Based on the Pilot episode for this series, which I absolutely hated, I didn't even imagine that any subsequent episodes would be worth watching.

But it was an HBO kind of evening, and so I stayed tuned. And so I was pleasantly surprised. Pleasantly, mind you. Not giddily, "OMG I can never miss an episode of this series" kind of surprised, but enough that I'll probably tune in now and then.

Unlike the Pilot, which was a totally self absorbed, pathetic downer, this installation was a more light-hearted look at the life ahead of you when the only thing you have going for you is great sausage...without necessarily the skills to...um..."cook" with it!

"Lenore" was a hoot. A to-the-point gal with no use for men except...well...to use them. A nice change of TV plot lines, I must say!

"Hung" is not a keeper, and its only one decent episode out of two, but its batting a...um...LIMP 500 anyway.

i guess this is an improvement from their Pilot episode which I hated. there was nothing really funny about it. plus the cast is absolutely horrible. except for Thomas Jane and his Pimp, they're basically the only two characters bearable to watch. the rest of the cast, his Kids, his ex wife, the principal, etc. it feels like a low budget movie in 1989. nice intro though, Thomas removing his suit and jumping into the lake. makes with a perfect Harmony about the show. I also loved the ending in this episode, "I hate my job, let's make a million dollars." love it.
  • *** Spoiler-free *** Entertaining but not inspiring ; good performers and characters ; short format but intriguing story

This second episode wasn't as interesting as the first one. It was still entertaining but not as funny even it should make you laugh enough. But what I really missed were the sad and smart elements of the pilot that allowed us to relate to the characters. In fact it mostly focused on the pimp arc and not really how the protagonist is going to get things back right on track. So I really hope it won't become as superficial as shows like Weeds and Californication. Moreover as it not even lasted a half hour I worry that the episodes duration won't allow the writers to properly cover essential topics like character development.

But even if I was slightly disappointed by it I can only recommend it because I think the show has potential. The acting is good and even Tanya grew on me. There's also something intriguing going on with the mum and their children. In fact they're so ugly that they reminded me of the King in the film Dragon Heart. I also enjoyed how the plot was reverse designed because it's often surprising to know the end first. All the new characters revolving around Ray should also bring up some spice to his story even if I really hope it won't make him less authentic.

After the inception of their idea to start a business Tanya and Ray begin to hit up their clientelle firstly by Tanya reconnecting with a woman who used to work as a temp at her current job and is now a life coach who could be a gateway to a lot of rich lonely women named Lenore. While she tries to woo her Ray faces the principal for his less than appropriate speech given to his kids as inspiration in the last episode and Jessica has trouble connecting with Damon and Darby who incidentally look nothing like Ray or Jessica for the record, weird?
