  • This episode was great but somewhat lower in humour and intensity than others in the series.

The story was interesting and as usual, almost believable. The details of the con that the Hustle team used to prove the Royal scoop were well developed although it was a bit too easy to get into Buckingham Palace. Kenneth Cranham was superb as the editor(Frances Owen) and Paul Kaye was decent as the obnoxious reporter(Millen). The twist at the end with the Sunday Express was a nice touch as was Martin Townsend playing himself as the editor. There was less humour in this episode than previous ones and there was less intensity so the action was not as riveting.moreless

  • Brilliant!! Hustle at its best!

This is one of those episodes that, I think, Hustle was designed for. A wonderfully inventive story driven by a witty script, capped with some great performances (Cranham and Kaye are superb) marks this episode as a series highlight so far.

Marc Warren just gets better and better as Danny Blue and adds understated comic punctuations to what is now a smooth running ensemble piece.

The more I watch this show, the more I am reminded of The Avengers.

Like The Avengers, Hustle can be absurd, surreal and stretch credibility beyond breaking point and yet remain fresh, funny, ingenious and cracking entertainment. This episode had all that. It is a delicate balance and you can understand why the odd episode misses the mark.

Series 3 has been a tad patchy in parts but episodes like this one show there is still some gas in the tank.moreless
