Human Target

Season 1 Episode 4

Aired Wednesday 8:00 PM Feb 03, 2010 on FOX

  • Trivia

    • The abbot was oddly unperturbed that two different men, who it became clear weren't monks, were in their midst without explanation or being asked to leave.

    • It's absurd that a worldly, experienced, operative like Chance would believe for a second that all they would have to do is turn over the item the thieves wanted to them, and they would then let everybody go.

  • Quotes

    • Winston: This is a guy who makes mistakes, a guy who is trying to put those mistakes behind him. If we can't help a guy like that, what the hell are we doing here?

    • Chance: She made you feel like one of the good guys. Don't worry; it happens to the best of us.

    • Chance: Let me spoil the ending for you. This feeling you have right now frequently precedes death.

    • Chance: There's a woman who cares enough about your life to hire me. I made her a promise and I intend to keep it.

    • Chance: A girl gets you turned around like that, it doesn't go away.

    • Winston: I saw the look on his face as he watched Emily and Gray together and I knew exactly what he was thinking. Course he'd never admit it, but I know now he still hasn't gotten over her. He's never gotten over Katherine.

    • Winston: I just hope one day the man will just stop looking for salvation. I hope that one day he understands that salvation isn't something you can find.

    • Winston: Now, me, personally, when I think of vows of obedience and silence, I don't exactly think of Christopher Chance. In fact, the two are sort of like oil and water.

    • Chance: So why hide out in a monastery?
      Winston: Don't know.
Chance: Well, there's got to be thousands of them. Why that one?
Winston: Don't know. What, you don't like "don't know" now. I thought "don't know" was your favorite part of this job.
Chance: No, you had me with heavily-armed crew invading a remote monastery, but that's just me. "I don't know"--that usually scares the crap out of you.
      Winston: Ahh.
Chance: Okay, now you're really creeping me out.

    • Winston: Now, I have to admit, I was a little bit nervous about Chance on his own in a place of worship. As long as I've known him, I haven't seen him set foot in a church either. I guess he's not much of a religious man. At least, that's what he tells me. Truth be told, I'm not sure what the guy believes in.

    • Winston: Now he told me you knew a chopper pilot out of Montreal-I need him here, fast.
Guerrero: Well, I know who he means. That guy's not really an option. We had a falling out.
      Winston: Well, can't you apologize?
Guerrero: Yeah, if I had, like, a time machine or a hell of an Ouija board. Listen, you're gonna be fine, man. You're, uh… capable.
Winston: Capable?!? Hey, who the hell do you think you're talking…
      Guerrero: Gotta go. (hangs up)

    • Hammond: You hold your gun like a cop. From what I understand, cops don't go around shooting people. (goes for his gun, Winston shoots)
      Winston: I'm retired.

    • Chance: Defuse the detonator!
      Winston: How?
Chance: You've done it before, like in Miami. Remember that thing? The cruise ship.
      Winston: That wasn't me!
      Chance: Are you sure?
Winston: What do you mean, am I sure? It wasn't me! I wasn't there. It was probably Guerrero.
Chance: What about that thing in Detroit?
Winston: Oh, yeah, that was close. Also Guerrero!

    • Winston: Let me get this straight. You got a ring that opens a very expensive book that we don't have. So in other words, it's just gonna be another piece of junk gathering dust on your shelf.
Chance: Maybe. Maybe there's something else out there that it opens.
Winston: Oh, that's a hell of a plan. Hold on a second. Yeah, maybe it unlocks next month's electric bill. You know, maybe a car note, or maybe the mortgage to this damn place, you know?

  • Allusions

    • Gray: See, the Anti-Monitor wants to destroy all the Earths in the Multiverse, right?

The comic books (or rather their content) Gray and the others discuss in the library are part of the 12-issue Crisis on Infinite Earths (1985-1986) maxi-series, which DC used to remove the concept of a Multiverse from the DC Universe. This involved the deaths of superheroes such as Supergirl and The Flash. The Flash incarnation Gray is talking about is the Barry Allen character. He was resurrected in the comics a few months before this episode premiered, at the hands of writer Geoff Johns.
