create 'trends' – all of those silly yet original phrases, rules, and behavioral patterns. We've had the Naked Man, the Woooers, the Cheerleader effect… It's too much! Barney's shticks are good fun, but they can't hold the series on their own, there needs to be something more – and this episode provided it!
We finally got a full episode with a story of its own and not too many attempts to create its own definition of things and behaviors. And it was a kick-ass episode too! Although Barney is starting to get annoying as Robin's love puppy, Ted is still cool and Marshall kicks ass, literally!
And don't get me started about the Lightsaber finale, my poor nerdy heart couldn't take it, it was too awesome for words. Yet again – How I Met Your Mother has proven that it's a survivor, and that it still has a long way to go and lots of things to accomplish before jumping the shark. It was a pleasure to watch, can't wait for more!
I've memorized certain episodes, and have the three first seasons on DVD. I watch them all the time. The Episode "the Matchmaker" was when me and my family got hooked. Best episodes: (S1)Purple Giraffe; Okay Awesome; Slutty Pumpkin; Game Night; Milk; (S2) Swarley; Slap Bet; How Lily Stole Christmas; Columns,; Monday Night Football; Arrivederci, Fiero; Showdown; (S3) How I met Everyone Else; Spoiler Alert; Slapsgiving, the Platinum Rule; the Bracket; Miracles; (S4) Best Burger in New York, Intervention.
only in MY Opinion. That list is in chronological order. =D I do admit that I AM obsesed with this show. Unfortuantaly, this happends ALOT.
When I saw the Naked Man in Ted's apartment I thought we were seeing a variation of Friends when Joey stripped down just after meeting Monica, thinking she wanted him. Instead we meet a guy who intentionally gets naked as a ploy to seduce his date. As lame as it sounds, it works on Robin. As the gang discusses the event later, Barney is so overwhelmed at this new technique he fails to get jealous at the fact that Robin has slept with someone else. Few things make Barney stand in awe. But Marshall is aghast at Robin's slutty ways. While the rest of the group harangues Marshall he holds on to being a big old girl, insisting that you should only sleep with someone you love. Lily decides to come up with 50 different reasons to sleep with someone. The Naked Man claims his method works two out of three times. Ultimately, Barney, Ted, and Lily try the technique with only Barney failing. Great stuff. This is the kind of humor I expect from this show.
It is shocking thing to acknowledge, but it has been going on for quite a few chapters now: this series has gotten so ultra-conservative-preachy to a level that reminds us the worst Bill Cosby. The very beginning of this chapter is a riot, where Barney - as usual, the best of the pack - is HUGE with all his no-father's day antics. But then, when they deal with the subject of having or not having kids, among all the half-cooked jokes, prevails the idea that not having kids is just the choice of: a) A loser whom nobody loves (let alone have children with)
b) A psycho (because everyone loves babies: let's make a caricature of Robin!)
c) An ice queen with no heart.
Why the need to disrespect people? Yeah, sure, it's a comedy, but let's not forget that, at the ending, they show clearly (and gruesomely) that even the sock-holding Robin or the karaoke-drunken Barney DO want to have children (subtlety, anyone?).
Once more, Ted Mosby points his finger in a way that would embarrass Bill Cosby, and this has been going on since the beginning of season 3.
PS: This is not the only chapter to pursue an ultra conservative agenda. The the scathing attack on the Woo Girls (They hate you because you are married ant that makes them jealous), the cheesy Read-this-girl-a-tale-and-you'll-realize-how-great-is-to-live-in-Jersey or how-sad-is-to hang-out-drunken-with-Barney...
Seriously, do a Barney spinoff an any of us will be relieve no to hear Ted's sermons again.
Hold it, that already exists: the highly superior "Two and a Half Men".
