After the success of the two-hour movie "Hunter: Return to Justice" (2002), NBC brought "Hunter" back to TV after a 12-year hiatus. The original "Hunter" aired from 1984 to 1991. Original stars Fred Dryer and Stepfanie Kramer returned as Rick Hunter and Dee Dee McCall for this updated version of "Hunter," the entertaining cop series that followed the story of a detective who bristled at authority within the Los Angeles Police Department, used a brash style to bring criminals to justice and tried to escape from the mob background of his family.

In "Hunter: Return to Justice" (2002) and "Hunter: Back in Force" (2003), Hunter relocated from Los Angeles to San Diego, where he meets up with his old partner, Dee Dee McCall. Eventually, the pair become partners again but this time as members of the San Diego Police Department. "Hunter (2003)" continues their story in San Diego as they chase criminals and even fight the military.

Unfortunately NBC did not attract as many viewers to the Saturday night time slot as they had hoped for and the new "Hunter" series was cancelled after just a few episodes.moreless
