In the year 22 H. C. (Holy Century), Humans are an endangered species, and Shinjuku is now a town populated with demons, goblins and monsters. Crime runs rampant, and so together with the national police force, private police forces have been founded to maintain public peace and order. Hyper Police is a Japanese animation TV series, based on a manga by the artist MEE. It's an anthropomorphic comedy which follows the adventures of Natsuki Sasahara, a half-human/half-catbeast bounty hunter with magical powers. Pictured alongside Natsuki is Sakura, a Kyubi Fox (nine-tailed magical fox-creature), who joins Natsuki in hunting criminals, but plots to steal her powers...moreless

  • A pleasant surprise. Perhaps a tribute to Nuku Nuku.

When I first watched Slayers in December 2003, I decided that was the best anime I'd ever seen. 3 months later I saw Nuku Nuku and decided that was not just the best I'd ever seen but almost certainly the best I ever would. But I'd classify this as an even even match with that. Very poignant. At the end, it just left me longing for more. And then I looked it up and saw that it was only one season, in 1997. Sigh. I can't imagine what happened. But let's hand it to the catgirls. I guess that's the key to greatness, for anime at least. Along with genius writing, of course, because this certainly has both in common with Nuku Nuku. This series is amazing. It is the only episodic show I've ever seen where I can honestly say that each episode is better than the one that came before it. It just gets better and better all the way through. At the beginning, I wasn't particularly enthusiastic, I'll admit. Halfway through, it was already really good. And then it somehow just managed to continue its trend all the way through. When I was 3 quarters into it I thought it had peaked. I didn't think it was possible, but it did it. The main character was also a pleasant surprise. I thought Natsuke was going to just be a dumb airhead, another ditz in a long line of ditzes, where the creators just try to accomplish nothing more than draw an arousing cartoon and the whole show is nothing more than an excuse to get her to strike various poses, and indeed she seemed to act that way. At first. But her character quickly grows more complicated, her seemingly simplistic motivations reveal greater depth and intellect as the series progresses, and we get deep inside her head before long. You'll just fall in love with her by the end. Technically, this series is kind of the Japanese equivalent of Savage Dragon. If you're an old gomer like me and used to watch that a decade or so ago on USA network, along with Wing Commander and Street Fighter and a few others. It's a city with humans in the not-too-distant future and thrown in among the humans are gods and monsters, whose origins should be taken in stride at first. It's eventually revealed where they all came from, and roughly when too, if you pay careful attention. Watch for a cameo of Sasame from Tenchi Muyo, 10 minutes into episode 16. Not sure why they snuck her in there, but I imagine it is remotely possible that the same people who did one series were at least part of the other. I have to admit, Sakura sure reminds me of Ryoko. A much stronger resemblance makes me wonder if Natsuke is in part a tribute to Nuku Nuku. Even more so, since Nuku Nuku's actual name was Atsuko Natsume, the last name is almost the same as Natsuke's first. Maybe it's just the lack of variety of traditional Japanese names, but the characters are virtually identical in personality traits, e.g. a little naive, exceedingly moral and generous though they get treated like dirt by most of the people around them, who unreasonably assume the worst of them, and they both seem at first to just be flibbertygibbets but turn out to be much more complicated. But if you like one series (and how could you not - they are by far the two best, in my opinion), I guess you'll probably like the other. Just watch it, dagnammit. And while you're at it, generate a petition to put in back into production! For some reason, the absolute best things always seem to die after one season, and this is no exception.moreless
  • A pretty good animated cop show.

A pretty good animated cop show. If this is a show that you do not normally watch and you are sitting at home with nothing to do, you are going to wish you had it on tape. Having it "on tape" had become the generic term for recorded programs. Today you are more likely to have the show on Tivo or DVR than VHS, or god forbid Beta!! It is kind of like how a lot of people still call CD's "records" or "albums." Anyway, back to the show. This is the type of show that is really pretty good if you would just give it a chance. So on those cold, lonely, rainy days, pop in your tape or DVR or whatever if you were smart enough to tape it. If not, check to see if it is on as a re-run. After all, as they say, if you have never seen it, it is new to you.moreless
  • this is a greatist comedy anime show that I've ever seen!

    9.1
    "Superb"
What I like about this show, not the passion, drama, sci-fi, and police force, its the humor in this series. I'm always a furry anime fan! I love this half humun / half cat character, she may be an airhead, but she full of good hearted person.

I give this show 9.1 out of 10!
