An average enough episode made all the worse by the Microsoft marketing dept's inability to understand the word "subtle". Ridiculous.

That said, the episode is unfortunately a slide back towards the irrelevancy of season 5 with some big high concept idea driving the whole episode, in this case a race across New York with each of the characters using a different method of transport.

HIMYM's strength as a show always came from the characters and it seemed like the writers were refocusing on them over the start of this season, I just hope this episode was only a small bump on the road back to a really funny show.

"Subway Wars" is a great How I Met Your Mother episode. I love how each character tries to prove that they are "real" New Yorkers. I love how Ted thinks stealing a cab from someone who really needs one is a "real" New Yorker. I love how Lily thinks that crying on the subway is "real" New Yorker. I love how Marshall thinks killing a cockroach with bare hands is a "real" New Yorker. I love how Robin does all three things in this episode. I give this episode a 8.5/10.

I would not be surprised if this episode maintained to be the best episode on TV.com, because in my opinion, it definitely was one of the best episodes of How I Met Your Mother, it managed to be funny, entertaining, and very intriguing. I loved every minute of it, this epsiode was even, dare I say it... epic! I don't used that word a lot so that just goes to show how much I liked this episode, the plot for the episode was amazing. Racing to get to a restaurant, all the interactions from all the characters were amazing and everything managed to tie in together in the end, all 5 different plots.

This is the How I Met Your Mother I grew to love, and I hope they keep this coming, because I haven't been so impressed with an episode like this since season 4, so that really goes to show how great this episode was. As I was watching it, I thought to myself that this episode might be under appreciated when I get on to TV.com like other episodes of How I Met Your Mother. Lets hope I'm wrong.

One of the best episodes of this show, without a doubt, and entering this show's sixth season, that's really saying something.
  • After a promising start to the new season that seemed to mark the return to a plot, the show has officially returned to where it was at the end of season 5. As the underlying story goes missing, so do the good jokes.

I recently watched the first 4 seasons again that made this show so successful and found myself loving it again. The jokes where actually really funny to the point where you laugh out loud in front of the television, something that rarely happens with the new episodes. And there was actually something like story development.

When you take this episode as a representative of the new style of HIMYM you just can't help it notice that something is fundamentally different now - and not in a good way. It's just trying too hard to be funny, failing horribly. Individual episodes seem disconnected from any underlying story. Think about it, this episode could have taken place in any other season - except it would have really stood out as the worst episode in that season, whereas now that's just the standard you expect every week.

Bring back the plot. Bring back good, clever jokes. Past success is not going to be enough to keep a viewership around forever.
  • It's the How I Met Your Mother take on tThe Amazing Race! Hiloarious episode!

This episode was very much sensational, particularly after a boring episode last wekk. This one sees our five protagonists eompeting in a rrace through New York, with each of them needing to win for a fdifferent reason.

The episode was absolutely hilariosu! I really enjoye d Barney's idea of pretending to be posioned, in order to get an ambulance to drive him to the Finish Line! Hilarious stuff!

Another thing I enjoyed was Robin's breakdown on the subway - especially when she tears her TV show's poster down, and the onld one is still behind it.

Overall, a hilarious episode wihich I would highly recommend! Very brilliant stuff, and I hope this standard is maintained throughout future episodes! Great job, keep it up!
  • The gang races through New York to a restaurant that Woody Allen is supposed to be at and along the way, Robin becomes a "real New Yorker".

I thought this was a great episode. While there have been funnier ones, this episode really kept my interest the while time. Barney was great as his usual self trying to hit on the girl that he could tell had been crying; and I always love when they show his softer side. I like that they had Ted realize he is the crazy one on the bus. I like his character, but I can definitely see him being an annoying know-it-all once in a while, like he is on the bus. I was so happy that they seemed to have finished with Marshall and Lily's baby problems for now. Lily had some funny moments this episode in the subway and I loved Marshall's song :D Robin had some good moments as well, and I can't explain why, but I find her very likeable in almost every episode, even when she isn't that funny. I am really enjoying this season and feel HIMYM is still going strong.

I gotta say that this is another good episode coming out of season six. I particularly like Marshall's part of the race and his war against the machines! :) Maury makes a great guest star for not saying much during the entire episode! From silly pregnancy jokes to sad bar girls (think, "what would Barney do?" :P), you can't miss this episode and frankly, there really is no excuse since you can catch the full episode on this website! With all the good, there is one thing that I noticed that was kind of annoying. Maybe they done it before but I haven't noticed until now...anyway, this episode was laced with all sort of Microsoft products like the 360 (with their Kinect thing), Office, and even Windows labeled monitors, laptops (of course, not real but just to have the logo out..). I wonder how much Micro$oft paid to get their products (and logo) for this episode? I guess it wouldn't be no different from a movie by Tri-Star/Columbia with all its Sony products (being its owned by Sony if you didn't know) but still...

Anyway, overall, this was a good episode and a good season so far.

This episode was simply amazing. The character interaction throughout kept my attention for the whole episode and the story of the race was so classic of How I Met Your Mother.

I like the Lily and Marshall still haven't lost their couplyness and was actually happy that this episode centered on all of them instead of mainly Ted.

I loved Barney in this episode. It was great seeing him being as he always is (with the crying girl in the bar) but at the same time seeing his sweeter side and how good he can be near the end. I think the dynamic between him and Robin just gets better and better.

Robin was also hilarious and i loved that she went specifically to Barney for help and someone to talk to, before even Lily. I've liked seeing her softer side during this season and hope it continues while also keeping her awesome personality.

    Overall, another brilliant episode.
  • The gang has a challenge to see who can get downtown the quickest, by subway, ambulance, bus, or on foot. In the course of the competition, Robin has a rite of passage and becomes a real New Yorker.

This was a clever and well put together episode. Cobie Smulders as Robin Scherbatsky won the competition of having the best showcase with the subplot of her becoming a 'real' New Yorker, though I won't say if she wins the race. Marshall tries to win the race on foot, and has his own folk song, like John Henry did. I am wondering if Jason Segal wrote the music for that, as he contributed songs to his film, Forgetting Sarah Marshall. A sub plot for Marshall and Lily was that they were trying to get Lily pregnant but couldn't. Each one blamed themself. Neil Patrick Harris is always a scene stealer, but this episode was kind of just average for him. I liked the use of Maury Povich as himself, and also Steve Rizzo as the Giant Calculator. Another thing about this show, it uses what looks to me like real New York exterior shots. Is it filmed in New York? It is funny that likable but bland characters are being compared to Josh Radnor's Ted Mosby. I was reading a review of, for instance, $#*! My Dad Says and that was a criticism fired at the son. I think that Seinfeld was kind of a Ted Mosby, and Kramer was the classic archetype of the whacky neighbor. The whacky neighbor can't anchor a show, but can add zip if the show is anchored by a Ted Mosby or a Seinfeld. Barney might just be the Kramer of How I Met Your Mother. Jack and Karen were the Kramers of Will & Grace. They were actually funnier than Will & Grace, but they were kind of cartoonish exagerations. If there hadn't been a Will & Grace to steady the show, Jack and Karen would have been too over the top. I am thinking about the episode of HIMYM where Ted Mosby's ex girlfriend's ex boyfriend wrote a hit movie, starring Chris Katan as Ted Mosby, a complete jerk. Then there was the other guy who wrote an adult film where the protagonist had a similar name and disturbing parallels to Ted Mosby. I guess there are worse things to be called than a Ted Mosby.

The Bottom Line is that this was a tightly crafted episode of HIMYM, with some very clever concepts. It was good, but it didn't knock me over the head with a baseball bat.

Funny episode . when Barney in action you can tell it's gonna be hilarious. after disappointing start for season 6 this is really promising. shooting out side the bar and flat are always good for the show , back to Barney , I never get enough of this guy jokes they never look boring , repeated and clearly he is the "sooka" here :D when the show focus on other characters it's less fun and I don't know why in sitcoms it seems that the supporting character is the funniest and most attractive ones,, man 100 words are a lot to comment on ne episode :D
