  • More brilliant writing

    10
It boggles my mind how damn clever the writing in How I Met Your Mother Is. No sitcom has been this intricate with its set ups as this show has. So many things are happening in just the half hour that it's allotted. Like Robin finding out that she has a date with a dude named Derek. Barney's date, Natalya, ends up getting left behind and Ted doesn't want to compromise his schedule. But what happens when Robin comes crying to Ted? He contradicts himself.

The limo, Mary Beth--awesome use of character introduction, making her super friendly by hugging everyone she sees--the amount of parties that Ted lined up for them all, fake Moby, it's all in order to supplant the moment leading to the episode's conclusion, Ted and Robin kissing.

It's astonishing how the episode weaves through set ups and concepts so masterfully, all these little things to add character and suspense, like Barney's Psyche Playlist, Lilly switching shoes where she ends up going to party number four, and then Marshall also ending up at party four to retrieve Barney's mix again, it's justman, how do they do it?

I have to give this episode a ten rating just because I'm left stunned at its top notch writing.moreless
  • Another awesome one

    10
I cant give less than 10 because, I was perfectly entertained when I first watched this episode.
  • It's 2006

    8.5
This was one of those episodes that leave people talking and I mean that in a good way. I think the producers do a good job between Ted and Robin for what happens later in the season. Having watch the entire series at this point, it's this episode I have to pick at a little bit. This was a good episode but why did future Ted make snaryky comments about Robin's date. It's stuff like that gives people hope that Robin is the mother (trust me she's not)

Ted always believes in fate in that things happen for a reason and Barney believes in just letting things happen. You see that in this episode. There were some funny moments. Not Moby or Tony was funny. Ted's date hugging everyone was also funny. It also shows his poor taste in women. although she was not bad. I loved seeing Ranjit again. I like how Marshall comes back to find his friends, the smoke was a nice touch. I also enjoyed Ted realizes how everything is not going to according to plan and just celebrates the new year with his friends but with a twist. Liston to future Ted's comments. Yes big things happen in 2006 for him, but what happens in 2006 has a effect what happens in later years? I think so.moreless
  • Ted rents a limo for the gang to ride in on New Year's Eve but with excrutiating distractions.

    8.0
Ted tells the story of how the five spent their first New Year's Eve since Robin's joining together. He rents a limousine that is driven by none other than the brilliant Ranjit. They plan on going to five different parties in a limited amount of time and then return to what they thought was the best party. However, everyone has their excuses to get out of the limo. Robin is going out with her new boyfriend. Disappointed with previous parties, Lily then leaves to run back to the apartment to change into more comfortable shoes. Later, Marshall leaves as well to go find her. The gang then mistakes a man as musician Moby and invite him to a party. They later discover it isn't Moby and he has a gun. They hurry him to get out of the car and now start worrying about the others. Robin then shows up because her boyfriend had to work and then Lily arrives back without Marshall. Barney is still devestated over losing his Russian girlfriend at one of the parties and then having his get-pumped CD stolen. However, they find it, as well as the girl in the front seat with Ranjit. Lily, shouting for Marshall, finally gets a response. And he has lots of good news as they spend the rest of the night at the awesome Party #5. Even though Robin's boyfriend comes back, she gives Ted his desired midnight kiss. Overall, this was a very good episode with a fun plot and format. Very funny and the song Barney used to get pumped up was... awesome.moreless
  • The gang takes a limo to different parties on New Year's Eve.

    10
"The Limo" is a hilarious How I Met Your Mother episode. IN this episode, the gang tries to go to as many parties as possible before it strikes midnight. I love how Barney brings "Get Psyched" mix CD. I love when they see this guy named Moby and they pick him up and go to a party. And turns out that Moby is crazy and has a gun and that his name is not really Moby. I think it was cute how Marshall and Lily went separate ways and then they were trying to get back to each other so they could kiss each other at midnight. I love the Ted and Robin kiss. I give this episode a 10/10.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • 'Not Moby' never tells Ranjit where his party is, but Ranjit seems to know where he is going when Ted tells him to go to "Moby's party."

  • QUOTES (15)

    • Barney: You know, the first time I was in a limo, I was five. I was on my way to my grandfather's funeral. In a way, I guess I still am.
Lily: Okay, it's getting weird in here. I'm gonna go call Marshall.
Ted: But he left his phone.
Lily: (Screaming out the sunroof) Marshall!

    • Barney: Ranjit! Dude, you're driving a limo now. That's awesome.
Ranjit: I've moved up in the world.

    • Barney: Oh, wait, wait, wait. We have to turn around. We left Natalya.
Lily: Barney, none of us really liked her.
      Barney: What?!
      Lily: Sorry.
Barney: Oh, very nice, Lily. You know, she is a guest in this country. So while you may choose to turn your back on her, I choose to turn my front on her.

    • Barney: We couldn't go back for Natalya, a human being, but we do have time for hot dogs?
Marshall: Yeah, we like hot dogs.

    • Lily: Who was that guy?!
Barney: Well, we know it's not Moby and it's not Tony.

    • Marshall: I couldn't find Lily at party number three so I walked… I walked to the next party on the list.
      Ted: Not Moby's party?
Marshall: Yes, Moby's party. Check it out. He signed my shirt. (shows the back of the shirt where the name "ERIC" is written)

    • Future Ted: You probably want to feel bad for your old man at this point in the story. Well, don't. Not every night has a happy ending. But all of it's important. All of it was leading somewhere. Because suddenly, it was 2006. And 2006 was a big one.

    • Ted: You're not... Moby, are you?
      Not Moby: Who?
Ted: Moby... The recording artist, Moby.
      Not Moby: Oh, no.
Ted: But when we said "Hey, Moby" you said "Yeah".
Not Moby: Oh, I thought you said Tony.
      Ted: So your name's Tony?
      Not Moby: No.

    • Marshall: Look at us, riding around in a limo, eating hot dogs... It's like we're the president.

    • Lily: So where are you from, Natalya?
Barney: She...who knows. The former Soviet republic of Drunk-Off-Her-Ass-Istan?

    • Barney: Oh sure laugh, laugh for Barney Stinson. Laugh for the sad clown trapped on his whirling carousel of suits and cigars and bimbos and booze. Round and round it goes, and where's it all heading? Nowhere.

    • Barney: Not-Moby took my get-psyched mix!

    • Barney: I don't want to be kissing Ranjit!
Ranjit: You don't know what you're missing!

    • Barney: Aheeeem. People often ask me "Barney how is that you're so psyched so much of the time"?
Lily: By who? Who asks you that?

    • Ted: Yes, Barney, your submissions were received and no, we will not be attending any parties in your pants.
